Chapter 33: Colors Of Her Heart

"We should have come across with something by now." Poe fretted.

"I think we're heading north. We're too much in the north, we need to double back." Rose said.

It was true, they have been riding for three weeks, or so Rey believed, since leaving King's Landing. Still no inn or village came into view. And they feared they were getting far from Riverrun.

" Rey knows where we're going." Ben said. His voice was so confident, as if she had actually drawn the map of Westeros herself.

She has been guiding them for the last few days. The force was showing her the way forward. And, even though it seemed that they were riding aimlessly forward, she knew they were not.

And she knew Ben felt the same as her.

The sun has warmed their path all day, relieving them of the last rainy times.
They rode now through a dense forest, the path narrow. Leaves and branches were snapping at Rey's face, making her wince.

It was almost dusk when they camped in a clearing. Ben walked toward the middle where Finn, Rose and Poe sat. He couldn't see Rey. And his anxiety grew, for he had not seen her since they arrived here.

He could see that even though Finn and Rose invited him to sit with them, Poe's eyes still shot daggers at him. Almost three weeks of traveling together, yet no understanding came between them.

"Do you know where Rey is?" he asked.

"Maybe she wants some space. Alone." Poe shot back.

"She's gone to bring some water from the brook that flows farther." Rose ignored him.

"Thanks." he smiled, but then turned to Poe. And his voice matched the man's hateful glance. "I just needed to know she was safe!"

The was beginning to set, longing the shadows of the trees and throwing orange and gold rays, and soon enough darkness would engulf the forest. And he needed to know she was back safe.

He walked back to his tent and peered around. He could see no river, and hear no water flowing through the trees.
And his paces drove him away from their place, and deeper into the forest. Now he could hear it. A waterfall. It was small, judging by the sound of it, yet that was where Rey had to be.

He quickened his pace, looking down for any sign of water or traces.
Yet he stopped when the fall through which the jagged edges of the stones peaked came into view through the branches and leaves.

When he reached the pool, he found her clothes discarded on the shore. Her white shirt was soaked and put to dry, her leather tunic and pants and boots were placed over the belt with the sword, hiding it.

The water was clear, a light shade of blue. And now it deflected the last rays of sun, that painted it in nuances of gold and orange and pink.

And then he saw her wading through the water, her hair flowing around her shoulders. She was looking at the waterfall, standing with the back of her head to him.

He decided he would be off soon, to give her privacy. But he dearly loved to watch her bathed in those warm colors that matched her heart. She sent low ripples through the water as she moved her hands through it.

But he could see her turning and he wheeled around to go. His heart began racing, and he could feel his face sweat.

In his haste, he stepped on a branch, making it creak under his weight. And this time, he turned his head to see her do the same, surprise all over her face.

"I'm sorry." he blurted out. "I was going back, I just didn't know where you were."

But she didn't seem angry. Instead she smiled and swam toward the shore, stepping and standing up. The small waves she sent before her lapped against the shore, and as she stood to her feet it rippled around her waist. He averted his eyes at first, thinking she may be naked, but then realized she was wearing a light colored dress, that hid everything that needed cover.

"Stay with me." she said as she held out a hand for him. Drops were falling from her soaked hair, her skin was glistening in the sun that cast a golden light around her.

And he began fumbling at his tunic, throwing it down along with his sword, revealing the shirt underneath.
He jumped in the water after her, dressed as he was, and waded to her side. At first, the cold water prickled at his skin, but he didn't care a bit.

Instead he followed her to the middle of the pool. And she finally stopped and turned to face him.
Rey placed a hand on his chest. She reached up and caressed his wet face, his hair.

He slid an arm around her waist, the other hand cupping her face. She brought her face close to his, pressing her nose against his cheek. He closed his eyes and drank the feeling in, memorizing it piece by piece. Then he kissed her forehead, and moved to her wet hair.

As they broke apart, Rey splashed him in the face, letting out a loud laugh.

"Not fair!" he laughed as he squeezed his eyes and sent a wave of water over her head. But she was hard to stop.

Rey
Rey loved his laugh. And she wanted him to keep laughing. But Ben caught her arm as she aimed another splash at him, and spun her around in his arms, holding her from behind, his hand placed on her stomach, the other holding hers to his lips.

And she arched her head back on his shoulder, her nose nuzzling his jaw. He then passed to her forehead, and to her cheeks and nose and to her mouth, placing kisses on her skin.

But it seemed he was not resuming to that. His lips went down to her jaw, and along her neck, kissing her deeply as he heard her sigh and brush against him as if she were asking for more.

Yet his kisses subsided. And she was sad to let go yet. They waded together until they stood under the waterfall, her head rested under his chin, the cold flood falling over them.

It was late night when they realized they have been staying there for good.

"We should head back." Ben nudged her head. "The others will fret over us." and his eyes stopped to hers. Her eyes deflected the starshine above, sparkling with innocence.

She let her gaze drop to the water and she nodded sadly. "Yes."
They walked quietly out of the water. It was now fully dark, only the moon sent her silver thread on the dark waving surface.

Her soaked dress fell to her knees, and she shuddered at the touch of cold, hugging herself.
Ben took up his heavy cloak and hurried to her side, wrapping it around her as he rubbed her shoulders, time in which they shared on more kiss. When they broke apart he kissed the corner of her mouth one more time.

"Better?" he smiled.

"Better." She answered, looking into his eyes.

He retrieved their things and held them under one arm, with the other trying to keep Rey warm.

By the time they got to the camp, she was shivering wildly as she went to change her dress. Ben had offered to put it to dry for her, alongside with his own clothes.

When he was done, he slid inside their tent, where she was waiting for him, huddled under warm wool blankets.
He gave her an affectionate smile. She was still shivering, her face cold at touch.

"I'm here now." he said as he took her in his arms, hugging her to his chest and kissing her. She curled up to his side, seeking his warmth, her head buried in the crook of his neck.

He cradled her in his arms, pulling the blanket up to her chin, as if she were a child dependent on his protection.

Blowing out the candles, Ben rubbed her back and arms until he could feel the warmth seeping back into her, her chest rising slowly, a sign she was asleep.

/N: Okay, here I am, again! Long time, no update, yet I have been writing on my other book "A Song Of Light and Darkness" lately, since it has more succes.
It's not only that, but this one is ready written. And for me, it's a lot more exciting to write than to edit something I've already done :)
