Summer arrived with its sweltering and scorching heat. Arima longed to see that pesky little girl again. Since receiving the ice cream jar from Agate's hands, she had stopped writing on her blog because only when she was sad would she pour her thoughts into that reclusive place.
In a couple of months, the summer vacation began. The oppressive heat descended like a heavy curtain, announcing summer's official arrival. Birds chirped with renewed vigor in the long, sun-drenched days. Laughter echoed from open windows as students reveled in the freedom from school bells. The scent of sunscreen and freshly cut grass hung heavy in the air, a delightful reminder of lazy afternoons spent basking in the sun's warmth. Summer, with its carefree spirit and vibrant energy, had undeniably begun.
Arima eagerly awaited the day her class's school duty started. Her class had to clean the schoolyard for a week in July, and only then could she see her pink-haired friend again.
The first day of her class's school duty week passed, as did the second, the third, and the remaining days.
Seven days had passed! Her class's school duty week was over. However, Arima could not meet Agate because she was absent all seven days. Arima did not even bother to ask anyone about her absence. She did not even care about the conversations of other crews in her class about a classmate who was about to transfer. Arima just kept secretly waiting for Agate to show up.
XX/XX/XX
It's been almost 5 weeks... since I last saw her. Is there something wrong with me, Arima? I'm starting to think about her more and more. It has to be at least five more weeks before I can see her beautiful eyes again... You miss her too, right?
...
ag4t3: Have you started to like someone?
Arima: Not really...
ag4t3: Come on, I'm your secret best friend. Tell me what's going on. Is there anything I can do to help?
Arima: It's just... I want to see her.
ag4t3: What if she's not at school anymore?
Arima: What are you talking about?
ag4t3: Never mind... You seem to be getting along better with your mom lately.
Arima: Yeah, she's been treating me better.
Unexpectedly, a few fleeting thoughts crossed Arima's mind. She wondered if Agate really had transferred away. As the class monitor, Arima could call her homeroom teacher and ask about this. But that would not be like her at all...
