Chapter 20 Answer to Every Question

Sabrina Luthferd

Time seems to have ceased moving as I stared at his cold blue eyes. The words that I have been craving for him to tell me has come out of his own mouth. Warmth spread throughout my chest and my face reddened.

I was about to reveal my own feelings but I needed to weigh the odds first. First of all, we're siblings. I may have this speculation that we're not siblings but that is just still nothing but a speculation. Second of all, his fiancée have just died. It is a sign of disrespect to convey that one did not love the person he is about to marry just days after the person died. Third is that there is no solid proof that Brother really does love me in a romantic aspect.

And so, I have made ny decision to how am I supposed to react to the situation. I released a soft laugh and pulled my hand away from his.

His face turned that of confusion and pain.

I stretched my arms as a response. "It has been a long day for me, Brother. I shall now take my slumber."

"....I see." He closed his eyes and then nodded. "Goodnight." His voice was cold that it ripped my heart to pieces.

After that night, we did not talk each other anymore. No small talks, just silence that could kill. It may hurt my feelings but I do know that what I did was right.

As promised, I went back to Undertaker after three days. I'm really unnerved to what I am about to discover.

I opened the door to Undertaker's place to find him sitting properly behind his desk. He did not seem to be in the mood to go and make those crazy appearances.

"It's nice to see you, Sabry." He gently smiled, rising from his seat. "Just remain standing up."

I followed his instructions, gulping a bit. He firmly put his hands on each side of my shoulders.

"Just look at my palm." He instructed.

One of his hands freed my shoulder and he held out his hand in front of my face, palm facing I.

"Five, four, three, two, one~" he counted and removed his hand that was in front of me.

With such simple gesture, we arrived at a place that is certainly not Undertaker's shop. It was a spacious library that seems to extend infinitely.

"....Are you a witch?" I asked. Those were the first words that seemed to have entered my mind.

Undertaker chuckled. "I'm afraid I'm not, Sabry."

"What is a human doing here!??" A familiar voice chirped out.

I turned around to spot a redhead glaring at I with hands on his waist.

"In all due respect, why?" He asked, twirling to us. "This is extremely forbidden!"

"And so, I suggest for your cooperation." Undertaker said, running his long nail on his lips.

"I can't give you my word. Will will definitely kill m-" Grell was cut off when a picture was shown to him. "....."

"So, do we have a deal?"

Grell nodded a couple of times, grabbing the picture.

"This is heaven!~" he literally screamed, spinning in circles.

I do not know where I should start to feel bewildered. With the sudden teleportation? or the peculiar gesture of Grell? or the picture that was given to him?

"You see, Sabry, I am-"

"A Death God." I cut him short.

"Hmm? How did you know?" He asked.

"I have met him before." I answered, pointing at Grell who was doing a peculiar dance, kissing the photo every now and then.

"Eh? But there is no way to believe such claims, am I right?"

"I did not have any difficulty to accepting any claims that day since I just learned that demons exist.." I stopped. "And that my brother is going to be eaten by it."

Undertaker pondered. "..Well that seems plausible enough."

"...Where exactly am I?" I asked as I looked at my surroundings.

"You are in a place where all the records of life is stocked."

"How did you have those?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.

"We Death Gods have access to human memories and simply put in a book. " He said, gesturing all the books my eyes can reach. "Your great grandmother, grandmother, mother, and-"

"Myself." I muttered.

"You got that right." He said. "I was just about to get your book but I think that you will consider it bogus since anyone can write a made up life story."

"Where is it then..?" I asked, eager to answer all the questions in my mind.

"It is here with me." Undertaker said, holding out a book that seems to still be new. "I don't think it is practical to read it though. It is too long that you might waste at least five human days." He chuckled.

"Why don't I just narrate it to you over a cup of tea?" He asked with his usual smile.

"...How can I know that I am not being played upon?" I asked.

"Sabry, will you believe me if I tell you that I have known you since you were a child?" He answered my question with another question.

"No?"

He cackled. "But I do, dear."

"I do remember meeting you for the first time and how I got intrigued with your attitude." He inched closer towards I and lightly caressed my cheek.

My eyes remained focused on the scar along Undertaker's face. Just how long has he been alive?

"And we're back!" He cheered, moving away from me.

We were back in his small shop. I was already sitted on a coffin, a cup of tea beside me.

"My dear Sabry." He started, sitting on the coffin adjacent to mine. "...Or should I call you Julienne?"

I already anticipated this and yet, I can't help but still be shocked.

"Your mother has a good relationship with Vincent Phantomhive as a youth. They could have been a couple if it wasn't for their difference in terms of social hiarchy. As time passed, Vincent fell in love with someone else and married her. They had two wonderful children, a boy named Ciel and a girl named Juliana. Your mother, on the other hand, rose up her social status by marrying a famous trader. They also had a child. And that child was named close to Vincent's daughter; Julienne.

"You are the childhood friend of the Phantomhive siblings. You grew together with them. They treated you like family. You can say that you lived a happy life with them. Everything seemed perfect, is it not?" Undertaker cackled a bit.

"... One particular night, your mother and father were not able to go retrieve you from the manor. You were then told to stay in the manor for the night. And that night, the Phantomhive manor was attacked.

"You got taken by the assailants. Tortured even-"

"Sold to a cult." I continued, staring at nothingness. "They took Ciel away first..."

"Brother!" the girl cried.

"Juliana!!" The boy was being dragged away from her. Fear was evident in their eyes.

"Please don't take my brother away!"

"Please no!!"

Loud cries erupted from each other's mouth... But they cannot do anything about it.

"Juliana, no! You'll get whipped!" I called out, hugging my dear friend tightly.

"I'll come back! Julienne! Please take care of her-! I'll come back!,"

"... Followed by Julienne. I was left alone in that rotting prison cell."

I remembered all the details being presented to me. Sadly, they were all true.

"My mind was going crazy. I was close to breaking. But one promise can keep my sanity intact. His love. His promise to fetch me from that hellhole."

"And he came back... Came back after all these years." I gave Undertaker a smile, eyes glistening with tears that threaten to fall. "...But he came back for his sister and not for me."

I hastily wiped the tears that stained my cheeks. "But how come can't I remember these until now?"

"It maybe due to traumatic shock." Undertaker answered, shrugging his shoulders.

He walked to me and hoisted my head up with both hands. "That said, Sabrina, I would like you to dismiss this knowledge as the past. Everything is well now, is it not? You can continue living with him as your brother. Don't try complicating things the way they are."

That's... That's something I cannot do. I really love Brother - Ciel. I love him so much that I don't want our relationship to remain as brother and sister.

I can't simply tell brother that I am not his sister and skip to the part where everyone becomes happy and dance fandango. I need to look for Juliana myself and present her to my brother. That way, the thought of me being his sister will he dismissed. That's where things will take their course afterwards.

I nodded at Undertaker's words even though I really mean the opposite.

He gave me one satisfied smile and hugged me tightly.

That's when a fragment of my memory came to me.

"Please no more... I don't want this anymore... Stop it." I cried out.

I was drenched from top to bottom. It was cold and no warmth can comfort me.

No one can hear my pleas. I just had to accept my faith.

"Somebody... Help me..."

"I'm sorry, Julienne." Red orbs are the only thing that remained in my view. His cold hands caressed my cheeks and quivering lips. "I cannot provide the warmth you seek nor do I have the will to turn against my master. Worry not. This pain shall fade soon."

... Who are you?

"Brother Ciel!" A blonde little girl shouted as she ran for her older brother's arms.

"Julia! Stop running, you'll hurt yourself!" The raven haired boy shouted back, hugging his younger sister.

"Brother is so soft... And fluffy." The girl giggled.

The brother chuckled, savoring the warmth of his sister.

"Julia is really a brother's sister, jeez!" another blonde little girl complained, stalking towards the Phantomhive siblings.

Ciel pulled away at arm's length and laughed, beckoning her over. "You get jealous too easily, Julienne."

He gave her a soft kiss on the forehead once she was on his range. "Don't feel jealous anymore, okay?"

"I love you and Julia. But the difference is that I'll marry you."

"I love you, Julienne. Will you marry me once we get old?"

"Of course!"

.....

"...Ah."

"Is there any problem, Young Master?"

"I just had a dream from the past."

"Oh. You're smiling, Young Master. I will assume that this dream is pleasant, is it not?"

"... It is, indeed."
