Chapter 4

"Like I said to your son and his partner earlier, any information about the prosthetics we build is strictly confidential," said the Doctor to Klaus. "Without the client's consent, I simply can't help you."

He, Five and Riley sat in the small office of the doctor Riley and Five talked to earlier.

They were trying to convince the man to give them the name of the person they were looking for.

"Well, we can't get consent if you don't give us a name," Five tried again.

"Well, that's not my problem," the doctor replied. "Sorry. Now, there's really nothing more I can do, so–"

"And what about my consent?" Klaus interrupted the doctor.

"Excuse me?"

"Who gave you permission... to lay your hands... on my son and his partner?"

"What?" Riley, Five and the Doctor asked at the same time.

"You heard me."

"I didn't touch your son or his partner."

"Oh, really? Well, then how did they both get there swollen lips, then?"

"They don't have swollen–"

Klaus didn't let the man finish speaking.

He got up, punched Five in the face.

The teenager stumbled back, holding the painful spot.

Klaus walked past him, mumbling "Sorry" and hitting Riley as well.

Or at least it seemed so.

But in reality he, of course, did not touched them.

Riley played along and stumbled back, too, pretending to hold their hurt lip.

Then Klaus truned around and inhaled sharply.

"I want it. Name, please. Now."

"You're crazy."

Klaus just chuckled and leaned on the large desk with his hands.

"You got no ideas."

His eyes fell on a small snow globe that was on the desk. He took it in his hand looked at it.

"Peace on Earth. That's so sweet."

Without warning, he slammed the snow globe into his forehead.

Everyone looked at him in shock, Riley and Five even took a step back.

"God, that hurt!" Klaus hissed.

The doctor looked at Klaus in fear and grabbed the phone.

"I'm calling secur– What are you doing?"

Klaus grabbed the receiver and held it to his ear.

"There's been an assault in Mr. Big's office, and we need security, now. Schnell," said Klaus, carelessly throwing the receiver down on the desk.

"Now, here's what's gonna happen, Grant."

"It's... Lance," the doctor corrected him.

Riley rolled their eyes. Even they was getting annoyed with the man.

"In about 60 seconds, two security guards are gonna burst through that door, and they're gonna see a whole lot of blood, and they're gonna wonder, 'What the hell happened?' And we're gonna tell them that you–", Klaus said and suddenly started to cry. "– beat the shit out of us."

In the end he sobed dramatically, still not taking his eyes of the doctor.

Riley and Five had finally understood what Klaus was planning and watched the scene with slight smiles on their lips.

"You're gonna do great in prison, Grant. Trust me, I've been there. Little piece of chicken like you. Oh, my God, you're gonna get passed around like a..." Klaus said, rolling his hips. "You're just– You're gonna do great. That's all I'm saying."

"Jesus, you are a real sick bastard."

"Thank you". Klaus said seriously and spat out a small shard of glass.

"I'll just grab the keys," said the frightened man.

"Great," mumbled Riley.

While Lance shakily fumbled for his keys, Riley turned to five.

His lip bled a little.

Riley stepped in front of him and gently wiped away the blood with their sleeve.

"Are you ok?" Five asked.

"Yes, Klaus was just pretending," Riley whispered and Five nodded.

Good for him, Five thought. He still gave his Brother a angry glare.

The doctor finally stood up and led the three to the room with all the files.

He opened a drawer and pulled out a file.

"Oh, that's strange," the doctor murmured after briefly glancing at the file.

"What?" Five asked impatiently.

"Uh, the eye. It hasn't been purchased by a client yet," the man in the white coat explained.

"What? What do you mean?" Klaus asked and stepped closer to Lance, definitely invading the other man's personal space.

"Well, uh, our logs say that the eye with that serial number– This can't be right," the doctor stuttered. "It hasn't even been manufactured yet. Where did you get that eye?"

Five did not answered the question. He took Rileys Hand, turned around and walked towards the entrance door.

"Well, this is not good," Five said as he and the others exited the building.

"I was pretty good, though, right? "Yeah. What about my consent, bitch?" Klaus celebrated himself.

Riley chuckled and shook their head in amusement.

"Klaus, it doesn't matter", Five interrupted him.

"What? What? What's the big deal with this eye, anyway?" Klaus asked.

"Guys, please stop," Riley said, but the two didn't pay attention to her.

"There is someone out there who's going to lose an eye in the next seven days. They're gonna bring about the end of life on this Earth as we know it," explained Five annoyed.

"Hello, Guys..."

"Yeah, can I get that 20 bucks, like, now, or what?" was Klaus' answer.

"Five, Klaus...", Riley said a bit louder this time.

But Five and Klaus decided to continue to argue.

"Your 20 bucks?" Five repeated. "The apocalypse is coming, and all you can think about is getting high?"

Riley gave up and sat down on the wide steps in front of the building.

"Well, I'm also quite hungry. Tummy's a-rumblin'", Klaus replied and imitated his groaning Tummy.

"You're useless," Five hissed. "You're all useless!"

"Hey!"

"Except you, Love. Of course."

Five looked at Riley and they stuck their tongues out at him.

He rolled his eyes, trying to hide his smile, while took a few steps towards them.

He stopped, when he remembered something.

"Right, I nearly forgot," said Five.

Five walked back towards Klaus and slapped in the face.

"What the–"

"You know what that was for. And if you even pretend to hurt Riley again like you did today, I'll kill you," Five threatened him.

Klaus nodded and Five turned around.

Riley stood up to check if Klaus was okay– he was.

"Oh, come on. You need to lighten up, old man."

Five sighed and sat down on the stairs.

He watched as Riley walked away from Klaus to sit down next to him.

"Hey, you know, I've just now realized why you're so uptight. All those years by yourself," Klaus said and sat down next to Five. "It's gotta screw with your head, being alone with just one other person."

"Well… we had eachother," Five replied, taking Riley's hand.

They smiled and laid their head on his shoulder.

Of course, Klaus didn't miss that and the corners of Five's mouth twitched upwards.

"Oh? Pray tell."

"We are together since we were eighteen. So nearly 40 years," explained Five.

"Forty years? Oh, wow!" Klaus said.

It was hard for him to believe that. Riley and Five didn't look a day older than thirteen and it was difficult for Klaus to realise that they will grow up... again.

Klaus will probably always see them as the thirteen-year-olds who left the academy one day to time travel.

Well, maybe he could see Five as an adult, but Riley?

"Yup," Riley said. "And we've been married for almost thirty years."

"Thirty!? God, the longest I've been with someone was… I don't know, three weeks. And that's only because I was so tired of looking for a place to–"

Five didn't let Klaus finish and jumped with Riley.

The two appeared in the back seat of a taxi and the driver turned to them in shock.

"Don't stop. Just keep going", said Five.

When they drove past Klaus, Riley saw him jump up.

He called something after them that Riley didn't understand.

Five didn't hear either or chose to ignore it and waved at Klaus.

"You're going to give him the $20, you know that, right?" Riley said, looking at Five.

~~~~
It was already dark outside and Riley found themself in a large clothing store.
"Five, what are we doing here?" Riley asked.
They followed the clothes racks with their flashlights.
"Well, you said you wanted new clothes," Five said. "So..."
He spread his arms slightly and turned in a circle.
"And why don't we go shopping during the day like everyone else and– I don't know… pay for it?"
Five let his arms fall back to his sides.
"Well, in terms of money, we have no money."
"Well then," Riley shrugged.
After all, they didn't pay for anything in the apocalypse, so why start now?
Well, obviously they wil pay future shopping trips, but right now they just wanted to get out if this school uniform.
They started looking around and quickly found some clothes they actually liked. As suddenly–
"No!"
Five jumped next to Riley and threw them to the ground milliseconds before gunshots Riley heard several gunshots.
The teenagers crawled between the clothes racks, hoping not to get hit.
Unnoticed, they were able to catch a glimpse of the shooters.
It was Cha-Cha and Hazel.
"Oh, shit! It's them," Riley murmured.
Five looked around.
"Wait here, I'll be right back."
The boy jumped and ran through the store.
As Five planed, Cha-Cha and Hazel focused on him and trying to shoot him.
But he jumped through the store every time they were close, but didn't manage to actually hurt him.
"You see that?" Riley heard Cha-Cha ask.
"You said that at least he was special. So now what?"
"You start over there, I'll go to the other end. Meet in the middle. Shoot anything that moves," Cha-Cha instructed Hazel. "The other one must be here, too."
Riley continued to crawl in one direction– towards Hazel.
At some point they turned invisible and slowly walked up to the man.
He didn't seem to realize Riley was there because he let out a surprised yell when Riley kicked the gun out of his Hand.
Before he could reach for his gun again, Riley was gone.
The teenager was now crouching between the clothes racks, walking around the store looking for Five.
Who suddenly appeared next to them.
"We have to get out of here," he murmured.
Five grabbed Riley's hand, still invisible, and tried to jump. But it didn't work.
"Shit! Come on!"
Cha-Cha and Hazel saw the two, or rather five, and shoot in their direction.
Riley tried to dodge the bullet and pulled Five towards the door.
However, they were blinded by the two assassins' flashlights. "Got him!"
At the same moment, they all heard the sound sirens.
Riley took advantage of Cha-Cha's and Hazels confusion, turned Five invisible and dragged him into a hiding spot.
"The bastard jumped again," said Hasel. "But where is the other one?"
"Gone. He distracted us so they could go. Come on, let's go."
When the two hitmen were gone, Riley and Five crawled out of hiding.
The police was already at the door and looked at the chaos, for which the teenagers were partly responsible for.
Since the two were still invisible, they simply walked past the police officers.
At a safe distance, Riley made themself and Five visible.
Five shook himself and brushed the dirt off his jacket with one hand.
"Did you really have to do that?" he asked and made a face. "You know I hate that."
The other teenager rolled their eyes.
"I'm sorry, but they would have killed us otherwise," Riley replied.
Five mumbled something Riley didn't understand. But they decided to ignore it– something they learned in 45 years apocalypse.
They were well aware that Five didn't like being invisible.
He says it felt weird, like being made out of smoke.
For Riley, however, it was normal.
They have known this feeling since they were born. It was rather strange to them that Five didn't like that.
When they were kids, they used to make themselves invisible so no one would bother them.
Everyone in the house was frantically pacing, looking for Riley, while they relaxed in their room and ate the cookies Five had brought them.
~~~~

Five and Riley arrived home exhausted. Luther and Allison met them at the top of the stairs.

"Five? Riley?" Allison asked confused. "What the hell happened to you?"

"Are you two okay? Can we help?" Luther also wanted to know.

"There's nothing you can do," Five declared. "There's nothing any of you can do."
