Chapter 18 The Sounds of The Bells of Blessing

Sabrina Luthferd

"Juliana! Julienne! Where are you!?" Brother shouted as flames started to spread through out the manor.

"Brother! We're over here!" I cried out, holding onto a coughing girl.

"I'm coming!" ... I can see him! He's running towards us!

Men in black cloak suddenly appeared, pulling the girl and I away.

"BROTHER!" I screamed. "C-Ciel!!"

----------

It was dark and it smelled so foul. The only light present was the lamp that the old man was holding. The stench of urine and garbage filled the room. Rats litter around, creating those annoying clicking sounds.

The old man was there. He was watching my every move with only iron bars separating him from us.

I stared at the man's sinister eyes in terror as I embraced someone very close to my body.

"It will be alright, Julia. It will be alright, Julia. It will be alright, Julia." I muttered to myself like a spell that would keep the old man away.

"I'm scared." A soft voice mumbled against my chest as she moved closer.

"D-dont worry." I assured, patting her head. "B-brother will come and find us soon."

...But he did not come.

-----------

"Subdue her." A familiar figure ordered, looking down at I.

Crimson pair of eyes stared at I and all I managed was to cower in fear.

"Erase her mem...."

...?

-----------

"Young Mistress, please wake up!" A voice called out as my shoulders were being shook.

I opened my eyes and spotted crimson orbs staring at I. It looks like those cold eyes I saw in my dream.

I quickly pushed the person away and heaved labored breaths.

"...Are you alright, young mistress?" The person asked.

Ah. It's.. It's Sebastian.

"Y-yes, I am fine. I just had... A peculiar dream. I apologize if I caused a ruckus."

"..If that is what you say so." Sebastian answered, softly stroking my hair.

..It felt reassuring but..

"What are you doing, Sebastian?" I asked.

Is this a sign of affection?

"I am trying to calm your heart rate down."

"I am feeling fine already..." I reassured him, slowly grabbing his hand that was on my head and putting it back where it belong.

"What it is that you want?" I asked, changing the topic.

"..Today is the wedding, Young Mistress. I advice you to get ready already."

My world seemed to stopped spinning. The nightmare awhile ago left my mind and was replaced by the feeling of dread.

Brother is getting married to Elizabeth today.

The person I love is getting married today.

There is this pain in my chest that started to spread through my system. I looked at Sebastian, the sentient of lost present in my eyes.

"..Sebastian.. I.." I took a deep breath.

Shall I tell him the distress I am experiencing?

"..I shall get ready." I continued, forcing a small smile.

"Understood." He bowed and left the room, leaving a tray of biscuits and tea.

I decided to get up and get ready as silent tears started to stream down my face.

Everything will be alright. I just need to move on. I should just be happy that Brother will be happy. It is easy to say but is hard to execute.

Miss Meyrin helped me fitting the pure white clothing I am to wear. It looked gorgeous but I cannot deny the fact that I like wearing wine red attires. Another thing peculiar is.. Why do I wear a white gown?

"Young Mistress! You look really dazzling, yes indeed!" She cried out, clapping after she placed the veil on my head.

...Why do I have to wear a veil?

I checked myself on the mirror. I looked like a woman to be married. It brought a smile to my face.

"Meyrin!" The door opened loudly as a familiar voice called out the said name. "Elizabeth was crying. She said that her wedding dress is missing. She said that the dress in her room was not hers-"

I turned around to spot Brother in a white tuxedo with a blue necktie. His hair has been perfectly done and he looked gorgeous with his attire.

Our eyes met. Blue orbs against brown orbs. My heart started to beat wildly as I clenched onto the fabric of my clothes.

"Julia.." He was lost for words. And so was I.

"G-gaaah!" Meyrin exclaimed. I looked away from Brother, hiding the red tint on my face. "I-I h-have exchanged Young Mistress' and Lady Elizabeth's dress, yes i-indeed!"

She started to panic, shaking hysterically.

"O-oh!" I nodded thoughtfully.

So that is the reason why I find this very peculiar.

"I shall remove it now!" I answered. "I apologize deeply!"

"It's alright." Brother mumbled, heading for the door. "I rely on you Meyrin to deliver the dress to their rightful owners."

"Y-yes, Young Master!"

The door then shut, releasing a small click.

I took a deep breath of relief. My leg feels like it's about to fall out.

"Miss Meyrin.. Can you help me dress up?" I asked with a small smile.

"Why, of course!" She said, flashing a grin.

I got ready, wearing the pastel pink dress provided for I. The colour is not really something I favour but I need to consider the fact that it is a wedding of my Brother. I must at least look presentable and decent. For an accessory, I picked the red rose hairpin I have always worn during my days as a perform... Well, now I do look decent.

The whole manor's busy since the after party will occur here. I still have a few time to spare so I decided to play with the cat I now owned, Ms. Fluphiere or simply Ms Fluffy.

It would help me relieve myself from the strain I am feeling right now.

I held her in my arms as I sat on the grassy field of our garden.

"You are so adorable!" I said as I looked at her peculiar blue orbs.

She held out a small purr as a response and snuggled close to my arm. I softly stroked her fur, smiling in content.

"Young Mistress? It seems like you are having fun." I looked up to see Sebastian staring at me.. Or more specifically, Ms. Fluffy.

"Yes, I am." I answered with a small smile.

He knelt down to my level. "May I?"

I nodded and he took it as a sign to held the cat in his arms.

"She is beautiful." He said with a serene smile present on his face.

"I agree." I said, also smiling at the sight.

"What are you doing here, if I may ask?"

"I am.. Trying to pass the time." I lied, looking away from him for a second.

"Oh.. I see. It seems like you are not delighted with this celebration." He said lifting my chin with his fingers to meet his gaze.

"I a-am." I stuttered. "It is the celebration where Brother and his lover would be one."

I bit my lower lip as he studied my expression. I feel anxious under his mysterious orbs.

He sighed before letting go of me.

"If that is what you say so, Young Mistress." He thrust my cat back to my arms and stood up. "I shall know go back to see if the manor is ready."

I waved him farewell and went back to my quality time with my cat.

Soon, I took the carriage together with Finnian since Brother does not want me to go and wait there alone.

"You look beautiful, Young Mistress." He said with a slight blush and smile on his face.

"Thank you, that is so nice of you." I said with a big smile.

We soon reached the venue of the wedding, the chapel. In reality, the wedding is to be done on the garden of the chapel since they say that the atmosphere is more magical in there.

Well, it is not my wedding so I am not in the best position to judge. I walked out the carriage as soon as it stopped and Finnian opened the door for me.

"Young Mistress, I will be checking the equipments here. You can go to Miss Elizabeth first. She is inside the chapel!" Finnian exclaimed with a grin.

I took a bow as a response and grinned back.

Afterwards, I did what I was instructed to do and went inside the chapel.

I looked around to find a normal looking chapel that was adored with stained glasses and an altar.

"JULLLLLYYY!!" A voice shouted, embracing me tightly before I even had the chance to see who it was.

"Elizabeth..?" I asked, unsure as I stared at the ladies behind that appeared to be bride's maids.

"Geez! Call me Lizzy!" She said and let go of me.

She looked dazzling in her wedding dress. It is kind of unsettling for me since I was wearing that clothes a few moments ago.

"You look beautiful, Elizabeth." I complimented with a soft smile.

"You do too!" She giggled. "I am extremely excited to see Ciel!"

She twirled around before facing me once again and held both of my hands.

"I am really happy that I will marry him!" She gleefully stated. "But before the ceremony, I would like to have your blessing."

I stared at her emerald orbs that were staring back at mine.

'I do not want you two to get married'

That was what I wanted to say. I love Brother. Seeing him with someone else pains me the most. But if she will make Brother the happiest man on Earth.. Then..

"I approve." I said as I closed my eyes and smiled.

Tears are threatening to fall from my eyes as she hugged me and expressed her gratitude in pure bliss.

I tried talking to her for a while before deciding to get some fresh air.

I just really can't talk to the woman that was about to be Brother's wife.

I went out the chapel and heaved a sigh.

"What is up with the sigh, khukhukhukhu?"

I groaned, very familiar with that laugh. "Why in the world are you here, Undertaker?" I turned to his direction where he was leaning on a shovel that was embedded on the ground.

"I am here for the free cookies!" He announced before giving me a tight hug.

"Not funny." I answered, not in the mood for pointless conversations.

"I am just kidding. I just know that my service will be needed here." He said before chuckling sinisterly...

That laugh was unsettling. But it is Undertaker after all, so I am used to it.

"So.. Why is my dear Sabry so lonely?" He asked, still hugging me.

"It's... Nothing." I said, trying to remove his grasp.

"I don't buy it."

"Because it's not for sale!" I said, irritated.

He stilled for a while and so did I..

"I.. I'm sorry, Undertaker. I know that you are just doing this to cheer me up.." I apologized.

"It's alright.. You can cry, my dear Sabrina." He said with no hint of trickery as he softly stroked my hair.

I was not able to hold it anymore. All the pain, despair, and jealousy flood out. I started to cry in big tears, sobbing like it was the last time I'll be able to do it.

"I-I-." I stammered between sobs.

"Shhh. It's alright. I'm here." He hushed, still stroking my hair.

"I'm scared. I-i don't know what to do now." I confessed, wrapping my arms around his back tightly.

I felt comfortable with Undertaker.. He somehow stood up as my brother before I knew of my true identity. He was the one to comfort me during my depressing times.. Just like now.

He comforted me until my sobs turned into quiet mewling.

I decided to put some distance between us and wiped my sore eyes.

"You have soiled my clothes!" He said with his usual cackle. I hit his arm softly as a response.

"Thank you, Undertaker." I said with a smile, my voice hoarse.

"The ceremony will be starting soon." He mumbled against the sudden strong wind that blew.

"Shall we go?" I asked.

He grinned and nodded, holding my hands before marching to the place and dragging me with him.

I had no choice but take the front most seat with Edward Midford beside me. The atmosphere between us is suffocating. Just a single word from my mouth would kill the both of us so I chose to keep it quiet.

There are many guests. All are from the upper classes. Even the Chinese man was here in his tuxedo together with the Chinese girl that was wearing a more decent white dress. The servants are also there, laughing with each other. Even Sir Tanaka was not in his tea addicted state. Undertaker was with them, waving at me every now and then.

I held onto my gown tightly as the wedding march started to play. It sounded so sweet, so perfect and yet I despise it so much. Brother was there. He was waiting for Elizabeth near the priest. Elizabeth, on the hand, started to march towards him, smiling from ear to ear.

After this ceremony, they would be a couple. After a few months, they will have their first child. After a few years, they will have their second. After a few decades, they will turn wrinkly and old... I wonder how I will be during those times?

But then I realized.

...How about Brother's contract with Sebastian? I looked around, frantically searching for the crimson eyed demon butler. I cannot find him anywhere.. Well, I do think it's logical since this is a chapel and he is not in favour of holy.. objects.

Once Elizabeth had reached the altar, Brother took her hand and they both ventured to the priest.

The priest started to recite all what is needed up until the vows are being recited.

"I, Ciel Phantomhive, will..." Brother looked down for a second and took a deep breath before returning his gaze back to Elizabeth. "...Be.. Yeah.." He looked sideways, scratching his cheeks softly. "I will do my best."

...That was something. I wanted to laugh because it sounded so stupid but I need to keep my poise so I decided against it.

"I, Elizabeth, will cherish you Ciel! I will love you lots! Everything I am, I will give it to you!"

I looked down. Her vow is so sweet.

Time continued to pass by in a blur and the ceremony was coming to an end. My heart was beating so fast. I cannot calm it down.

"Ciel, do you take Elizabeth, for your lawful wedded wife, to live together after God's ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love, honor, comfort, and cherish her from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto her for as long as you both shall live?"

A part of me hopes that he will say 'No.'

But that is to not be expected. Just thinking about it hurts me deeply.

"I.. Do."

I sighed, clasping my hands together.

Goodbye, my beloved.

" Elizabeth, do you take Ciel for your lawful wedded husband, to live together after God's ordinance, in the holy estate of matrimony? Will you love, honor, comfort, and cherish him from this day forward, forsaking all others, keeping only unto him for as long as you both shall live?"

"I D--" Elizabeth quickly glanced behind Brother, eyes widening.

Gunshots. Once. Twice. Thrice.

"Duck!" A voice shouted, tackling me to the ground.

I looked at the person and saw Edward holding me tightly in his arms.

"Everyone, to the chapel!" He ordered, pointing at the direction of the chapel.

In fear, everyone followed, running and pushing around.

"I will be alright." I said with such determination, softly pulling away from Edward and standing up.

He nodded before running away to the direction where the gunshots emanated.

I looked around and tried to spot for the culprit or any signs of hostile groups myself... But strangely, I found none.

I quickly glanced at Brother, checking if he is alright.

He was alright but..

"ELIZABETH! TALK TO ME!" He shouted, shaking Elizabeth's body which was lying down on the ground. "You have to stay awake! Uncle would not want to see you in this state!"

My muscle tensed. I don't know what was happening.

"Elizabeth!??"

"Elizabeth!?"

"ELIZABETH!!"

The bells of blessing started to produce its chime. But not for Elizabeth's wedding.. But for her death.

And all I can do was stare and gape like a lost child in the streets.

This is not what I hoped for.

This is not what I dreamed of.

All I wanted was to be with Brother.

Not.. This...
