Nyzaia's Cake ^^

Aspen's P.O.V.

"Everyone gathers over to the table otherwise you won't get a piece of cake!" I yelled from the back door to the kids, all of them ran over almost tripping me as they all gathered around the table. I asked Mylie to bring over all the gifts too. 

"Wait before cut the cake can Damon and Talon sing Happy Birthday to me?" Nyzie asked I looked over to them. 

Damon shrugged stepping forward, "I don't mind,"

Talon did too, "Sure, we'll start it off then everyone can join in?"

Everyone cheered as the two began, "Happy Birthday to you..." Damon began, "Happy Birthday to you..." Talon continued gesturing everyone to join in. "Happy birthday to you Nyzaia, Happy Birthday to you."

Nyzie blew out the candle as everyone clapped for her, slowly around the circle everyone fed her a piece of cake for good luck as we did in my family before separating to let her open her presents. 

"Open mine, first," Bear said excitedly, Nyzie giggled opening his carefully it was a cool gadget she had always wanted to do her nails with, she got up and thanked him. Slowly she went around the room opening and thanking everyone for the gifts. She got to Damon and Talon's which were just some signed CDs and a poster. She finally looked up at me. 

"Mommy...where is your gift?"

I let out a shaky breath handing her a small box with Rhett's necklace in it. "This year the gift is actually from Daddy," I said smiling down at her.

She looked at me confused, "Daddy...?"

"Go on. Open it." I said, 

Nyzie opened the box carefully popping it open she gasped, "This is so pretty Mommy." She pulled it out of the box holding it up so everyone could see. 

"That's Rhett's necklace," Mom said holding back tears. 

"Daddy's necklace?" She asked 

"Yeah... your daddy used to wear this necklace around all the time because his mom had given it to him."

"So it was grandma's?"

"Mhm, but Grandma passed away so your Daddy kept it safe for her, and now..." I took the necklace from her hand putting it around her neck, "It's your turn to keep the necklace safe for him."

Nyzie stared down at it kissing it gently, "This is the best gift ever Mommy, I love it." Jumping up into my arms she hugged me tight, "I promise I will take of it."

"I know you will baby," I whispered letting her down I usher her to go play with her friends for a little while more before they go home as their parents pack up their things.

The party went on for a while before the parents started to call the kids over to leave, it was around 8:30 pm. One by one all the kids had left the only ones left were Nini, Saber, and Nyzie. 

"That was very thoughtful of you Penny to give that necklace to Nyzie." Aunt Rosey said as we all drank tea. Talon looked over at me giving me a sympathetic look. "It must have been a hard choice."

Letting out a big breath I shook my head, "No, Rhett wanted her to have the necklace. It was his last wish...I just never had the strength in me to give it to her. I guess I was just waiting for the right time." 

Aunt Rosey gently rubbed my back, "And her seventh birthday couldn't have been a better time."

Uncle Clay smiled at me, "You are a very strong girl Penny, know that you are very loved alright? If you ever need any help don't hesitate to call any one of us alright?"

"I know Uncle Clay." 

"Shit!" Talon said dropping his tea all over his shirt he looked up at us, "I'm sorry, I wasn't paying attention."

"It's okay," Mom said, "Penny, take Talon up to the bathroom."

"He knows the way," 

"Penny, go." She said sternly,

Glaring at Talon I put my cup down on the table leading him upstairs to my bathroom, "Here it is," I said pointing at it I was about to leave but Talon pulled me into the bathroom with him. "What the hell?! Let go." Slamming the door shut he locked it quickly blocking my only exit. 

"I have been wanting to talk to you ever since I walked into your daughter's birthday party I am not letting you go." He said walking closer to me. 

"Why?" 

"I have questions eating away at me and they have been eating away at me for the past fucking ten years." My heart skipped a beat, "But for now I'm going to settle with how did you meet Rhett?"

"I don't have to tell you anything Talon," I snapped at him crossing my arms, "You can't come after ten years and ask me about my life like we are best fucking friends."

"We were best friends!" He snapped back

"Well, things changed!" I said throwing my hands up in the air, "Things change Talon, we changed."

"You changed," Talon said accusing, "I didn't. I was still the same Talon, you changed."

Looking back at it I hurt I wanted to get out of the bathroom, "Look Talon, right now is not the right time to talk about everything. It's my daughter's birthday today-"

"That's exactly the problem Navy, it's your daughter's birthday."

"Excuse me? Why is my daughter's birthday a problem for you?"

"Because..." He began looking around frantically, "Because I thought you would wait for me to come back Navy. You would wait for me and we would start a life together-"

"You expected me to wait? You expected me to wait for you even after the way you left me?" I look at him baffled, "Talon you took my heart and stomped on it!"

He looked away, "And for your information, I did wait, I waited for you the first day of college...I waited for you at the first party I went to. But as two years went by I realized you weren't coming back for me no matter how long I waited for you. Rhett became my friend in those two years...he liked me and I..." I stopped to take a breath, "I needed to get over you. Rhett knew that I loved you..." My voice cracked, "But he still loved me enough to overlook that fact, every sleepless night he was there, every tear he wiped, every gloomy day he changed into a sunny day. In the next year, I started to like him and we became a couple. Then when we became a couple we...we did couple stuff and Nyzaia happened. But we never regretted having her because it brought us closer, we started to do everything for her, and we started to become a family. But things went south before her third birthday...Rhett was taken away from the both of us."

Talon stared at me angrily for a moment as he took a step back, "Rhett was there where you were supposed to be..." I whispered to him, "It's not my fault you never came back...it's not my fault that I fell in love with another guy...and having my daughter was not a MISTAKE."

I wiped a tear away, "I called your phone every single day...twice but you never picked up...I mailed you letters you never answered them. Every time..." I said tiredly, "Every time I called Jax I would ask for you but you never talked to me...I could hear your voice but you would never talk to me."

He looked away from me leaning against the bathroom door, "So don't blame me for not waiting." I snapped pushing him away from the door aggressively I ran out of the bathroom. 

I thought he came to apologize but he just came to hurt me more.
