Lost in the Crowd

"Excuse me! Sorry! Excuse me!" Shouted Eloise while running through the bustling crowd in her formal attire and high heels, bumping into people and bringing chaos to the noisy streets of the city.

She was running late for her first ever job interview and the traffic defintely wasn't on her side, forcing her get off the taxi she was riding just 5 minutes ago.

She kept on running, ignoring the glances people were giving her and the angry shouts of the people she bumped into.

After running for what felt like hours, she released a sigh of relief when she finally saw the company building which was now accross the street. She glanced at her wrist watch and grinned when she saw that she still had 10 minutes before the interview started.

While waiting for the human-shaped street light to turn green, she brought out her mirror and fixed any imperfection she saw. When she was finally satisfied, she raised her head, took a deep breath, and fixed her posture.

And when the light turned green, she joined the crowd of people crossing the road with full confidence. While crossing, she took the time to look around the place since she was still new to the city and everything was unfamiliar to her.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!" She apologized when she bumped into someone's shoulder and turned to see his face. When their eyes finally met, it felt as if time stopped and they were the only ones in the world. She just froze in place as she stared straight into his eyes.

Standing in front of her was the most handsome man she ever saw in her entire life dressed in a black formal suit and tie. He looked especially hot as he wore a silver watch and was holding a suitcase, causing him to flex his muscles and make his veins move evident. But his devilishly handsome appearance wasn't the issue, it was his eyes.

For some reason, she felt drawn to his blue eyes which reminded her of an ocean, drowning her and making her forget how to breathe.

Beautiful yet mysterious, that was the aura that his eyes gave of, just like the sea and sky on that certain summer day buried deep down in Eloise's memories.

A bittersweet feeling filled her heart as she reminisced the good old days. It was as if she was brought back to the best moments of her life: when she was young and in love.

She could vividly remember the bright  smiles and she could almost hear the sound of the laughter they shared as they ran around the beach barefooted and just had fun without a care in the world.

Those were really happy memories. But that was all it was now. Memories she can look back on but never return to.

The man just gave her a small smile and nod before breaking the eye contact and walking away.

It was as if time resumed and the noise from the cars and the crowd could be heard again, reminding her about her interview.

She forced herself to take a step forward and reminded herself that whatever connection they once had was now gone and all that remained were memories they could never forget. Now, they were merely strangers who shared a past.

Without even taking 3 steps away, she couldn't help but turn her head around to catch a glance of the man one last time.

The world didn't fail her because exactly when she looked back, she caught the man doing the same.

They exchanged meaningful smiles before going their separate ways as if saying their final goodbye to the person they once loved.

With each step they took, they slowly walked away from each other's life; getting lost in the crowd and never finding their way back.
