I sighed as I walked through my apartment and into the kitchen where Thalia was already sat waiting for me, two freshly brewed mugs of coffee sat in front of.
It'd been nearly a month since I told Percy the truth about Alice. Ever since that day he'd stopped going to work and I'd had no contact with him. He didn't reply to my many texts, calls, or even emails.
"Hey, cheer up," Thalia ordered me. "I hate seeing you like this. I'm sure today'll be better."
I shook my head as I sat down at the counter. I grabbed one of the mugs and blew the steam down. "It won't be, Thalia. I know that, but thanks for the reassurance."
Thalia frowned, her stormy eyes narrowing at me. "You never know, Annabeth. I'm sure he'll get over this."
"It's been what, a month now?" I asked. "He seems pretty pissed. I wouldn't he surprised if I never saw him again. He must not be who I thought he was. If he wanted to get to know or be in Alice's life now, he would've let me know. I...I knew this would happen. I should've listened to you."
"Annabeth, no," Thalia replied, causing my eyes to widen. "I shouldn't have tried to force you two apart. You should've told him right away like you wanted to. This....this is all my fault..."
"Thalia, what are you talking about?" I exclaimed as she hung her head. "You were just trying to protect me. Besides, you should be glad he's gone now."
Thalia laughed weakly. "I should be glad he's gone? Annabeth, he clearly makes you happy. All I want is for you and Alice to be happy. And if having that dorky guy in your life does that, I'm all for it."
"Thanks," I replied half-heartedly as I took a sip of the coffee. "Ugh, I should get going soon. The project is being finalized today."
"See you tonight," Thalia said with a wink as I downed the rest of my coffee and headed towards the door. "Movie night tonight, and I bet you'll never guess what Alice picked."
I rolled my eyes but couldn't help but laugh. "I think I can imagine."
I miraculously arrived right on time and, to my surprise, several unknown people in suits were waiting by my desk inside my office.
"Here she is now," my boss said with a grin as I walked in. "Annabeth, these are the owners of the company you're designing a building for. Percy's company."
My face dropped at the mention of Percy. I scanned the sea of suits for Percy's goofy face, but he wasn't there.
"Hello, it's a pleasure finally meeting all of you," I said politely. "Are you here to look over the final plans before building?"
The leader, a woman in a dark colored pantsuit, emerged from the crowd and nodded. "Yes, that's why we're here today."
She led me to the conference room where the plans had already been set up. I explained the plans to her and the group and, for a few minutes, forgot everything wrong in my life.
"Well, this looks amazing," the woman said as I finished my explanation. "You've thought of everything. I'm so glad I assigned Percy to this task; he found someone perfect! Was he alright to work with? I know he can be a bit immature at times."
I went red at the mention of Percy but I just nodded, pushing past it. "Oh, no, he was delightful to work with. Do...do you know why he stopped showing up here everyday?"
The woman shrugged. "I don't know. He wasn't even supposed to come in here everyday like he did. It wasn't really recommended, but he insisted. In fact, I'm glad he did as this turned out amazing. I'm also glad he's cutting back though, he works too hard."
He wasn't supposed to come in? I thought. Did he come in just to see me?
I grinned. "Yeah, that sure sounds like him. Thank you for your time, I can't wait for this building to be finished."
"Of course," she said with a warm smile. "We'll be seeing you again soon."
And with that, they all left.
