8: Misunderstanding

There is a big problem. With Fate's threat leering over their shoulders, Genesis and Encryption are unable to explain the balance or even utter her name. Genesis can't speak of the limits to his creation. He can't answer when monsters ask why he creates worlds that suffer with endless resets or worlds that are never peaceful. Encryption's role is even harder to understand. He appears to be reasonless destruction that Genesis won't or can't stop. As worlds begin to live for decades, a big problem becomes apparent.

Encryption, known as Trojan in this Multiverse, does not enjoy his job. He only does it because so many more would suffer if he didn't. Trojan tries to ignore the screams as he pulls more string from the white lines running down both of his cheeks. Killing all these monsters kills off a little bit of himself each time. Genesis, now Acrylic, still tries to remain positive in the face of the growing bitterness that fills them both. Trojan finds himself quietly cursing Fate with every breath when the other god is not near.

Sunk deep into a quiet killing calm to avoid the screams, Trojan is oblivious to the attack until it buries deep into his shoulder. Surprised, Trojan briefly gasps in pain. He whirls around and tears the bone attack out of his shoulder as he evaluates the attacker. A few monsters usually put up a fight when Trojan has to destroy their world. What surprises him is that his attacker is clearly from a different AU. Two Sanses, one with with his arm still raised, are glaring at Trojan with hateful looks. The destroyer is taken aback by their presence.

"Stop Destroyer!" the one in orange shouts, "We won't let you kill these monsters!"

"Leave this AU right now! You're outnumbered. You won't win this fight," the other adds. They wear a silver and green outfit with armored joints.

Trojan doesn't respond right away. While he does dimly recognize these two monsters, and that they're both skilled in combat, Trojan feels no doubt that he could kill the both of them without much of a struggle. Trojan and Acrylic have been sparing against one another for a half a century now. Most of these AUs are lucky to last two years. Being born with combat skills doesn't quite measure up to real experience. Even though he could end these two monsters, their deaths are not required for the balance. Trojan doesn't want to take extra lives. Doing so would also make Acrylic sad.

"I have to destroy worlds," Trojan says with a hint of anger. "There is no option for me to stop." This explanation is the closest Trojan will ever get to explaining his role with Fate's threats. Why can't anyone understand?

The skeleton wearing orange growls at the response and launches and attack at Trojan. The bone attacks manifest with bird-like spearheads. Trojan smoothly dodges just in time to jerk away from the other monster's Gaster Blaster. This is ridiculous. Beginning to get worked up, Trojan pulls strings away from his eyes. Trojan already has to deal with being one of Fate's playthings. He's not willing to take shit from anyone else. The long years have started to wear away at the gentle and kind monster Trojan used to be. He's growing colder and more apathetic. These two lesser monsters should never have picked a fight with him. Before Trojan can truly retaliate, bars made of the blackest ink shoot from the ground and separate the two sides of the fight.

"Woah woah woah! Wait!" Dropping down from who-knows-where, the Creator lands down right next to Trojan and grabs onto the other's arms. "What is happening?" Acrylic asks anxiously. He searches Trojan's face for a moment before addressing the other monsters. "Sunburst? Pine? You guys aren't- you're not...... supposed to be here."

"What do you mean!?" Sunbursts, the monster in orange, shouts. "Trojan is killing all these people!"

"And it's not just here," Pine chimes in. "He's been killing off whole AUs. Are you going to stop him, Acrylic?"

"Huh?" Acrylic asks in confusion. He finally lets go of Trojan and lets the wall of ink drop. Acrylic is genuinely caught off guard. With what he knows, it's inconceivable that someone would reject the other half of the balance. Everything will die if Trojan doesn't destroy a few. Both gods have seen it happen over and over again.

"They don't understand," Trojan huffs quietly.

"Trojan's job is just as important as mine," Acrylic finally splutters out. He has to be careful not to say anything too close to the truth.

Sunburst and Pine both get strange looks on their faces, but it's Sunburst that says "Just because Trojan is the only other god doesn't mean he's a good guy. Whatever he tells you is probably a lie."

Acrylic just gapes in complete shock at that response. He jumps when Trojan first grabs him by the upper arm. "We're leaving," Trojans says in tense, clipped words. Sunburst and Pine protest as Trojan practically drags Acrylic through a portal. The two arrive in the Antivoid and spend a few minutes in silence.

"They think I'm the bad guy...." Trojan says sadly, anger fading.

"That's not true!" Acrylic protests, "Sunburst and Pine are both a little impulsive. I'm sure we can get them to understand."

"It can't be just them. If a few monsters are bold enough to attack me, there's probably a dozen more with the same view of me. How am I supposed to fix that when someone's world will always be next on the shopping block?"

"............. We'll throw a party."

"What!?"
