✡ Chapter 2 Two Ends Meeting Calls For Fate's Intervention ✡
Thornless Rose. A pub in which there is no distinction between a modest factory worker and a corrupt aristocrat. Everyone can enter the place and enjoy a drink as long as they can afford to do so which does not really say much for the prices of their drink is also cheap.
The interior of this pub is beyond that of an average one. The color motif was the color of red wine and champagne gold. The lights were dim, producing a mysterious glow that fits with the environment. The bar was located at the left side, occupying the entire wall space with various liquors. A lone bartender by the name of Allan was tending the said bar, dealing with all the drunk individuals' whining.
On the far right side was a large stage in which a grand piano stood in the middle. The rest of the instruments were situated at the back, as if to pave way to the grand piano as the main attraction. Multiple round tables covered in red cloth and chairs were loitered around to provide seats for the audience that are to watch the performances commenced in the stage.
As of the moment, Sabrina was seated on the stool in front of the grand piano, running her fingers across each key with precise movement and fluidity. Her body swayed in line with the rhythm of the soft lulls of the tone produced by the instrument she was playing. She released a small breath before letting out her melodic voice.
Everyone kept quiet the entire performance as their eyes gleamed in admiration and amazement as they stare at the charming lady in front of them.
The blonde closed her eyes, a smile gracing her red stained lips. She felt at peace in this moment, her aura radiating so brightly. Unbeknownst to her were intensely charmed individuals who watched her every moment in blooming affection.
After her song finished, she stood up and let the cheers and roaring claps cover the entire pub.
"Thank you everyone and I hope you have a good night." She silently thanked, doing a deep bow before running for her dressing room and shutting the door. She didn't want to deal with overbearing people who keeps violating her personal space.
However, the moment she entered her room, she sensed the unsettling atmosphere enveloping her frame.
"Who's there?" she voiced out, a frown forming on her face. There was no hostility in the presence she was acknowledging but she can't afford to lower her defenses.
"You're a sharp woman, I see." Came a cold voice from Sabrina's side. She turned around as a response, seeing a male with beautiful ocean eyes sitting on a small cushioned seat with his legs crossed.
To her surprise, this male was the noble she saw a few days ago.
"I'm sorry if I surprised you." He continued, his voice not even close to an apologetic one.
"No, it's okay." Sabrina quickly said. "Just... tell me what brings you here."
"Well, I would like to extend an invitation to you regarding a party in my manor, Miss Luthford."
This made the lady raised an eyebrow. "Why?"
"I got quite intrigued with your performance a while ago and would like to see you perform in said gathering."
"..." Sabrina gave a weirded out look. Her forehead was creased to a frown and her fists were clenched into fists as if she was holding something back. "Why should I do that? I'm sorry but I do not know who you are to even consider your request."
The male flinched, his face tensing before it went back to being expressionless. "I apologize, Miss Luthford. My name is Ciel Phantomhive of the Phantomhive household. As you may know, I am acquainted with both Undertaker and Sir Copeland. I am asking you this favor for I have simply been amazed by your performance. It felt like a work of a professional, so to speak." He paused. "I promise that you will be compensated for your service that day."
The blonde pondered, her fists unclenching and lips pursing.
"...Alright. I'll accept your offer, sir."
-------
"I do not require you to wear the dress you usually wear for your performances. Just pick the clothing you are most comfortable with. Also, the Phantomhive manor is quite far so my butler would aid you in your journey and would be waiting for you in Thornless Rose early in the afternoon at the appointed time. That would be all."
"Have a nice night, Ms. Luthford."
"That was such a peculiar set of instructions." Sabrina mumbled to herself, staring at her reflection on the mirror in front of her. She carefully applied a glossy red tint on her lips, making her perfectly shaped lips more noticeable. With a final twirl of her simple slim-fitting wine red gown, she knew that she was ready to meet the Phantomhive butler.
As she stated, she indeed find the whole conversation with Ciel to be quite strange and new. It didn't contain any malice but instead was filled with mystery and doubt. She have thought of backing out of the deal they have made but it wasn't really her doing to ditch a plan at a last minute attempt. Besides, the money that was at stake was quite handsome (Almost as handsome as the person offering it, might she add). It will sustain her for ten months at most.
She smoothly maneuvered through the crowd, avoiding every obstacle that would come her way. Funny to think that she acquired this skill due to how long she has been living in the streets. She wasn't really the obedient type of child when she was young. She seeks thrill in her life, causing headaches to the people around her. Though such trait is still present in her young adult mind, she now possess maturity that keeps her on bay most of the time.
She swiftly took a turn to the left, only missing the incoming stall cart by an inch. She would've remained unscathed if it wasn't for the person that slammed against her frame. She stumbled backwards but nevertheless, kept her balance.
"Sor-"
"Watch where you're going, you idiotic one." The golden-eyed male in front of her chastised, numerous bags in his arms.
The man's statement made Sabrina's blood boil in an instant. "Well maybe you should be the one to watch where you're going, you four-eyed imbecilic swine." She said, sticking a tongue out in the male's direction before walking away without hearing the male's retort.
That kind of banter happens once in a while and Sabrina has become used to it that she knows what just to feel and do.
Upon reaching the Thornless Rose's entrance, she was not really surprised to find the red-eyed butler patiently waiting with his perfect features gleaming against the sun. He turned to Sabrina upon noticing her presence and flashed a smile towards her.
"Good afternoon, Ms. Luthferd. My name is Sebastian Michaelis, the head butler of the Phantomhive manor." He greeted with a bow.
'Wow he's so stiff like his master.'
"Hello." She greeted back really awkwardly. "I mean... er..." She stuttered, her mind turning blank for a second and her thoughts muddling together.
Sebastian released a soft chuckle, tilting his head and waiting for the Miss' reply with amusement in his eyes.
"I'm sorry. I'm really out of it when it's morning." She apologized, giving her temples a short rub. Once recovered, she straightened her posture once again and faced Sebastian with a straight face. "Nice meeting you, Sir Michaelis." She held out a hand and offered a professional smile towards him.
"I don't think I deserve this ges-"
"Nonsense." Sabrina retorted to which Sebastian find even more amusing. "If not on equal grounds then I can tell that I'm lower than your social status." She continued. "I am the one being thick faced here by offering my hand and I am not regretting it."
The butler's eyes widened by a mere fraction before another laugh escaped his lips, making him cover his mouth with a gloved hand. "What a straightforward Miss you are." with that said, he took Sabrina's hand, firmly shook it, and then kissed the back of it.
The lady quickly retracted her hand, surprised by his actions. But then she realized that it was normal amongst upperclassmen to do that... Right? She honestly doesn't give a d*mn anyway.
They soon entered the carriage driven by a cheerful blonde by the name of Finnian and made their way to the Phantomhive manor. The road to the manor was rather bumpy but it was otherwise a peaceful one. There were small talks that occurred between the singer and the butler that filled certain silence and Sabrina truly enjoyed it. After all, the butler seems to have an interesting perspective on things that she somehow relates to.
"But cats prefer it if you remove the oil in the canned—" the carriage came to an abrupt stop, making her also stop her current verdict about feeding stray cats.
Sebastian took this as a sign to open the carriage door and step out, holding out his hand for Sabrina to take. The woman casually took it and hopped off the carriage into the flat stable ground.
To call the Phantomhive manor gigantic is an understatement. It was so enormously large in size that a village can inhabit the place.
"Who even needs a house this big?" the blonde chastised under her breath, her brown eyes squinting.
Unbeknownst to her, the small insult was heard by the butler, an amused grin appearing on his face.
Though another question popped in the lady's mind, making her face Sebastian.
"Why is the manor so quiet if there's a banquet happening?" she asked as her thoughts were already being dumped with worst case scenarios such as kidnapping and human trafficking.
"It's a private banquet that involves only few people. Young Master doesn't want too much audiences for this particular occasion." The raven-haired male answered, gesturing the manor. Though satisfied with the answer, Sabrina remained wary as she climbed the stairs that leads to its large entrance.
Once opened, Sabrina was greeted by a surprisingly large hall with a centered grand staircase that probably leads to more rooms that were probably also going to be surprisingly large.
'This hall is larger than my entire house,' she thought to herself, an urge to release a sarcastic remark hanging on her tongue. But alas, she held it in and instead focused her gaze on the grand piano in the middle of the room.
By the grand piano was the host's back. He softly pressed a single key, the note vibrating against the area. The male then turned around at the sound of the doors closing, acknowledging the visitor that has entered his property.
"Miss Luthferd." He greeted, walking towards the said lady.
"Sir Phantomhive." She provided a short bow, not wanting the noble's ego to be stroked if she did a curtsy.
Behind the girl was the raven-haired servant bowing and excusing himself to the other room.
"Shall we start with your performance?"
Sabrina raised an eyebrow at this. "But there aren't any other people here except... us."
"The gathering only involves you and I." The blue-eyed noble casually answered. "Though this may count as a supposed friendly meeting, I am still wasting your working day that is why I intent to compensate by making it a business matter."
The blonder pursed her lips at this, folding her arms against her chest. "Somehow, I don't like the sound of this arrangement."
"I don't intend to offend you. I genuinely just want to know more about you..." he trailed off, finding such statement to be misleading. "... In a professional manner." His gaze on the lady's eyes wavered, darting from left to right.
A few seconds trickled before the singer finally gave in. There was money at stake and there weren't any laborious tasks involved. It's better to board the ship before it sails.
"Alright." She accepted.
Relieved to have passed the first obstacle of the day, Ciel motioned his guest to the grand piano that has been patiently waiting for her arrival. "Would you indulge my request for a song?"
With a nod, Sabrina situated herself to the grand piano. Adjusting her stance and feeling the keys of the instrument, she then gestured the vacant space next to her to which the male find confusing. "There's still a lot of space available. We can share the seat."
With great hesitation and pride, Phantomhive chose to position himself by the piano, lightly leaning on it. "This is more comfortable for me."
"...Whatever suits your fancy." With a quick flicked of her wrists, the entertainer slammed her fingers on the instrument wildly, tangled notes coming to her aid. This brought Ciel to a surprise, jerking away from the source of noise that he was leaning on a few moments ago.
Sabrina didn't wait for her companion to adjust and instead started to play the instrument. A melodic tune that fits her fast rhythmic fingers started to fill the room which silenced the noble's incoming complaint.
In all Ciel's honesty, he was not really liking the cold attitude Sabrina was giving him. His patience was close to snapping and he was ready to start a fight with the lady. However, all malicious intent vanished as he gazed upon the angelic glow the girl was emitting while she played the piano with a smile downed upon her lips. It was sinfully alluring and Ciel can't help but unknowingly get drawn in by her charm.
Sabrina ended the song as flashy as she started it, hands slowing down and melody dying down.
"... What song is that?" Ciel asked in fascination, not missing a beat right after the performance was finished.
"Cantarella... a song about the infamous Cesare and Lucrezia Borgia and their incestuous relationship..." the performer trailed off.
Uncomfortable upon the revelation, the male decided to change the topic with an awkward cough. "Who thought you how to play the piano?"
"Master taught me how to play it during my spare time." She answered, a fond smile forming on her lips.
"Oh, Mr. Copeland. You two aren't related to each other, I assume?"
"No, we're not related to each other. I was an orphan he found on the streets."
"How old were you when he found you?"
"... I don't know." She paused. "Why are you asking me such questions?"
"Mere curiosity." The noble shrugged, straightening his posture afterwards.
"Oh, bite me." Sabrina sarcastically voiced out, not able to keep her retorts anymore. She was done with all the secrecy. "There's no way a noble like you would take interest in me. There's something else you need from me, Sir Ciel Phantomhive. Let's not waste each other's time anymore. Spill."
"Oh so you're the straightforward type too." An amused smirk crawled on the male's lips. "Then let's get this straight, Miss Luthferd..."
"Who are you?"
"What do you mea-"
Ciel held out a hand to silence her. "According to Mr. Copeland, he found you eleven years ago in a state where you couldn't talk to anyone and just remain motionless. Once you were able to, you didn't provide any vital information to who you are. You told him that you couldn't remember anything aside from your name. And if I'm not mistaken, you told him that your name is..." He took a deep breath. "Julia."
Sabrina bit her lower lip, silenced by how much a mere stranger knows her. "...So?" she asked, voice silent. The atmosphere tensed so much that a single movement can mean a lot.
"Is it true? Is your name really Julia?" he asked. "Do you not really remember anything aside from that?"
"Why... W-why should I answer your questions?" She felt vulnerable at such accusations and she wasn't liking it.
"Because I need them, d*mn it!" frustrated, Ciel slammed his fist against the piano's keys, producing a horrible sound. His eyes glistened as tears of pain threatened to fall down.
He knelt down in front of the girl "Please... I need answers." he begged. "I lost my sister and you're the only clue I have... I need to know what you know. I beg of you. Help me. Please... I want my sister back."
The blonde softened, instantly feeling pity upon seeing the proud Earl crumbling at the mention of his sister. She felt the need to tell him what she knows, how limited it may be.
"I..." she sighed, crouching down and grabbing both his hands that were shaking so hard. She gently settled them on her lap, an attempt to calm the emotional man. This made Ciel look up and stare at her eyes. "My name is Julia, that's true. I don't remember my family name nor my family in that matter. What I distinctly remember during my younger years is my memory of me playing with a boy slightly older than me. He calls me by that name... 'Julia'." she lightly laughed. "I love his smile the most." She smiled at the thought of the raven-haired boy with sparkling blue eyes hidden within the blurred images of her memory. "Though the other vague memories I remember are not really pleasant... It's just filled with pain and grief."
She cleared her throat, keeping her voice from cracking. "But perhaps you need to know those bad recollections too... All I remember is... fire... people in cloaks... and being sold to a cult." She removed her grasp from Ciel's hands, a hand reaching for her shoulder. She slid a bit of her clothes' sleeves off, showing her right shoulder with a faint burnt mark of what appears to be a cult's symbol. Once sure that the noble already saw the symbol, she pulled her clothes back to its decent state.
"... That symbol." Ciel finally spoke after a long time, standing up. "... That's what they marked my sister with. Your blonde locks that resembles Mother... Your soft brown eyes that of Father's... Those recollections... Your name... That's what I call her... " he closed his eyes. "You..."
Sabrina knew where he was going with. Her heartstrings were tugged as a possible relative stood in front of her. Is he really...?
The memory of the young boy she always dreamed of flashed in her mind, showing the close resemblance of that boy to the man standing in front of her.
Not being able to hold it in anymore, tears rolled down Sabrina's eyes which was followed by sobs coming out her lips. "I— I don't know..."
Ciel grabbed Sabrina's hand, dragging her to his body before embracing her tightly. "It can't possibly be not you... You're her... You're Juliana Phantomhive."
"...Welcome home, my dear sister."
(Author's Note: Okay, I'm so confused with the Black Butler manga atm. But before the long rant, Hi! I'm alive and I'm still struggling to fix this horribly written fic.
Anywho, SPOILERS REGARDING THE MANGA AHEAD. DON'T READ THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS
So Ciel Phantomhive(C1) has a twin brother and his twin brother looks exactly like him. And his twin brother's name is also Ciel Phantomhive(C2). C2 tells us that C1 is an impostor and that he is the real Ciel. But C2 said that it's okay and that he forgives C1.
Um. W h a t.
Like what the f*ck? I'm so f*cking confused. The Ciel we all know all along is fake and there's a real one? Why the f*ck is C1 confused as me? Isn't he aware of C2? And what the f*ck. Why wasn't I informed or even given a hint that C1 is not Ciel in the early chapters? If they're twins and C2 is the real Ciel, then what is C1's real name??? Lol. F*cking sh*t. I think I'm kinda pissed. Is this plot twist even good or are they ruining this once great story?
If someone can understand this plot twist, I'll be happy to hear an explanation ;;-;;)
