Ch. 7 Wicked! It is nice to meet a fellow twin (Year 1)

Year 1: 1991 - 1992

[Revised: Monday, July 15, 2024]

It had been two months since Basil and Harry discovered their magical heritage. After receiving their acceptance letters to Hogwarts and gathering their school supplies from Diagon Alley on their eleventh birthday, the Potter twins immersed themselves in their textbooks to better understand Hogwarts and its core subjects. Basil found Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, and Potions intriguing, while Harry was captivated by Charms, Defence Against the Dark Arts, Transfiguration, Herbology, and Astronomy.

On Sunday, September 1, 1991, Basil and Harry woke up from their slumber. They glanced at each other, visibly tired from staying up all night, a mix of nervousness and excitement bubbling within them.

"Morning, Harry," Basil greeted with a yawn.

"Morning, Bass," Harry replied, equally tired.

"Boys! I suggest you get ready. I don't want you to miss the train to Hogwarts!" Petunia's voice echoed from downstairs as she busied herself making breakfast in the kitchen.

"Okay!" Basil and Harry chorused in response as they got out of bed, stretching their limbs.

"You should shower first," Basil suggested to Harry.

"I'm fine. You go ahead. You're the older one," Harry smiled softly at Basil.

"Harry, I'm only older by five minutes," Basil mumbled.

"Enough chatter. If we keep this up, we'll be late," Harry chuckled, gently nudging Basil towards the bathroom.

Basil playfully pouted as he left their room and headed to the bathroom. Ten minutes later, he emerged, having finished his shower, and returned to their bedroom to find Harry sitting on his bed with Hogwarts: A History in his lap.

"Harry, the shower's all yours," Basil called out as he entered their room.

Harry nodded, placing his book back in his trunk before leaving their bedroom.

Meanwhile, Basil went to his closet and selected his attire for the day. He opted for his red-black varsity jacket adorned with an enchanted Hogwarts patch on the left side, a black short-sleeve shirt underneath, blue jeans, and black-white Converse sneakers.

Exiting his bedroom, Basil descended the stairs to the living room, where Vernon sat drinking coffee and reading the newspaper, dressed in his work attire. Dudley was seated across from him, already digging into his breakfast, dressed in his Smeltings Academy school uniform.

"Morning," Basil greeted politely as he sat next to Dudley.

"Morning, Basil," Vernon replied courteously.

"Morning," Dudley greeted cheerfully, patting Basil on the back.

"Here you go, dear," Petunia emerged from the kitchen, placing a plate of food and orange juice in front of Basil.

"Thank you, Aunt Petunia," Basil thanked her warmly, picking up his fork and starting on his breakfast.

Shortly after, Harry joined them in the living room, dressed in a long-sleeve blue-white striped shirt, blue jeans, and matching black-white Converse.

"Morning, everyone," Harry greeted as he sat beside Vernon across from Basil.

"Here you go, dear," Petunia smiled fondly, placing a plate of food and orange juice in front of Harry.

"Thank you, Aunt Petunia," Harry thanked her kindly, digging into his breakfast.

An hour passed, during which the Dursleys and the Potter twins finished breakfast. Petunia headed to the kitchen to wash the dishes while Basil, Harry, and Dudley brushed their teeth in the bathroom. Meanwhile, Vernon gathered Basil and Harry's school supplies and loaded them into Petunia's car, as she would be taking them to King's Cross Train Station while he dropped Dudley off at school and then headed to work.

Basil, Harry, and Dudley descended the stairs to the living room a few minutes later.

"You two better write me letters," Dudley scolded sternly, though his affectionate smile betrayed his true feelings. "I'm going to miss you guys."

"We're going to miss you too, Dudders," Basil and Harry hugged Dudley tightly.

"Dudley, get your backpack. I need to take you to school," Vernon called out, standing by the door.

"Okay!" Dudley nodded, releasing Basil and Harry from his embrace and grabbing his backpack. "Bye, you guys!" he waved as he exited the house and climbed into Vernon's car.

"Bye!" Basil and Harry waved back.

"Basil, Harry," Vernon turned to his nephews. "Have a great time at Hogwarts. But be careful," he hugged them both, knowing it would be Christmas before he saw them again.

"We will! Love you, Uncle Vernon," Basil and Harry returned the hug warmly.

Vernon released them, affectionately ruffling their hair. He then turned to Petunia, and the two shared a loving kiss before he left the house and got into the car.

Petunia, Basil, and Harry waved goodbye from the doorway as they watched Vernon and Dudley drive off. The dark-haired woman then turned her attention to her nephews.

"Are you two ready?" Petunia asked, her eyes soft and affectionate as she looked at Basil and Harry.

Basil and Harry exchanged a glance before smiling back at Petunia.

"We're ready!" they replied unison, excitement evident in their voices.

Petunia smiled softly at them, grabbing her purse before locking the door behind them. The Potter twins climbed into the car as Petunia drove away.

An hour and a half later, Petunia, Basil, and Harry arrived safely at King's Cross Train Station. Petunia turned off the car's engine as the twins stepped out.

"Boys, go get two carts and help me load your school supplies," Petunia called out as she turned off the car.

"Okay!" Basil and Harry nodded, walking to the carts and standing beside two identical red-haired boys.

"Hello," Harry greeted kindly, addressing the red-haired boys.

The twins turned to Basil and Harry, their faces lighting up when they noticed Basil's enchanted Hogwarts patch on his varsity jacket.

"Hello, mates. You two must be—"

"—first-year students, right?" the first red-haired boy finished the sentence.

"You two—"

"—attend Hogwarts?" Basil glanced around.

"Yes!" the red-haired boys gave Basil and Harry a thumbs-up.

"Cool!" Basil and Harry responded, pleased to meet fellow Hogwarts students.

"I'm Fred Weasley—"

"—and I'm his twin, George Weasley," the second red-haired boy introduced themselves.

"You guys are twins! Harry and I are twins too, but fraternal," Basil explained with a smile.

"Wicked! It's nice to meet a fellow twin," Fred chuckled.

"What are your names, by the way?" George asked politely.

"Oh! I'm Basil Potter—"

"—and I'm his twin, Harry Potter," Harry introduced themselves.

Basil and Harry blinked in surprise as Fred and George stared at them, a mixture of astonishment and confusion crossing their faces.

"No one told us that the legendary Harry Potter has a twin, right, Georgie?" Fred turned to George.

"That's right, Freddie. We've heard many stories about the legendary Harry Potter being an only child, but never about him having a twin," George replied.

Basil awkwardly shuffled his feet as Harry lightly squeezed his hand, feeling protective of his brother.

"Those people don't know me," Harry asserted firmly to Fred and George, his tone protective of Basil.

Fred and George looked sheepishly at Basil, realizing their slip.

"Sorry, mate," Fred and George apologized to Basil.

Basil chuckled awkwardly.

"It's okay. I wonder why the wizarding world thinks you're an only child," Basil whispered to Harry.

"It's because of the scar. It's proof Harry survived You-Know-Who's attack," Fred and George pointed to Harry's forehead.

"Basil has the same scar as mine, but it's less noticeable," Harry lifted Basil's shirt slightly, revealing his toned chest and the faint outline of the same lightning-like scar.

Fred and George stared at Basil in awe, who blushed embarrassedly and swatted Harry's hand away, fixing his shirt.

"You didn't have to show them," Basil mumbled, playfully scolding his brother.

"Well, Fred and George needed proof too that you survived that night," Harry reasoned with a grin.

"Basil! Harry! Have you got the carts yet?" Petunia's voice interrupted from where she stood by the car.

"Ah! We better get going. It was nice meeting you," Basil changed the subject, waving goodbye as he grabbed a cart and walked away.

"It was nice meeting you, Fred, George," Harry nodded politely, waving goodbye as he grabbed a cart and followed his brother.

Fred and George watched silently as Basil and Harry walked away.

"No one's going to believe us when we tell them the Boy-Who-Lived has a twin, and they both have the same scar," Fred whispered to George.

"And did you see those muscles on Basil? If Wood saw him, he'd beg Professor McGonagall to put him on the Quidditch team. He looks like a natural Chaser," George chuckled amusedly.

"Why did you notice his muscles first?" Fred raised an eyebrow at his brother.

"Well, um... Basil's scar is less noticeable, remember?" George hastily changed the subject, grabbing a cart and sprinting towards their family.

"Hey! Wait up!" Fred called after him, grabbing a cart and following his younger brother.
