Chapter 23: The Lost Prophecy

Author's note: I marked with "Ben" and "Rey" the sequences that are from their points of view. I wanted to write from both their perspectives, but without creating confusion.

When Rey woke up, and wanted to hug the pillow she rested her head on, she realized it was no pillow at all. Instead she nuzzled someone's hand and nestled her head in it even more.

But what happened next startled her a bit. A mop of dark wavy hair was resting on the edge of her bed and began to move. She squinted at Ben and rose her head to look at him.

He had stayed there for her, she realized as she saw him crouched on the ground. And suddenly a pang of guilt washed over her as she realized how uncomfortable he must have slept.

Rey squirmed closer to him and propped herself on one elbow. She smiled at him. She felt a urge to kiss him, as he sat there, still fast asleep. And as she thought how she wanted to touch him, to hold him, she found herself doing so.
She began to stroke his dark hair, and gasped when she felt how soft it was. She had never touched it before, and had always wondered how it would feel. Then she began to run her fingers through it, smoothing it back.
And she let her fingers move to his face. She brushed his cheeks with her knuckles, then his forehead but she stopped at his lips. One night she had even dreamed of him kissing her. It had felt so real, so good, yet it still frightened her.

She smiled at him, a smile full of love, as her fingers cupped his face. She bent over and her placed her lips on his hair. She kissed him deeply. She had never done that before, and it just seemed so strange. Yet she let her face nudge the softness of his black locks.

Ben
Ben could hardly wake up. He felt the need to stretch his legs, his arms, his back. Yet he forgot about everything when he felt a gentle hand cradling his head and brushing his cheek with gentle moves. He did not open his eyes, not yet. He wanted to stay there as much as he could. For he knew whose warm loving hand it was. He nuzzled it and nestled his head in it. If he ever wanted to sleep somewhere, that was in her arms.

And he could feel a soft whisper of a laugh so that's when he knew he couldn't resist anymore without seeing her face.

He smiled first and then slowly opened his eyes.

And there she was, his precious Rey, her warm smile. Her hair fell in waves only a little bit past her shoulders, cupping her face, a few hairs astray across her forehead.

He reached out to touch her face, and brushed her hair out of it. Then he ran his fingers through the chestnut waves. Like always, her hair smelled of roses, and it was so soft at the touch...

Then he drew it back, and closed his eyes as he enjoyed her hand caressing his cheek.
He nuzzled his head in ths palm of her hand and placed soft kisses inside it. He heard her sigh with pleasure.

Rey
Rey brought her head to rest on his, his soft hair brushing against her face. But as she closed her eyes, three knocks at the door jerked her head up.

Ben rose his head sleepily, and stood up.

"Stay here," he said as she made to go after him. "I'm going to see what they want."

Ben
He opened the door ajar and poked his head out through the small creak. And he saw that there was his father.

"We meet in the council room after an hour."

   "Sure." Ben answered curtly.

"What happened? Do you not need to discuss the issues that concern your own person?" his father's voice was scolding.

"Of course I need. But I don't think Rey..."

"Spare me! Your presence is asked and you'll come along." he turned to go, but stopped suddenly, as of he had remembered something important. Just before Ben could close the door, he turned on his heels to face his son. "And bring her with you. By the way, where is she?"

"Oh, she's still sleeping. And I did not want to disturb her."

But his father only made his way forward as if to enter their room. Ben put an arm in front of him and stopped him.

"Respect her privacy, Father." he said, in a rather commanding tone. And he did not mean it.

And with that he left, and Ben returned to Rey. She was already up, coming toward him.

"It was your father, I know. But what did he want?" she said as she folded her arms against her chest.

"We need to attend a meeting." he said and his eyes dropped to the ground.

Rey
Rey could tell that something was wrong. There was something bothering him, after he spoke with his father.

She reached out and placed her hand on his cheek. A gesture of vulnerability, of trust. And she could feel her fingers tremble slightly as they were near his face because there still was that feeling, that unknown feeling she had every time she wanted to touch him, every time she thought about his kisses.

But he placed his hand over hers, nuzzling it.

"What's wrong?" she asked him, tilting her head.

   "It's nothing. I'm fine."

"No, I can tell it's not." She said as she took a step toward him. "Please tell me. You can tell me anything, you know that." She insisted, almost pleaded.

"I'm just wondering who could betray us."

She knew he was worried about that. She was worried too. Yet she knew there was something else, something he was hiding from her. And she drew back as she took her hand off his face.

"Rey, you'll understand. Please. We better hurry. The sooner we are done with that, the better."

She threw him a puzzled look. Then she walked to her bathroom.

For today, she chose a light blue dress, long sleeved. The V cut neckline was embroidered with a fine thread, a slightly darker shade than the dress. And her hand aids helped lace her wide golden belt across her waist.

She joined Ben outside, and slid her arm around his. She realized that all around, a silence hung in the air. Everyone she saw, threw them glances, and they were speaking in low voiees, probably about the last night's events. She knew there were not many people who had seen, but the word spread fast enough.

"Many of them still see me as a murderous traitor." Ben realized.

When she heard that, Rey turned to him. "It doesn't matter. We'll prove you are not what they think you are." She said as she looked deep into his eyes. "We know the truth. I do."

As they entered the room and realized almost everybody was there, they took their seats and waited for the queen to give the command.

"What we've heard last night, it's outrageous!" Lord Westerling spoke first. He was not there when the incident took place, but knew well what happened. "I told you we need not trust him!" he looked over at Ben.

Rey noticed him starting to stand up, but placed a hand on his and took up the word. "Then why would he still have defended me? I saw what I saw. And it was definitely not treason. Not from him." She said as her head snapped to lord Tyrell.

"Are you accusing me, wench?" he snapped at her. "Remember who you are! Remember your place! "

"Speak to your next queen with more respect!" Ben said.

"Who else was Snoke's most loyal dog?" Lord Tyrell asked ironically.

"From what I saw last night, I can't say he betrayed us." The Grand Maester spoke. "It's quite clear for me that it has not been him. Then, it must have only been someone else within these walls. I believe the boy is telling the truth."

Ben nodded and smiled at him to thank him.

"They said they wanted him, to make him pay for leaving them." Rey spoke in a clear voice. "It is not him who betrayed us."

"It's clear we have a traitor among us." Leia spoke. "And we have to be careful."

But the maester slammed his fist on the hard table and spoke again. "It must be someone who has allied Snoke lately. Someone important who has something to gain from that."

And Rey could see that Mace Tyrell had let his eyes down.

"But we know nothing for sure yet." Han said. "What matters more now, is find out what happened to Lord Commander Skywalker, whether he's still alive or not."

"And why did they want so much to know that. What does he have to hide?" Kevan Lannister spoke.

And Rey noticed that Leia did not speak much. She had something on her heart she would not say.

"We will organize a patrol to go and look for him in the North and even beyond the wall." She said at last. "We need to find out if he knows something."

"Maybe he knows about a secret army there in the north. Maybe he has gone to ask them help us against Snoke. He knows we have no chance." Lord Westerling said

"I don't know how to say, but I don't know if we'll be saved miraculously. The black brothers have never joined the wars within the seven kingdoms." lord Tyrell said.

"If it's not just a mith, there's still something that could save us, I know it. Something more powerful than any army." Leia said as if she were in a trance.

"Mother!" Ben said as he hurried to her side when he saw her like that. He knelt at the foot of her chair and placed a hand on her arm.

"Mother, what's wrong?" he asked desperately as he saw she didn't respond him, didn't even look at him.

Her eyes seemed fixed on a straight spot forward, lost in the void. She seemed lost in another world, in a dream.

Rey sat up and hurried to her side, as Ben yelled" Mother " once again. She could feel his voice was thick with pain, and worry.

He placed a gentle hand on her face." Mother, I'm here. Please, answer me."

And finally her view cleared and she moved her head to meet her son's.

"The meeting is over!" Han announced as he and Ben helped Leia from her chair.

Rey could see that Leia had been shaken. Something'd happened then. Has she dreamed, has she had something like, a disease? She was not sure what it could have been.

The maester was fussing over her, but he kept telling them it was nothing. And Leia was saying the same.

"It does not have to do with my health." She kept telling them. "I'm perfectly fine." and she turned around toward them. "But I need a word with my son. Only him." she said as she looked apologetically at Rey.

But she understood. She knew Leia was his mother, and she needed some words with Ben, and him alone.

Ben
Before Ben followed her, he turned to Rey. "Can you wait for me up in our chamber? I promise it won't take long."

"I will. And you stay as long as you need, I don't go anywhere, I'll wait for you."

"But I can't stay that much... I... Need to do something." he uttered.

And her eyes fell to the ground.

But he placed both his hands on her shoulders. "You'll see." he smiled reassuringly.

He followed his mother in the sparring room. When he was a child, it had been his favorite. All types of weapons were decorating the walls: swords short and long, wide and thin, axes, shields, war hammers, spears, maces and even knives.

And he knew that there, in the chest at the end of the hall, stood his mother's most treasured weapon: her old skywalker sword.

He hasn't said anything since they entered the room. He wanted her to begin, and to let her regain her strength.

And she walked toward him, and the gesture she did next took him by surprise. She placed a hand on his face. And he still was not used to that. He still felt like everyone hated him.

"I need to find my brother." She said, but Ben did not ask anything more, but let her continue. "I know he is still alive, Ben. I have just felt it in the council room."

"So that's what it was." he said as he drew in a breath, as if it were the greatest revelation. "But how...?"

"I don't know, it's the way we've been trained by our old maester. If you had stayed with your uncle more, he would have taught you the ways of it."

"Is it magic? Because Snoke trained me into something similar, too. He had taught me to read people's minds."

"No, not magic, but something else. Something good, something that binds the life itself. Snoke is evil, I can feel his Force."

"I know. I know it now." But there was a specific word from his mother's answer that had drawn his attention.

"Better later than never." Leia smiled.

She reached out and took her son's both hands in hers and locked eyes with him.

"Close your eyes, my child." She whispered.

He did as she said, and for the first time, he felt as he did when he was little. He felt safe and loved. And he knew she had forgiven him for what he had done.

"Now inhale deeply. And exhale. Let go of everything around you. Don't think about the traitor among us. Think only about those you love. Picture them in front of you."

And he did. He imagined his mother in front of him, his father and Rey walking towards him and taking his hand.

" What do you feel? "

He concentrated. There were a multitude of feelings that surrounded him, but this time all of them good.

"I feel you, and father's presence, and Rey. I can feel Rey." he said as if he could actually call her and she would respond. "I feel love, and peace." then a frown appeared between his brows, and fear. "But also war and death, and dark times ahead. But there's a hope. A hope built on love. A spark that will lead us to victory, and there are two. And I feel the life, and a force that binds Westeros, and all the beings in it, and the sea and the hills and the mountains. And life, a force of life. "

And he opened his eyes. Leia was smiling proudly." I never knew about any of this."

" My brother had shown me some force tricks when he last came here, ten years ago. He wanted to train me, too. But I lost my will when you were gone. "

   " I'm sorry."

"Don't be. Now you know what's good and what's not. And you'll never fail again."

"And anyone can be trained in this force?"

"No, not anyone. It depends whether on the bloodline, or on yourself. And your Rey has it too. Though I can't explain how."

"I felt it. I felt her presence. Stronger than anything else. A power as strong as mine. But she doesn't know she has it."

"No, she doesn't. Yet I think it's too much for her for now."

"So my uncle does hold the key to solving this conflict?"

"In a way, he does. There was once a prophecy... " She said as she closed her eyes. "...a hundred years ago, before our family came to be. When the White Walkers roamed the Real North, and the dragons lit the sky with their fire. When it was said that only the power of two could save the realms of men, the two Warriors of Light, the Azor Ahai come again. Many years people have believed that that power belonged to Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen. Yet, after some years later, the prophecy popped up again. And it only meant we have been wrong. And that the two saviors have not been discovered again. And, here's why your uncle had left the realm, and joined the black brothers: to travel the far north and discover the secrets of the first men, to learn the misterious ways of the Force that binds the life, the world. And now, he has the rest of the prophecy. He alone knows who will save us from Snoke's evil forces."

" And Snoke knows it. He knows my uncle has the key to win this war. " the realization dawned on him. "That's why he wants him dead, that's why Uncle Luke fled, to protect the prophecy."

   Leia nodded.

"If he is the key to this war, then I'll go search him myself." Ben said and he knew he had some debts to pay for his last actions. "I can't let Snoke get close to you, to my father or... To Rey. I would never let anything happen to her." he said with such determination, it startled Leia.

   She smiled affectionately at him.

"She's...she's like the air for me, she gives me strength, she gives me love. In spite of everything I've done. And I don't ever want to be far from her. I want to know she's safe and loved."

"Hmm...Rey, she needs to go with you. She's an adventure seeker. And only together you'll get through. She knows that."

"Was it that Force that told you?"

"Yes. And even though Rey had never heard about such thing, I find she's quite strong with it."

"She's not safe here anymore, and I won't let anything happen to her. I want to do what's best for her."

   "I know."

"Maybe Luke can show her the Force, show it to both of us." he blurted out.

"He will. The First Men were masters of the Force. It was a secret that had died along with them. But it was reborn with the coming of your grandfather. And now my brother is the only one who knows it in the realm, and if he doesn't pass it over, the key to it will be lost forever."

"Thank you, mother. For everything. For showing me the Force, for showing me the way to Rey."

"I've always felt her. I always knew she was strong with the force."
