Chapter 5
Linnea was absolutely stunning in her lovely outfit. Her long, smooth and shiny brown hair was slightly curled. It drifted over her broad shoulders in a heavenly way, making her look like a goddess. Her agile ocean blue eyes sparkle, in the sun looking so intoxicating. I got out slowly from the car and walked up with my hands tucked in my pockets trying to look as casual as possible.
Their house was so large compared to our one story house and was a nice and welcoming shad of blue unlike ours which was an off-white. Through the window, I could almost make out her sister Madi leaning against the front door watching her sister leave to go off on her first date, which was with me.
"Hello Linnea." I greeted with a smile," You look very pretty tonight," I examined her again as I glanced down at her shiny and pink lip glossed lips, which led to her fancy blue and brown colored earrings that almost matched her dress perfectly.
Linnea giggled with a blush, " Thank you." I watched her carefully as her long brown hair blew in the breeze.
She grabbed my hand with a quick squeeze and we strolled over to my car. Wait, I'm sorry, let me say that again, she grabbed my hand.
"Wow, this is one really nice car." She commented as she scanned the car, he mouth slighting gaping as she did so.
"Thanks, I wish it was mine but it isn't since it's my dad's." I responded feeling somewhat crestfallen that it wasn't my own. She reminded silent as I held the door open for her.
We buckled our seatbelts while I shoved the key into the car, the engine revved as I pushed my foot against the petal. Linnea jumped in shock, making me stifle a laugh as she did so.
"You ready?" I asked as I kept my strong and firm grip on her hand while gazing into her alluring blue eyes.
"Yeah, I am." She nodded as she quickly waved 'bye to Madi and we hopped into the car.
As we backed out of her long driveway, I prayed silently to myself that this would hopefully be the best date ever.
"So, uh, have you been to Fig Tree before?" I asked breaking the silence between us. I still was concentrating directly at the road but I made sure to listen to Linnea as well.
"Yeah, I'm pretty sure, but I think I was around the age of ten or so." Linnea admitted as she started rummaging for something through her teal purse.
"Cool." I replied, everything went silent, except for Kanye's rapping from the radio. I decided to be a man and start up a conversation with her," So, uh, who do you babysit for again?"
" Oh, well, I babysit this kid named Grayson, he's two years old and he lives a few doors down from us." Linnea spoke, sliding her sunglasses on and reapplying lip stick," I haven't babysat for him for a while since they just had a baby but hopefully I can babysit soon."
"Nice," I added as we pulled into the Fig Tree parking lot which was already super packed, "Oh, well, here we are!" I exclaimed, turning into our parking space as I squeezed the mustang between an old Honda on my left and a red truck on my right.
The scenery was truly magnificent here since the palm trees swayed slowly in the cool wind and the refreshing ocean breeze felt so refreshing on my clean face. I could even feel my brown hair flowing in different directions. I scanned the parking lot, noticing that The Fig Tree restaurant was very busy but I am happy I reserved a spot for us.
"Wow, this is so pretty!" Linnea commented in awe. Linnea stood there starring at the ocean and then finally she looked back at me," I-I, wow. . ." Linnea looked around, feeling extremely awestruck at the sight of everything.
"No kidding, lets go inside before we turn ninety," I theorized with a laugh as I put a gentle hand on her back to motion for her to walk inside. As we walked into the restaraunt there was loud prattling and in the background, Lush Life, was playing. I couldn't help but to notice Linnea quietly humming along. Suddenly, the family before us left to find a spot with a waiter and soon it was up to me to talk to the waitress.
"Hi, um, I reserved a spot under Coo." I described as I could feel my face getting hot from the awkwardness.
I honestly hated my last name since it sounded so stupid. A fun fact about my last name was that it was shortened by my great grandparents because there was some rich guy living in the same neighborhood as them. My great grandparents didn't want to get mixed up with there name so they shortened in to a Coo. The original name was Coortane, which I believe was German.
"Table for two?" The lady asked as she looked at both me and Linnea intensely, waiting for a response. Linnea shot me a look and I looked back at her, offering her a warm smile.
"Yes please." I replied as I fixed my black tie solemnly, following the waitress down the many rows of tables and booths.
"Right this way." The lady escorted as she took us through a crowd of men by a bar and then through a more tranquil area where an assortment of bouquets were placed.
Soon, we sat down in a comfortable spot by a window and almost immediately, a waitress came over and handed us menus.
"Hi, I'm Brielle, I'll be taking your order today." She informed with a kind smile as she examined the both of us," what would you like to drink today?" She turned her gaze to me first and I looked down at the menu, not knowing what to have.
"Hmm, what do you have?" I inquired as I scanned through the menu trying to find a drink or an appetizer that looks appealing.
"We have all Pepsi products, beer, lemonade, water...." She informed as she examined the menu that I was looking through, trying to help me decide what to drink.
"You know what? I'll take a Pepsi." I ordered as I shut my menu, placing it on the table and looked at Linnea.
"Oh, uh, I will have a Pepsi too." She responded with a smile as she looked at the waitress, watching her as she jotted down everything we had just ordered.
"Alright, we will be right back with your order." She replied as she strolled away to the back of the restaurant.
Linnea was currently picking at her straw wrapper and I was clueless on what to do or say. My decision was to look around the place, so that is what I did.
Surprisingly, there was a lot of young couples there but of course there was a majority of families too. I looked around at all of the paintings and decor on the walls of the restaurant. If there were never any paintings or decor I think the restaraunt would be so bland unless they painted the walls blue or something more bright and bubbly unlike beige.
"Wow you really know your spots!" Linnea remarked with a smile as she gave me a playful nudge. I was quite thankful she had broken the awkward silence between us.
" Haha, thanks." I replied laughing and gazing out of the window. I turned to glance at the ocean, but looking at it made me even more thirsty for my Pepsi so I turned my attention to Linnea instead. Then, the waitress, Brielle, came over handing us our drinks. Once she placed my drink in front of me, I took a long and refreshing swig of Pepsi and let out a sigh of satisfaction.
Brielle asked us what we wanted so we ordered pizza since Linnea and I wanted to share it. After she left, Linnea and I had a long conversation about school, college, what are plans were for the future, and so much more. To be honest, I just felt like I really got to know Linnea so much better after we talked for a little bit.
"So, do you like just cheese on your pizza?" I asked Linnea, who was calmly starring at the ocean and the dolphin families happily jumping along the waves.
"Yeah, I pretty much hate all the other toppings, to me they are super gross. Except for pepperoni or sausage, those are okay I guess." Linnea answered taking a sip of her soda.
"Yeah, same here." I agreed with a nod as I looked down at my folded hands, not knowing what to say or do next.
All of a sudden Linnea looked up at me, her eyes suddenly hooked on to mine. Her beautiful blue eyes just totally made me lose track of where we were and what we were doing. I slowly began to lean in to kiss her but then suddenly Linnea leaned back and looked to the right, then back at me again. A look of embarrassment came over her face and I looked over to and there was the waitress. Linnea was blushing a lot and then so did I.
" Um, excuse me? Your pizza sir" The waitress said for the fifth time, looking quite embarrassed herself for what she almost encountered.
" Oh thanks, I'm really sorry about that." I commented, my cheeks still as red as a pepper from that scenario.
"Oh it's no big deal, I see this a lot." Brielle answered with a hearty laugh as she grabbed our menus from us, walking back into the kitchen.
" Sorry I..." Linnea excused as she looked shyly away from me, ignoring my stare as much as possible.
" No it's not you, it's me. Your just so beautiful. . . I mean. . ." I stuttered. Crap, I had just told Linnea that she's beautiful on our very first date? Well, maybe I had gone a little too far by calling her beautiful three times in one day, but I don't know. She hasn't said anything about it thankfully.
Linnea's eyes where gigantic, full of shock, happiness, and confusion at the same time as she let me comment sink in for a moment.
"Thank you, Ethan." Linnea responded in mid-bite. It confused me that she didn't smile or anything to acknowledge what I had said.
Oh god, did she hate me now or something? What did I do?
Ethan stop-
Before I could leap into more conclusions, smile spread across her face and her cheeks were pink. I smiled in relief as I watched her glisten ecstatically.
"You know, Ethan, that sunset is really beautiful." Linnea awed after she had finished her fourth piece of pizza.
Her vigilant eyes were glued on to the swaying palm trees and the sand blowing smoothly across the shore and the superb vibrant colors of the sunset behind the ocean.
"Yeah, it really is." I agreed looking at Linnea with a small smile but then, I guess I was so unprepared for what happened next.
She looked up at me and flashed me a smile. Her smile was extremely appealing, and this time, it was a real smile.
AN//Lol this is currently my favorite song at the moment. It really helps when I am studying or something.
