Chapter 10 Nickoli
"What the hell was that?" I said watching my Leader snap open his eyes, sitting cross-legged out behind Sam's house with one of her dirty shirts smothering his face.
Ignoring me, Lawrence turned to Jack, "Who is Elijah?" he asked Jack, getting up with his usual grace, keeping a death grip on her shirt.
"The only Elijah I know is an Alpha, and he is far from being reputable. Why?" Jack asked with suspicion.
Lawrence stood up still clutching Sam's shirt. "Sam said that this Elijah is second in command."
"Shit." Jack said after a minute. "It all makes sense now. We do not have the best of pasts and if he has Sam then there is no doubt in my mind he is the one responsible for Katie and Cassie's death," Jack informed us as he began to pace.
"Well she thinks he might be an ally. I tried to give her my warnings, but my connection to her was fading and I don't think she heard me," Lawrence sound distraught.
I felt more flustered as my Leader and Alpha go on so I cut them off, "What happened? How were you able to talk to her and we can't?" I asked, temper rising.
Lawrence giving me his full attention finally and explained, "When I talked to the witch I brought up Sam's ability to reflect her emotions and with some help she showed me how I might be able to communicate with Sam. That is why I needed something with her scent and why I have been meditating for the last hour. It worked, for a short time anyways. Plus my mother was a witch. Without that connection I do not think it would have worked. Did any of you feel her like that before?"
"It was different," Dmitri cut in, "I could feel her, but it was different. She felt closer almost as if she was here physically." Nods of agreements from the others, a lot of other's that never felt her presences, confirmed whatever Lawrence did increased Sam's ability.
Fear crept in as I voiced his thoughts, "If more people here felt Sam, what about this Elijah or any of his pack? Would they feel what we did being so close to her?"
"I don't know. But I think with her connection to us was the reason why more of us felt her presence," Jack said not sounding sure of his own words.
"What else did she say?" Dmitri broke the distressing silence.
Lawrence seemed to be in his own thoughts, taking a second to comprehend the question being asked. "She does not know where she is. She was told she slept for eight hours after they drugged her and from the way she felt she believed she had been in the bed she woke in for a long time. Also someone named Joseph, she knows it bothers him on how she is being treated and would probably help, but he is a submissive, and we all know what that means," he answered. Than added, "She is strong and seems to be doing alright."
Needing some time alone, I left the growing group of shifters and headed inside. Wanting to be closer to my Sam, I made my way up to her room where I closed the door and sat on her bed. The last time I saw her was in this very room. The day before the full moon where things quickly got carried away. That day she gave me permission to sleep with others. Taking her pillow, squeezing it tight against my chest, breathing her slowly fading scent from her pillow, pushing away all thoughts of what may be happening and replacing them with fond memories of our lunches and the barbeque when she passed one of my pride brother's a stick with a ball attached to it. The memory had my lips twitch into a smile, but was quickly replaced with a single tear running down my face.
"Hold on Sam, hold on sweetheart we'll be there soon," I mumbled into the pillow.
