Sarah!

My mother's loud voice

woke me right out of my sleep

and my bedroom door shook violently

as her fists pounded against the wood.

It was at that moment that Virginia sprung awake, too.

Stay right here. And pretend you're sleeping. Okay?

I whispered to her

as my mom's voice pierced our earbuds.

Coming mom.

I said louder,

before climbing out of bed.

I made my way to the doorway in a few strides

and hurriedly unlocked it.

My mom's impatient and annoyed face was revealed

as I opened up the door.

Morning mother.

I muttered, rubbing my eyes.

I've been calling you down forever.

Keep your door-

Her voice cut off as her eyes made their way past my head

and to my bed.

Sarah Margarita Rodriguez,

that better not be a boy in your bed.

She spoke harshly

as she navigated around me.

With a frown on my face,

I turned around to face my mom.

It's not, mom.

It's my friend.

Her name's Virginia.

My mom froze at this,

before slowly looking under the covers.

As Virginia's face came into view,

I saw her soft features display her deep sleep.

And might I say,

she was doing a great job at this trickery.

The sound of my mother's soft squealing spread across my room

as she excitedly faced me.

You have a friend?

The smile on her face was great

and I couldn't help but return it.

Yes, mom.

I have a friend.

And as she bounced around me,

she gripped my shoulders and said,

Tell her when she wakes up that breakfast is downstairs and ready.

I'll see you two there!

After mom closed the doorway behind her,

Virginia's head peeked out from under the blanket.

So I'm guessing not many people come over miss Margarita?

She said with a teasing smile,

and rolling my eyes,

I responded with a simple

Shut up.

But she only grinned.

Don't fret about it.

It's a privilege to be of so much importance to your mom.

She winked at me,

and my face flushed red.

What is she doing to me?
