Chapter 10 Truths and a Pocket Knife

Sabrina Luthferd

"I have to say that the woman Phantomhive has the charm. I would like to savor her taste before we kill her."

Kill?

"If I may add, the boy has his appeal too." and the sound of sickly laughter was heard.

I have just awakened and the first thing I would hear is their fantasies towards a lady and a boy? Where am I? The air around the place where I am at is tense and unfamiliar. I am quite sure that I am not in the manor. I am lying on the ground on my left side. With this heavy feeling in wrists, it is to assume that I am bounded.

If my hazy memory serves me right, an intruder- no, intruders have managed to enter the manor without any proper invitation. I was not able to fight back. I cannot help but feel weak. This was not how I was. I am not a damsel in distress. This is annoying.

I need not feel this emotion just yet. I need to devise a plan to escape. I shall not open my eyes for the meantime.

Who would try to assault me? If I am to make a hypothesis, it would be a rival company of Funtom Companies. They must be holding a grudge against it and chose to attack a defenseless little lady who only drinks tea for a living... I am insulting myself, aren't I? I mentally sighed before continuing my analysis.

Since I am assuming that my captors are an elite enemy, it is safe to assume that there are around 50 personnel guarding this area.

I slightly opened my right eye, looking around the area... There is someone in front of me, bounded as well. He has his body backed up against a wall. He has this raven hair and an eyepatch adoring his right eye-- it's Brother. I mean Ciel.

My face started to heat up, noticing our proximity.

I need to focus!

"Hey, would you like to play poker outside?"

..Great.

"Are you an idiot? Boss will not like it if he caught us red handed!"

"Come on, It is just for a while! The hostages are knocked out like dolls. There is no way they could escape. Also, they are too weak to even break free from their binds." ....Bastard.

"..Okay."

"Now you're talking!" Footsteps were heard, followed by the door closing.

Ciel's eyes opened. He was also shocked to see me in this state.

"Why are you here!??" we both asked each other.

I-I need to get my horrid mouth working for him not to notice the scarlet shade on my face.

"Are you weak enough to get caught!? Are you even a man!? Disgrace yourself!" I shouted in a whisper.

That is what my uncooperative brain produced... I have no choice but to stick to it.

His face grew into a shade of red.

"I was caught off guard, I confess." he answered, looking anywhere but not in my direction.

He bit the bait! I changed the topic, delighted. "How long have we been staying here?"

"I am not sure myself. There aren't any windows present to indicate the time and I have not been awake for so long."

I nodded my head a little.

"We need to escape." I said.

"Not until we have solved the misunderstanding between the two of us."

I frowned. "There is no misunderstanding. There is nothing to talk about. You have made your intentions clear-- you do not want me as part of your family. You need not to lie any more. It only wrenches my heart."

He frowned. "Who said that?"

"You yourself. I have eavesdropped in your conversation with Sebastian in the carriage while we are out of town." I said, looking away to refrain my tears from falling.

"Juliana, look at me!" I flinched but looked at him anyway. His whole face was painted red. "You have heard that conversation!? H-how come you did not intervene!?"

"How could I intervene if I am the topic of your discussion?"

"Hush. Someone is approaching." He closed his eyes once again.

I held my breath, frightened on what is to come.

The door opened. "Where did I put the playing cards again?..." I heard slight sounds of movement. "Found it." and the door was closed again.

I let out a sigh of relief.

"You can if you please to do so." he said, opening his eyes once again.

"I cannot! I am not pleased with your topic!"

"P-pleased? ... Do you despise me that much." He coldly smiled but then stopped. "How much did you hear?"

"You consider me a nuisance and that you are just obliged to take care of me."

He sighed but I am not quite sure if it was in relief or exhaustion.

"I care about you. I love you, my dearest. You have brought life for the past two months that you were home." he said, smiling kindly.

Stop confusing my feelings! Stop smiling like that! "What did I hear then!?"

Here he is making my heart beat so fast as if he did no wrong! This is completely illogical!

"You did not hear the whole conversation. Please, believe my words."

A loud crash was then heard, followed by gun shots and cries. "Seems like Sebastian is here." he muttered.

But I was not in the mood to push that topic.

"Why would I believe you if you are keeping secrets!? Why did you not tell me about your job as the Queen's Watchdog!?" I shouted, making his attention return to me.

He rolled his eyes. "That is common knowledge, my sister. Everyone knows that the head of the Phantomhive manor takes care of the unpleasant business of the queen."

...Is it?

"But then, I apologize if I indeed lack explanation of my duties. Will you please forgive?"

....Those gentle eyes made me give up in an instant. I nodded my head, annoyed by my early defeat.

"Now it is my chance to clear my suspicion. Who is the man that was intimately touching you two days ago?"

"I-intimately!?" I repeated.

"He has his hands on your cheeks. He was going to kiss you."

"K-kiss?!"

"For Christ's sake, stop repeating repeating  my words!" he asked, irritated. "Just answer my question."

"Jim." I answered."I was crying after hearing your thoughts about me and he was trying to comfort me."

"....Stay away from him. I would not like you to interact with him."

"But he is one of my few friends!"

"You do not need anyone but me." he said, raising his tone. "Promise me that you will never converse with that person again."

Reasoning will never work against a person like Brother. We can settle, however, in a compromise.

"Promise me that you shall never keep secrets from me!"

"...I promise."

"I too, promise then."

He cleared his throat. "Now, let us try to escape this horrid place."

Now, he is talking!

"There is a pocket knife strapped near my socks. Can you get that?"

I nodded, turning my back against him. I crawled down a little bit. "Am I now in your leg area?"

"Yes."

I crawled towards his body, brushing my tied hands against it.

"..There!" he called out. I slightly pulled his pants out and feel for a bulging sensation.

After several tries, I managed to pull out the knife. I rolled away from him to avoid myself from hitting him with the lethal object.

Fiddling around the object, I managed to make the sharp edges appear. I successfully managed to remove my ties after some time. I was free.

I ran to Brother and cut his bounds as well.

I was relieved.. Not until a man broke out the door. "What!?" he exclaimed, running towards me and pulling me close to his body. He held a gun on my temple. "Move and her brain will fill--"

"Stop this nonsense! I am not a damsel in distress!" I shouted at the top of my lungs, stepping on his right foot.

His grip loosened, allowing me to elbow his stomach hard. He dropped his weapon, his face contoured with pain. He is still conscious. I took out a wooden chair beside me and slammed it on his head, knocking him out.

Chair debris flew around. I felt sorry for him for a second but it soon dissolved. This bastard made me feel like useless filth. I kicked his side hard before taking his gun and turning to Brother.

His mouth was slightly  opened and his eyes are wide open as well.

"Brother, we need to leave!" I called out.

"S-sure." he said, walking towards me.

"H-hey! They have escaped!" I turned around to spot another man. I took out a large debris from the ground and threw it across the man's face. He dodged it, slightly distracted.

I pulled the trigger of the gun, shooting in various direction while running towards him. With such proper timing, I managed to hit his head with mine. Hard.

....My head ached but he was knocked unconscious so it is fine. I turned to Brother and smiled.

"Everything is alright!" I cheered.

He shook his head, smiling. "You are indeed unpredictable."

I walked to him. The world seems to be shaking a little bit. I walked in a zigzag like pattern, keeping myself balanced.

"H-hey."

"Young Mistress, Young Master. Are you ready to go back to the manor?" I turned around to spot Sebastian, smiling.

"Took you long enough." Brother said, raising an eyebrow.

I nodded. "Where are the others?"

Sebastian slightly tilted his head. "Others? I am afraid to tell you but I am alone."

...."How many people are guarding this area then!?" I asked.

"...Around 80, Young Mistress."

"Then, how-"

"I am one hell of a butler, Young Mistress." he mysteriously answered. "Well then, are we to leave now?"

"Did you annihilate Charles Mayer? I believe that he was the one at fault."

..Charles Mayer is the person that Brother was looking for.

"No, Young Master but I believe that he is in this very place."

"Touche." a voice said.

In a blink of an eye, Sebastian was in front of us. He pulled us down as bullets flew around the room.

He got hit, didn't he.

"Sebastian! Are you wel--" he cut me off with a smile.

The culprit ceased to fire, pleases with the results. I am completely horrified. Someone is dying in front of me and I cannot do anything but stare at him with shock.

"Young Mistress, smiling would suit you more than that frightened face." he stood up, held out a gloved hand to his mouth, and spat out three bullets drenched with blood. "But I have to admit, your frightened face sends a pleasurable shiver on my body to the point of arousal."

I simply stared.

He winked and turned to Brother. "What is your order, Young Master?"

Brother scoffed, removing his eyepatch to reveal a seal like symbol on his right.. I continued to stare at them, mortified.

"Sebastian Michaelis, I, Ciel Phantomhive, order you to punish Charles Mayer."

"Yes, my Lord."

An intimidating aura suddenly surrounded Sebastian. The air around the room got more tense. Feathers started to fill the room. The feathers are all black and I cannot say more...

Someone turned me away from the sight. It was Brother. He embraced me, covering my field of vision with his broad shoulder.

"I will explain everything once we are home. For now, I would like you to focus only on the sound of my voice."

...What is happening?
