----Jacob----
For miles , the only visible thing is brownish blackish ground and dead plants. Corpses scattered everywhere, none of them are decomposed, allowing us to see how that person died and who they were. A small pond not far from us sparkles, blood filling it.
There is no life of any form anywhere in sight.
The air is heavy, death and rotting corpses scenting it. Decayed plants fill the air with dirt and dust, making it hard to breathe. No birds chirp, no squirrels run up trees, no wind blows. Everything remains silent an still.
"So, where's this stone?" I say, fighting to not stare at the corpses..
"Is she...Is she dead?..." Simon asks Sam weakly, and he nods, not taking his eyes off of the dead girl in front of them.
Jay, unphased, walks forward, holding his necklace tightly. I start to follow, but a movement catches my eye.
My father stands, watching me.
----Simon----
I can't believe my eyes.
Lindsey, our little sister, stand above all the corpses, the end of her ragged, white dress stained with blood.
"S-Sam...Is that really..."
"No...It can't...I-it's an illusion..."
She takes a few steps towards us, her dress flowing with her every step, her body fully grown.
"Sam, Simon, how'd you get here?"
"Y-you...You're alive!" I say, running towards her but Sam grabs my arm.
"She's not real Simon, don't let it trick you." He says, looking at the ground, not daring to look at her. His grip is weaker than normal and I pull my arm away.
"Simon." I snap my attention back to Lindsey. "Don't listen to him. I am real."
"But...How?"
"Never said I was alive. I'm real though."
"Then how are you here? Talking?"
"Don't trust her Simon. Don't trust anything in this realm." Sam says, but I ignore him. I'm not throwing away my chance to talk to my sister.
"That doesn't matter Simon. What matters is I'm here," she says, walking closer to me. "But I don't understand."
"Don't understand what?"
"Why didn't you save me?"
My heart stops. "I-I tried! I--"
"Not talking to you, I know you wanted to. Why didn't you let him save me Sam? We could've been together forever. The three of us. We could've lived with our parents, happy. Why did you stop him from letting all that happen Sam?"
"Wait, you're blaming Sam?"
"She's trying to get us to turn against each other, don't let her do it. She's not real. Not real." His voice shakes, and I'm not sure if he's trying to convince himself or me.
"Oh Sam, I'm real." She traces his cheek with her hand. "I'm your sister, and you let me down."
"Stop."
"Why? Are you going to run away, like you did from me? Do you know how it feels to die? To be torn apart as wolves eat you alive? To know that someone could save you, but someone stopped them? To have your flesh being torn off piece by piece until your just bones?"
"You're not real." He grits his teeth.
"Sam. Look me in the eyes and tell me I'm fake," Lindsey says, walking in front of Sam.
He looks up at her.
"Well? Tell me I'm fake. Do it."
He steps back, breaking eye contact with her, a tear landing on the hand of a corpse under him.
"You can't do it, can you?"
"Sam? Why did you do it?" I ask.
His breathing loses stability. "Simon, don't you dare make this conversation worse."
Lindsey turns to me. "Oh Simon." She brushes her fingers through my hair. "You've blamed yourself haven't you?"
"I--"
"Shh." She puts her finger on my lips. "It's not you're fault. You see, you have a tough time dealing with my death, does Sam?"
Sams face slowly turns red, tears drowning the corpses.
"You, Simon, care," She says, running he fingers down my jaw. "I forgive you. But Sam..."
She turns back to him.
"I don't." She lifts her hand up to him, but he pushes it away. "He denies me. He held you back from saving me and hasn't ever regretted it."
"Yes, e--"
"No, no, no Sam. You don't get to explain. It's too late."
"Kill me," He says, looking up at her. "Simon's going to hate me, so end it now. Everything I do is for him, but he'll hate me, so there's no use. Kill me."
"Oh, no, no, no." She grabs his hands, and wraps his arms around herself. "You deserve to suffer." She kisses him on his tear-stained cheek, smiles, then evaporates.
He falls to the ground, his legs too weak to hold him. Tears pour out of him, a never-ending tidal wave of misery.
"Sam?" I say quietly. "I don't hate you."
That doesn't stop the tears from falling to the corpses, one of their hands moving.
One of their hands moving.
Sam jumps up, staring at the hand, his body still shaking with sobs. "This place th-thrives o-on misery..."
I grab his arm and pull him to me, hugging him. If he's right, the first thing we need to do is fix the damage fake-Lindsey has done.
He twists out of my grasp and steps back, unease filling his eyes.
That's when it hits me.
Nobody's ever been there for him. Everyone expects him to be fine, he's the one that comforts everyone else, nobody thinks he needs anyone.
When in reality, he's the one who needs someone the most.
"Just accept my god damn hug Sam, a truce." (Sorry for swearing)
That earned me a weak smile and taking that as an ok, I hug him and this time he doesn't fight back.
----Jacob----
Lily and I stand back to back, our nightmares in front of us.
"Jacob?"
"Yeah?"
"Lavender can kill us in seconds."
"My father would hand us over to her without batting an eye."
"Should we just run for it?"
"Probably our best bet."
Grabbing my hand, she sprints in the direction Jay went.
"Before we find Jay, I have to tell you this," I say.
"Tell me what?"
"I'm going to die." (DUN DUN DUN!!!)
"What?"
----Jay----
The faster I find the stone, the faster we leave. Nowhere, in this black abyss of bodies is a stone.
"Alex," A familiar voice says behind me, and I jump, turning to face Nico.
"How are you here?"
He holds up a blue rock, it's surface glowing. I reach out to grab it, but he pulls it away. "Not so fast there buddy, we gotta talk first."
I look down, obeying.
"So, I'm not the bad guy."
I fight the urge to laugh at him and say he is.
"Elliot is."
"Ok, that's fake. Nope. The stone's not worth it."
"Wait! Let me explain."
I stand still.
"Let's start from the beginning? I would say have a seat, but...You know...Bodies."
I cross my arms, glaring at him.
"Ok, ok, jeez. I'll start. You...I use to be gay. Elliot was my boyfriend, and we had you, ok?"
Biologically impossible.
"I thought he was a good guy, until he started beating me. He was going to hurt you, so I helped you leave. I thought you'd be safer, but that was until Elliot hit me and told me to take you to that cell."
Fake.
"I broke up with him...But he threatened my new family, with my wife and three kids...I would do anything for them, so I did as he said. He wanted you to see him as a father figure, so he made me seem like the boss and bad guy."
That's because you are the bad guy.
"You know how you escaped because the door was unlocked? I unlocked it. Elliot wasn't almost shot, he was the shooter. He tried to shoot me. Jay, you have to believe me!"
"How can you have a son with two gays?"
"We adopted you...I thought he was ready but...I misjudged him."
"So if I was chosen by anyone else, I would've had a fine life?"
"Yes. Jay, I'm sorry, Elliot knows how to manipulate people. He manipulated me, used me to get what he wanted. How do you think he has those acronyms?"
"Because he's the educator, he works there."
"Why would the educator need to know when it's going to be a pk day or an xpk day? He's not the educator, Jay. He's the boss. That's why the guard doesn't argue when he asks to see you."
"You...You're lying."
"No, I'm really not. I know you won't forgive me for what I did, but you had to know."
"This is just a joke..."
"Jay, he's telling the truth," Jacob says, running with Lily towards us.
"Right on time Jake," he pulls out a gun, tosses me the stone, and shoots Jacob. Blood seeps out of his side, staining the grey corpses.
I look back at Nico, but he's gone. I cover my mouth with my hand, staring at Jacob's lifeless body.
Lily takes my hand. "Come on Jay, let's go."
Unable to tear my eyes away from him, Lily drags me away.
"Do you not care that he just got shot?"
"Yes I care, but this place thrives on misery. Luckily for me, death doesn't phase me. I didn't even cry when my aunt died. We need to leave."
My words get caught in my throat, leaving me with no choice but to follow Lily out of this place. We stumble through the portal, barely keeping balanced when we land on the other side, Sam and Simon sitting in the corner watching.
"Where's Jacob?" Simon asks.
Neither of us answer.
"Oh..."
"Are you ok, Sam?" Lily asks, the red around Sams eyes the only evidence needed to know he's not.
"I'm fine," He says, his voice weak and broken.
"Our sister came back from the dead and said she blamed Sam for her death, how's your day?" Simon says.
"And I'm adopted," I say, my mind spinning.
IK! TWO IN ONE NIGHT! But it's done and I just have to!
Now, clearly we're nearing the end. If you want a sequel, you better speak up before this ends. When I'm done writing this, I'll be editing and refining, so yeah. This is not the final thing, not at all. I just needed to get it down.
Anyway, vote, comment, share, etc.
