XLIV
Hey.
I looked up to see Lucas rubbing his eyes.
I gave him a soft smile
before looking down at my phone.
Hey,
I said back
while watching Virginia laugh
as that same boy from the party
planted a kiss on her cheek.
What are you watching?
Luke asked
and I quickly shut off my phone.
Nothing, really.
Just Virginia's story.
I blinked harshly.
She's got a boyfriend now.
It was silent for a second
before Luke let out a sigh.
You've got to let her go, Sarah.
She's not worth it.
Tears stung in my eyes.
I swallowed the knot in my throat.
I know.
I whispered.
But it's so hard.
My hands shook as I placed my phone by my side.
I felt my face beginning to heat up
as I tried to push back the flood behind my eyes.
Not a moment later,
I was enveloped in warmth as Luke
wrapped his arms around me.
Letting out the pain and frustration that was buried inside me,
I clutched onto Luke's waist
and allowed my tears to escape
and stain the top of his shirt.
