Chapter 4

Tamao awoke to a door creaking open. He opened his eyes, and tiredly looked at Aquarius, who was standing by the cage door. "Morning, Tammy. I promise we'll see each other again. I'll be the strongest sylveon there is, and I'll find you! We can be one big family, all happy and cares for each other!" Aquarius stated, rather quietly.

This sounded like a goodbye, which worried Tamao. "Wait, you're leaving now? Why!?" He asked, alarmed. "Don't you remember the events from yesterday...?" Aquarius asked. Tamao looked confused. He knew what happened. "We played, and trained, and- I don't wanna remember the other bit." Tamao admitted.

Aquarius hummed, the tapping of human paws echoed down the corridor, coming closer and closer. "Well, we'll see each other again, alright? I'll be there to protect you, that's what older sisters are for!" Aquarius smiled. Tamao smiled back. Older sister. He liked that.

Tamao knew they weren't related by blood, but he liked having someone to call his older sister.

"I'll always be there for you, and I'll never let you get hurt as long as I can stop it. Just promise me that you'll become strong too. Okay?" Aquarius stated as the human opened the cage door and grabbed her.

As they started walking off, Tamao started to process what was said. "I promise!" He shouted. Tamao didn't know if Aquarius heard him, but he could hope.

However, Tamao was now alone. Completely and utterly alone.  No one else was around him to tell him stories, or to play. No one else could tell him if the food was safe to eat, and no one else could tell him random facts.

No one. No one would come.

Tamao slunk over to the vent and curled up. The humans took away his only friend, his sister! Tamao started to feel mad. How could they after all? Why would they?

Anger boiled in Tamao as he lashed out on the wall. Not a scratch was made, yet Tamao felt as though he did some form of damage to it, or maybe he was imagining it.

Tamao sighed as he felt his anger leave him. Sadness engulfed him though, as he kept thinking about when the next time he would have a friend.

He stood up and walked over to the door, watching as there was an occasional scientist walk by. Even some Pokémon, every-so-often. Tamao knew the scientists were bad, yet he had hope that one of the occasional Pokémon would help him, that they weren't bad.

However, the only Pokémon to walk past the glass was a shiny sylveon, one who was muzzled, and had a short leash connected to a collar. Tamao looked at the sylveon desperately, but when the sylveon looked towards the cage, it was clear that no matter how much the other Pokémon wanted to break Tamao out, he couldn't.

Tamao looked at the wall as he felt the deep blue eyes of the sylveon leave. It hurt Tamao knowing that no one could help him, but the eevee had hope that not every Pokémon was bad here, like Aquarius said.

Then again, maybe Tamao should listen to Aquarius, she is older, and does know more than Tamao did. The small eevee shook his head to free himself from more thoughts, and he crawled back into the corner and laid down.

Maybe Yuki would be here to tell him stories, or maybe some other Pokémon would break him out of the cage.

Tamao closed his eyes for a nap, to which, sleep came quickly, as though sleep wanted to take over Tamao.

--------

Tamao's dream consisted of a blank void. Not darkness, but it was bright. He looked around and didn't see anything other than the blinding light. Then, there was a figure in the distance, mostly white, but bits of red rested on their fur.

"Hello?" Tamao called out. He didn't get a response from the figure, but the figure seemingly nodded. Then, the world shifted. Trees like the one on the wall of Tamao's cage, and other Pokémon playing and having fun. Tamao smiled and tried running up to one of the Pokémon in the dream to play, but he was held back by some force.

A young farfetch'd, older than Tamao, was running in front of Tamao before stopping, seeming to notice him. "Help me! I'm- my family is sick! They- they have a fever and- and they won't stop coughing!" The farfetch'd pleaded. "I- I don't know if I can help." Tamao stated, scared. The farfetch'd seemed perplexed, and slammed his large leek into the ground, his amber eyes scanning the world for a moment.

"This isn't real, is it...?" The farfetch'd silently asked. Tamao shrugged, not sure if he should tell the panicking leek wielding Pokémon. "I can try helping you a bit more, what else is happening to them?" Tamao asked. "They've got a headache, and my ma is more worried than normal." He answered.

Tamao nodded. "Alright, I'll help you when I can!" Tamao smiled, trying to reassure the scared farfetch'd. The older Pokémon nodded, and smiled, but Tamao's dream was shifted away as a distant screech pierced Tamao's ears.

--------

Tamao shot up as he heard the screech. It didn't seem like it came from any Pokémon in the hallway he was staying in, and it sounded like it was scared.

He then heard the door creak open as it normally does, and the sound of steps entered the hallway.

Distant to near, the steps drew closer and closer, stopping at a few cages, opening them, and closing them.

'It must be feeding time.' Tamao thought. His prediction was correct as a scientist walked in front of his cage, opened it, placed the food, then walked away.

Tamao glared as the scientist walked off, then he stood up, walked over, and sniffed the food. It had a tang to it, and Tamao drew back. Was it drugged? Tamao didn't know, but he didn't trust it. He spilled the food and curled back up into his corner. He thought about his strange dream yet didn't think about it for too long.

Tamao just wanted to wake up from this nightmare. The nightmare of being separated from his only friend, his sister.
