The 100th letter

Ryujin's POV

Yuuto,
This month was not as exciting as yours. I learned a few new stances in class, and improved my grades in etiquette and mannerism classes.
I suppose the prank on my writing tutor, pulled by a few of my classmates, was the most excitement my month here has allowed. They filled his cushion seat with pebbles from the side of the stream that runs through the estate.

This letter will be the 100th one. It seems so long now since I last saw you're face, old friend.

I should tell you. Remember when we were young, and the promise we made? I used to think it was just games and merely childish fun. But... I believe I'm in love with you...
You do not need to reply if you no longer wish to write to me.

- Ryujin, your friend.

I hesitated as my pen scribbled the characters onto the page. I don't want him to hate me...

I glanced towards the window, looking out into the estate. Children ran around on small bridges that crossed the stream, laughing and playing in their traditional kimono gowns.

I suppose it's time for classes.

I sighed and stood up, dusting down my kimono before picking up my letter to Yuuto. This isn't something anybody else should see; I should hide this to make sure no one but my Yuuto will read my confession.

I slide it under my cushion seat before making my way to the door, sliding my feet into some shoes to go out across the estate to my etiquette class.

Class wasn't incredibly exiting, we just reinforced our knowledge of posture and mannerisms.

When the day was over, I returned to my room. I opened the door to find my father sitting at my desk.

Oh dear.

"Oh uhh... hey, dad. What's up?" I asked, worry filling me. He never comes in my room. Something must be up.

"Son" he started. Oh no. I'm in trouble. He only starts that way when I've done something wrong. "What is the meaning of this letter, you've written? Yuuto is that boy from the village we used to live in, correct? Why do you want to tell him this? Why are you writing him letters in the first place?" he stood up slowly as he spoke.

"Why were you in here in the first place? Huh? You never come in here!" I argued.

"Don't you argue with me, boy! I raised you better than this!" he raised the letter into view, waving it a little to signal what he referred to.

"So you're not really mad about me talking back, just that I keep in contact with old friends." I retorted, folding my arms.

"I'm mad that you misunderstand your own feeling in such a way. You are to become a strong warrior, like we've been training you. You have to continue our legacy, Ryujin. I was a warrior, my father was a warrior and his father before him. Just like you will, and your sons. Their sons will be warriors, and so forth."

"I don't need you to decide my future, dad. I want to be with Yuuto." I replied, taking the letter from him.

"Enough. I will send for Satori to train you how to love women." he avoided my gaze, disappointed in his son. He took the letter back from me and shredded it.

Oh shit.
