"Today, our class will welcome a new student!" The homeroom teacher announced as he entered the classroom.
"Uhm... Hello everyone... I'm a new student. My name is Agate. My family used to live in England, and I just moved back here. I hope you guys will help me out. Thank you."
The class erupted into a frenzy as the lovely new student appeared. She had pink hair, fair skin, and stunning round eyes. Her rosy lips were pursed into a bright smile, captivating all the boys below. There were no doubts that many boys would fall in love with her after today. The only one who was not noticing this girl was Arima. She was looking out the window. Arima did not care about the new student, nor did she care about what was happening. But only when she vaguely heard her teacher say Agate would sit with her did she look at him in surprise. Then, she peaked at the new student.
"What the heck is this? I've always sat alone before!" She thought in frustration and quickly said, "Sir, I object. There are still many empty seats!"
"Agate is a new student. Help her integrate into the class, Arima. That's the class monitor's job."
Knowing that there was nothing she could do, Arima reluctantly accepted her new deskmate and continued to focus on the notebook on her desk.
Some weeks later, Agate stayed after school to ask the homeroom teacher to change seats.
"Can you tell me the reason, Agate?"
"It seems that Arima doesn't like sitting with me. She's terrifying!" Agate told the teacher, tears streaming down her cheeks. Her voice showed a hint of disappointment, "We've been sitting together for about a month, but Arima hasn't talked to me. She doesn't want to be friends with me, either. I don't want to be loathed by her..."
"Do you know something, Agate? Arima has never been close or opened up to anyone. I'm still hoping a new student like you will be a new breeze to change her..."
"But it's so hard!" Agate exclaimed.
"I know. But can you try a little harder, please?"
"Can I?"
"You're a good girl, Agate. Just tell me if you need more help."
Agate nodded, then smiled brightly to cheer up her teacher, "Well... I'll try my best. You can count on me!"
"I always believe in you. Now go home, Algate. It's late."
At that moment, the sun began to set, casting long shadows across the landscape. Agate and her teacher stood facing each other, their hands intertwined in a farewell gesture.
