Part 3; Chapter 13 - Recovery

(I've been so unmotivated lmao)

=Rainbow's POV=

It had been about a week since Sabre's forearm was taken off. He seemed upset- well, who wouldn't be- about it. He had tried to be positive about it, saying stuff like 'At least it's not my leg!' Only for Moose to slap him and yell at him to not jinx it.

I was sitting with Sabre on the long couch, staring out the window silently. Sabre was slumping and reading a book, his left arm over the back of the couch. I watched a wooly sheep, that Nathan had dyed green, graze outside. I chuckled to myself, catching Sabre's attention.

"Something up?" He asked. I shrugged and pointed outside. "Nathan dyed that sheep green earlier. His hands are all green cause he didn't wear gloves." I laughed, Sabre giggling a bit in response. "Well, he sure does like the color green." He commented.

"Hey, so, since you were a Blue Steve before, what Steve types would our human friends be?" I asked. He shrugged. "Nathan would be a Green Steve based on eye color, but by the way he acts, probably a Yellow Steve." He commented. I nodded in response.

"What about Moose?" "He smacked me. Red Steve with sense." Sabre blurted. I laughed. "Shark, then? I don't think I've ever seen him take off his sunglasses." I asked.

"Yeah, well, that's because his eyes are rare where I'm from. Less than one percent of the human population, which is actually a large number now that I think about it, have them."

"Well? What color are they?"

"They're violet, but instead of any pale violet, they're really saturated, and honestly beautiful. People tried to hit on him, and he was uncomfortable, so he just hides his eyes with his sunglasses."

"Ah, so it's not like you, where you'd be made fun of, but the opposite."

"Basically, yeah."

"So he'd be a Purple Steve?" I asked. Sabre laughed and nodded. "Yeah, sure, Rainbow."

We stared out the window for a little while longer, before Sabre brought up something. "Speaking of humans.. Where the heck has Lucas been? He said he'd come back, but..." He trailed off and let out a huff.

"Lucas?" I tilted my head. Who the heck was that? Another human or something? "Ah- right. I forgot that you forgot." He mumbled.

"Lucas was someone you and I were friends with back at the Rainbow Town. His hair was dirty blond, he had blue eyes, and wore red and black colors. He also had an accent. But then he had to go back to his home." Sabre explained.

"Ohhh.. You said he told you he'd be back?" I questioned. Sabre sighed. "Yeah. He didn't tell me when though. I miss him." He replied. "Understandable." I agreed.

We sat in silence yet again.

"What kind of Steve would Lucas be?" I asked. Sabre shrugged. "Again, going off eye color, I'd say a Blue Steve. He's pretty smart, but a little goofy, y'know?" He explained.

"Ah," I replied, "so.. do you think he'll come back soon?" Sabre shook his head at this. "What would he come back to? A giant crater in the ground where our home used to be?" He muttered. I looked away. "Maybe he can find his way back to us. To you." I suggested.

"Eh. I highly doubt I'll ever see him again. He was a good friend." I heard Sabre's voice tremble, turning back to him. "Need a hug?" I asked. He nodded. "That would be nice."

I latched onto him, hugging him close as he did the same. "At least you guys were friends, rather than never knowing each other at all.." I told him.

"Yeah. It's the memories that matter, right?" He asked, looking to me. "Thanks, Rainbow."

We smiled at each other, even though it was sad.

He was right.

The memories are the things that count.
