CHAPTER THREE
~~~
The two Latina women were right to put their faith in Esme's words as within minutes of meeting some of the vampires who had gathered as witnesses, they were laughing like old friends. Esme and Carlisle first re-introduced them to the Denali coven, who remembered the spirited women easily and embraced them as old friends. They proceeded then to meet members of the Irish Coven, Amazon Coven, and the Egyptian Coven. The Irish were surprisingly quiet at the time of their greeting but Luciana muttered her assurances that they would be wild as the days to the Volturi's arrival got closer. The Latina women bonded with the Amazonian women instantly, surprising everyone when Zafrina and Senna took easily to the girls and spoke with them openly in their broken English. However, while the other witnesses appeared surprised when the four girls easily got along, Carlisle seemed to have predicted their friendship. The Amazon may have a wild appearance but they were strong-willed and possessed good hearts, much like the two Latina's who were often feared.
Yet, no one could have predicted the blooming friendship between Dalila and Benjamin, from the Egyptian Coven. After they had been introduced the duo easily began to converse and within the following minutes, it appeared that the pair had already become acquainted. Even Benjamin's mate, Tia began a conversation with the immortal woman after they met. The other witnesses, three nomadic vampires, were all quiet but polite to the two women creating an easy atmosphere for the rest of the day.
As the sky began to darken the two immortals stood side by side looking out at the landscape before them. The women were quiet as they stood watching the trees sway, both having questions that had been eating away at them. After meeting the child, the women were kept occupied with introductions but after the initial 'getting to know you' they were left to themselves as the covens congregated together. Even after meeting the witnesses they spent time catching up with Emmett and Rosalie, but the couple had long since retired together leaving the women with their thoughts.
"Something is troubling you, what is it?" A voice asked from behind them. The two women turned to face the source of the voice being met with the face of Edward. He had returned not long ago, after spending time at his cottage with his wife and daughter, in order to give Bella and their daughter some time together.
Luciana took the lead in confronting their thoughts as she spoke, "Yes, something is troubling us. You have told us the full story now, with all the details pertaining to those wolves outside as well as what you know of the Volturi's arrival. However, no one had told us where a certain pixie-haired woman and Southern charmer are?"
Edward stilled his mind flashing back to when Sam came and passed on the note of Alice and Jasper's departure. The bronze haired immortal ran his slender fingers through his hair before he began to explain, "They have left us, on an agenda we are not aware of but Alice seemed to think they could find some important help somewhere out there. I am not sure what they are searching for, only that they sent the Amazon's our way meaning they were in South America at some point."
Neither woman spoke as they processed Edward's confession. For all the years the women had known the Cullen's and watched the coven grow, they never expected Jasper nor Alice to leave the family in a time of need. Therefore, the only conclusion must be that they knew someone or something that would help their family be saved from the Volturi's accusations. Alice and Jasper were loyal beings and cared for their coven immensely, making their disappearance all the more painful. All the sudden, Carlisle and Esme's sorrow at their earlier questions became clear and guilt crept through the women's souls.
"Wow, thank you, Edward, for telling us. I am sure they are safe and searching for some way to clear your families name," Dalila assured her friend stepping forward to rub the man's arm as a source of comfort. Luciana nodded her head in agreement, "You know Alice when she sets her mind to something she goes after it with everything she has."
Edward chuckled softly, "Yes, I know but their absence has taken a toll on us all, especially Carlisle and Rose."
The sisters nodded their heads in understanding. Carlisle as the leader and patriarch was bound to feel a gap at two of his children missing with practically no explanation. Luciana and Dalila were sure the man was worrying himself sick over his children's safety. Rose also was bound to feel empty as Alice was her first sister and a true friend. Even if the short pixie like woman could annoy the blonde beauty, they were sisters and been by each other's side for many important moments in their immortal lives.
"You should go home, be with your family. We have time to catch up later," Dalila stated flashing a smile to the Cullen man. Edward slowly nodded his head giving them both a grateful smile. They embraced each other quickly before he departed into the night towards his own home. The two Latina's moved back to their positions, their hands intertwining as they stared out at the night sky pondering what was to come.
The following days brought two more nomads to the group of witnesses, Peter and Charlotte. They also had a hostile encounter with Alistair, who pushed the women's buttons by mentioning their past, which was a secret to everyone else besides the main Cullen clan. Over those few days, Dalila and Luciana re-connected with the Denali coven and listened to their sorrow over Irina's mistake. The situation was truly sad as the immortal woman had clearly relied on what she saw instead of making the effort to approach her relatives and ask about the heritage of the child. Yet, she made a mistake that was easy to make if you judged young Renesmee on just her appearance and enhancements. However, her mistake would potentially mean the end of many lives.
The two sisters also learned about the Cullen's neighbors, the Quileute shape-shifters. The two women were intrigued by the human's gifts to shift into a spirit warrior. They respected the legends of the Native tribe and therefore, decided to ignore the scent and be polite towards the wolves, unlike many of the immortals who kept their distance.
The two women actively aided Esme in preparing food for the young shape-shifters, after all, Dalila was a chef and cooking her art. At first, the wolves were hesitant and backed away from the women when they approached to deliver the food. However, with Esme's assurances that the women meant no ill will, they accepted the dinner and were eagerly surprised. Since then, the wolves slowly began to come around to the two Latina's.
Seth was the first to open up to the women, easily asking them questions about their heritage and accents. Once he learned where they originated he was eager to ask if they could help him with his Spanish homework, something the two women agreed too. Something about the young spirited boy made the women relaxed and happy, perhaps it was the presence of a teenager who was so opened minded that made them care for him. Needless to say, Seth had stolen a piece of the women's hearts and brought a light to them in the dark days that lay ahead.
However, Seth's sister Leah was a different case. The female kept her distance from both Luciana and Dalila for the first two days after their arrival but on the third day, Luciana had enough. The Spanish native snapped at the girl for being so rude to them when they were being kind despite their species bad blood. Leah replied that they were strangers to her only and had no reason to trust them. To which, Dalila intervened and commented that Leah would not even allow herself to open up to the idea of friendship with the immortal women and that she was being bitter towards them without knowing them. Leah then proceeded to storm off into the woods and shifted to get away. Yet, later that night when the women brought out dinner Leah thanked them for the food, the first step to becoming cordial. Over the next two days, Leah had been polite two the two immortal women and even revealed little facts about herself to them such as the fact that she was the first female shape-shifter. (Which led to Luciana hollering out "Damn mamí you're a legend" while Dalila told Leah to "Take pride in making history and embrace her badass self").
All of this led to the present moment, where Luciana and Dalila stood watching as Elezar revealed the gift Bella possessed. Clearly, none of the Cullen's had realized the gift Bella had possessed even in her human years but it made sense. Isabella Swan was different than many people leading to her being different than most immortals who possessed the defensive gift of a shield.
Amazement washed over the Latina's as they followed behind Carlisle and watched Kate grasp Bella's hand sending an electric shock through her fingers and to Bella's skin. Yet, the newborn immortal did not react clearly not feeling the intense voltage. The two soul sisters exchanged a glance their eyes revealing their impressed thoughts, after all, anyone who could withstand Kate's shockingly painful gift must also possess a strong gift.
"Oh yeah, she's a shield alright that should've put her on her ass," Kate stated bluntly glancing at the group forming around them. The two women turned to the side when the Revolutionary man to their left spoke out, "Or your voltage has been exaggerated."
Dalila scoffed while Luciana rolled her eyes, leave it to a man to undermine a women's strength. The taller of the duo turned to her sister speaking in her native language, "Can you believe this man?"
Dalila shook her head, "Dumbass, he's gonna get himself knocked on his ass."
The two women watched pleased as Kate challenged Garrett's claim with a sly voice, "Maybe it only works on the weak." The Denali woman easily played against the man's ego and with a wiggle of her fingers, Garrett was stepping forward to touch her palm.
Carlisle, the ever so gentle, attempted to warn Garrett leading to Luciana elbowing his side. The blonde man glanced towards the Spanish woman, "Let him learn for himself to never underestimate a woman."
Within milliseconds of Garrett pressing his finger to Kate's palm, the man was on his knees in pain. The smirks on Carmen and Tanya's faces mirrored the thrilled upturned grins on the two women on the opposite side of Carlisle. The coven sisters watched as a lovesick grin crossed Garrett's face as he gazed up at Kate, "You are an amazing woman."
"No shit," Luciana called out teasingly smirking when Kate tossed her a wink in return. Dalila chuckled under her breath before watching as the group began to tell Bella about her new-found gift. A shield would benefit them greatly in the upcoming meeting with the Volturi, especially a mental shield considering many of the strongest guards gifts were mental gifts and not physical. Once the shock wore off, Garrett returned to a standing position before striking up a conversation with Kate leading to Tanya chiming in every once in a while.
"Does something feel.. off to you?" Dalila asked Luciana their native language flowing across her tongue. Her amber eyes flickered to gaze deep into the trees as her body thrummed with an odd edge. Luciana's dark gold eyes scanned the surrounding land in silence, listening for anything, "Yes, something's out there."
Dalila's hand slid to intertwine with Luciana's both woman becoming still their eyes the only sign of movement. The talk of the immortals around them began to fade as the women tuned into their senses, waiting for a trigger. Carlisle was the first to notice the stilling of the sisters causing him to pause and turn to them. He knew better than to snap them out of their trance but fear coiled deep inside him at what caused them to become statues. From past experiences, he knew how in tune with their surroundings the Latina women were and if anything were off for miles around them, they could tell within seconds.
A howl sounded through the air right as the sister moved into action. Dalila spun on her heel to face the group of immortals, "Uninvited guests are coming."
"And I have a pretty good fucking clue who it is," Luciana snarled before darting off with Dalila hot on her heels. Both women could tell who was approaching from the unique scents but they had not come in contact with the immortals for many years. The pounding of heels behind them signaled that the Cullens and Denalis were following them. Snarling was loud in their ears as the two women slowed their pace knowing they were close. As patriarch, Carlisle took the lead as he emerged from the trees with his family in tow.
Luciana and Dalila stopped in their tracks remaining hidden behind the trees as they waited for their suspicions to be confirmed. Yet, by the whistling and derogatory name calling towards the shape-shifters, the coven sisters truly did not need to hear the unknown vampires speak to confirm who had entered the Olympic territory. As Carlisle called out the Romanian vampires names, Luciana could feel her frozen blood boil. Dalila's eyes snapped to her sister's as she moved quickly to pressLuciana's taller frame against the tree.
"Stop, you can not go after them," Dalila spoke rapidly in a hushed tone using their native tongue as a way to get through to her angered friend. Luciana's lips turned upwards into a silent snarl as her hands clawed at the wooden bark of the tree. All she wanted to do was fight and hurt the two men who had caused pain to those she loved.
"Think rationally. They could be here to witness and the more witnesses the more chance to save Renesmee," At the mention of the hybrid child's name, Luciana stilled. Her anger faded as she snapped out of her trance of hatred. After all, Vladimir and Stefan did what she would have done if someone killed her family. However, that did not mean she forgave them for what they did to people she once cared for.
The two women shared a glance, understanding each other's views before they were appearing from the forest. Their eyes instantly met the red ones of the new arrivals causing their shoulders to roll back as they stood tall. The sisters moved to stand beside the three Denali's as they gazed up at the Romanians who finished their rant on wanting to fight the Volturi. Hisses slipped through their pale lips as they saw the Latina women, "You stare at us with disgust but let the Volturi sluts walk among you."
"Why don't I show you what this slut can do, bastardo?" Luciana snarled loudly moving to step closer to the two men. Dalila's hand caught her wrist pulling her back to remain at her side. Her eyes were lit with fire as she sent her friend a look to be civil. After a moment of harsh silence, Dalila turned to meet Vladimir's gaze, "We do not associate with the Volturi, they have no hold over us. We are here to support an innocent family from being wrongfully tried."
The two ancient immortals shared a look with each other, amused at the two sisters who they had met long before today. At one time, they pitied the girls for their unfortunate situation but that pity turned to anger when they stopped fighting against those who controlled them. If only the men knew that the women's compliance was to bide their time and gain the trust of those who enslaved them.
"Always the diplomatic one, Dalila," Stefan called out nodding his head to the woman as a signal of peace. However, their words had already caused concern to flare inside the young mother who now watched them cautiously. It was clear that Isabella was confused especially when her husband remained calm as if the words the Romanians had spoke held no effect on him.
"Shame. Aro's witnesses will be so disappointed. They enjoy a good fight," Stefan called out after Carlisle assured them that their intention was to not fight the Volturi. Luciana and Dalila's bodies tensed up at the mention of the leader of the Volturi. Their eyes flickered to each other as worry filled their beings because they knew how determined Aro could be when he wanted something done.
Elezar seemed to note the same phrase as he stepped towards Carlisle, the sisters doing the same, "Aro's witnesses?" Carlisle turned to his life-long friend's, concern flashing across his features as the four knew better than most what the Volturi gathering witnesses could lead to. Dalila placed a hand on the blonde father's shoulders to provide a comforting touch while Luciana did the same to Elezar who placed his hand over hers.
"Aww, still hoping they'll listen?" Vladimir inquired tauntingly. If vampires could be killed, the white-haired Romanian would be twenty feet under due to the glare the Latina sisters gave him.
