Chapter 24 On Your Way
Ciel Phantomhive
"Stop acting so clueless, Sebastian." I said, rolling my eyes. "It is due today."
He smiled- more like smirked- and walked towards me. He moved his face to my ear before whispering,
"It seems like I will still be working for you a little longer."
I have known since then that there is something wrong. That there is a possibility that Sabrina Luthferd is not Juliana Phantomhive. There is no way that Sebastian would delay his meal if he had already fulfilled our contract. However, I did not pay any attention to it much for I want to live a happy life with my sister. Even if it means that this happiness fraud and short-lived.
However, I ruined this made up happiness myself. I fell in love with her. I fell in love with the person that was supposed to be my sister. I am an imbecile. But despite this self-resentment and regret, I knew that I cannot help it. There was something about her that reminded me of a lost precious of mine. A girl that made my young innocent heart happy and warm.
Julienne Greenmount.
She is the most beautiful lady I have ever seen. Growing up beside her, I believed that it was fate. Even if I was nothing more than a little boy back then, I can already see my future with her as my bride. Nevertheless, those thoughts only stayed in my youth. I grew up and soon forgot her smile that pars with the sun's beautiful light. I forgot how it feels to feel butterflies in my stomach. I forgot the wild feeling of my heart thumping against my chest. Every little positive feeling she bestowed was burned with the Phantomhive manor.
But now that I do know the truth, I cannot help but feel conflicted with my feelings. Should I be happy? Elated? Angry? Sad? Regretful? Should I feel relieved that I am not in love with my sister? These thoughts are enough to send my brain in havoc.
With thoughts rushing through my head, one dominant feeling arouse: I love her and I will do anything just to protect her smile. I am willing to do anything even if it means losing my life. Even if it means killing my own blood.
I chased after Juliana in a daze, hand secured around the sword strapped on my waist.
My sister expressed how much she have experienced hardships for the past years. I feel guilt for she took the heaviest blow and yet I, her brother, was not there for her.
Nonetheless, I cannot revert back time. All I can do now is shape the future. I may sound so arrogant and self-centered right now but I plan to pick a decision in which Julienne will remain by my side.
"Juliana." I called out as soon as I spotted a quivering form at a distance.
The gentle night breeze blew her blonde locks in a particular direction, making it sway ever so lightly. The moon was watching us. No matter what may happen, it would be in its guidance.
"Have I really turned into a monster?" came her question, voice so little and fragile. "He was the only person who have stuck to my side despite my twisted attitude and for me to kill him... Why?"
She faced me and there I saw the eyes of my younger sister. Tears were falling down her pale cheeks at a continuous rate and her hands that were clutching on her dagger were visibly shaking.
"...It's all your fault." Her voice went cold as ice once again. "We could've been happy if you have fulfilled your promise in taking me back. It's your fault for being a liar."
"Juliana." I called out, voice firm which made her stop from speaking. "You know how much I love you. I looked for you but you were hiding yourself."
"You should have looked harder!" she exclaimed.
"Juliana-"
"Stop it!" she shouted.
"Julia!"
She paused, eyes turning back to a normal hue once she realized what she was doing. "I...I want to be happy with you, Brother."
"You still can." I finally told her, holding a hand out while other remained resting on the hilt of my sword. Such blatant lie coming from my own mouth. It tasted like sand in my tongue.
"...You know that it cannot happen." She said. "I cannot be happy without my demon. I cannot be happy if I know for a fact that I ruined people's lives."
"...I'm not Juliana anymore, Brother. I am now just a monster that would kill and torment for my own pleasure." She knelt down on the ground, her blonde locks covering the entirety of her face. "Please kill me. I want to die. I want to die through the hands of a person whose life I ruined."
"Please end my suffering."
The wind carried her whisper to my ears. I could've said no and yet I know better than that. I know myself that Juliana's thinking cannot be fixed anymore. All I can give her is her peace.
"Kill me before I try to kill you."
I took my first step towards her in hesitation.
Can I really do it?
With my doubt came a flash of her face. The face of my beloved. Her smile that lit up my dark world.
I can do anything if it's for her.
I walked towards Julia, kneeling down once I was in front of her. I took out my sword from its scabbard in haste, looking back at Julia who still remained intact on the ground.
"Brother," she whispered, finally looking up. Her eyes were soft and gentle, despite the tears present. She gave me her sweetest smile. The smile that I have always adored as a brother. "Thank you."
I closed my eyes and with one swift movement, plunged the sharp lethal object to her chest. She released a loud gasp as her body stiffened at the sudden pain.
"Good night, my dearest sister."
My eyes found their way to her frame, seeing her limp and sank.
It was over.
I looked down on the ground in contemplation. I felt that all my worries have vanished to thin air. My shoulders felt extremely lighter.
I rose up from my position, choosing not to move my sister from her peaceful position.
"You're late." I ostracized to a certain person behind me.
"Says the person who orders his butler to go and shop for a wine in Paris amidst the conflict."
I laughed in pure amusement, turning to face Sebastian who had an annoyed look on his face which soon turned to his signature smirk.
"You look like you are in a good mood."
"Indeed I am." I answered, looking back at my sister. "I feel like I am going to be in peace even after I leave."
"Leave?"
I froze.
Light footsteps came in, together with the most beautiful woman reaching my view. The moon illuminated her features, making her look like the goddess of the night.
"You are leaving right after I thought that I can already live a life with you?" she asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Sebastian already fulfilled the contract. My soul is now his to take." I answered, quite seriously.
"I know that! Stop stating the obvious, Ciel Phantomhive." She said, her eyebrows crunched up together. "I still cannot believe that you traded your soul for a servant! You have so much money! Why not just hire one? You are such an imbecile!"
She kept rumbling and rumbling about how I have such poor life decisions. Why is she even complaining if there is no possible way out this problem? But I do have to stay, she looks so adorable in a frustrated state. I definitely am going to miss her.
I grabbed her by the waist, making her stop her current speech as I planted my lips against her soft ones. My heart started to ache and butterflies started to dance in my stomach. How I yearned contact for so long. She soon closed her eyes and ran a hand through my hair, responding to my kiss with equal intensity.
Once I knew that we were both satisfied, I pulled away.
"I love you, Sabrina Luthferd."
She did not reply. Did she suddenly realize that she does not feel the same?
"...I love you too, Ciel Phantomhive." She finally replied, smiling up at me.
With that, my lips went for hers once again.
