"WHAT'S GOING ON HERE?" Ema screeched, bursting into the room at full speed and almost stumbling over Phoenix - who was collapsed and bawling his eyes out on the floor beside the doorway. Her eyes flitted from the bruised, weak defence attorney to the ongoing wrestling match between the kidnapper and Edgeworth. She hastily gestured to the police officers behind her;
"You lot separate those 2! I'll deal with the defence attorney!" The forensic scientist called out, instantly kneeling beside Phoenix and shaking him gently to make sure he was conscious.
"Mr Wright?"
"Nn.."
"Mr Wriiight...?"
"M-Ms.. Sk..." The defence attorney stammered, giving up and breathing out heavily as he reached the first syllable of her surname, feeling physically unable to say anything more. Ema took that as an affirmation that he was awake and alive. The forensic scientist instantly set to work in checking his temperature and other important details, ignoring the chaos ensuing approximately 10 centimetres away from them.

"LET ME AT HIM!" The prosecutor growled, predatory aggression flickering in his eyes, as the kidnapper kicked his knee-caps before they were pulled apart by members of the police force, contorting their bodies as they struggled in an attempt to attack each other again.
"MS SKYE!" One of the police officers shouted;
"IT WOULD BE BLOODY BRILLIANT IF YOU COULD DRUG THAT GUY WITH THAT STUFF... UH.. WHAT WAS IT AGAIN, STEVE?" The police officer glanced questioningly at the other man, presumably named 'Steve'.
"I DUNNO! I THINK IT WAS DORMOUSE ECSTATIC? OR WAS IT ECSTATIC DORMOUSE?"
"Dormient Extasia." Ema rolled her eyes, delving into her pocket and swiftly producing an injection needle.
"Jab him with this once and it should do the trick!" She shouted, passing the drug to 'Steve's co-worker.

.... The injection seemed to do the trick.

Within moments, the kidnapper had fallen limp in the police officers' arms, and the prosecutor stopped struggling and finally paid attention to his boyfriend - who was being attended to by Ema.
"Hand-cuff him." The forensic scientist nodded to the police officers, who responded quickly by hand-cuffing the unconscious kidnapper and straddling him downstairs. They let the prosecutor go. Edgeworth blinked.

That was it? That was all it took?

He let out a small laugh at the sincere simplicity of it all. Sure, he'd gotten a few scratches, but nothing serious...
"I don't see what's so funny.." Ema remarked as she untied the defence attorney's bound wrists, which elicited no response from the poor victim.
"Ms Skye, how is he?" Edgeworth skipped over to his unresponsive boyfriend's side, kneeling beside him and frantically feeling his freezing-cold neck for a pulse.

It was certainly there, thank goodness, beneath his icy-cold skin.

"I'm not sure yet, but we ought to get him to the van asap. He's likely to catch hypothermia in this state - he's so dead cold! And besides, once he's in the van with all my equipment, I can start to run proper tests on him."
"Thank you, but... Could you give us a moment?"
"Sure. Follow me down whenever you're ready." The forensic scientist left the room, meaning Edgeworth could finally let his formal barrier down and just be himself with his boyfriend.

"Phoenix..." He whispered soothingly into the defence attorney's ears, brushing some of his out-of-place strands of black hair back as he cradled his boyfriend on his lap.
"Mmnngh.." Phoenix groaned, shuddering slightly and hugging himself against the temperature.
"Are you cold?" Edgeworth gently caressed his boyfriend's numb cheek, planting a light kiss upon his forehead.
"They left you practically naked for all this time, didn't they?" The prosecutor's eyes darted across Phoenix's badly bruised, scarred, blood-smeared and bitten body with a bitter, bitter feeling stirring in his stomach.

They abused him.

They treated him like a stray dog, a sex-toy, a lifeless slab of meat.
"What did they do to you, you poor thing..." A tear trickled down Edgeworth's cheek, followed by a whole flood as he buried his head in Phoenix's bloody, bare chest. His tears streamed down in artistic patterns as they caressed the pale canvas - the defence attorney's sore flesh. The only sounds emanating throughout the room at this point were the faint sobs of the prosecutor, and the occasional patting of his boyfriend's own tears softly hitting the floor as he carefully wound his wavering arms around Edgeworth's torso, still upon his lap, clinging on for dear life. The prosecutor sorrowfully laughed through his tears as he felt the comforting sensation of his boyfriend's arms around him;
"Even though you're the one that was hurt the most," Edgeworth sniffed;
"You're still the one comforting me.. You idiot..." His heart melted as Phoenix's previously dulled, lidded, eyes finally opened fully as he made an effort to get a good look at the prosecutor, a wan smile flickering upon his lips.
"I-I'm so glad... Th-That you were the one... Wh-Who saved me..."
"I'm glad too.. That I got to save you.." The prosecutor lightly nuzzled Phoenix's soft lips with his own, asking for entry which the defence attorney seemed to be too tired to oppose, and they slowly, sensually, kissed - a rare sensation for either of them. Normally, their kisses would be rapidly delivered, long-lived and ferocious, a tangle of tongues within their mouths, however, right now, the sensation was entirely different. It was shorter-lived and more gentle, clearly portraying the prosecutor's relief and sympathy for his loved one, allowing them to both savour the taste of the other's mouth before gently parting, the warm, fuzzy, sensation of the other's lips upon their own lingering along with the various aromas drifting around the room.
"I love you so much..." Edgeworth carefully nursed Phoenix's limp body into his arms, cradling him close to his chest, a smile lighting up his face as he felt the defence attorney's hands move around his torso as he was moved to ensure that he was still within his grasp. Phoenix didn't know why but, all of a sudden, he felt like the only reassurance he had in the world was that of the reassurance he obtained through clutching Edgeworth as tightly as he could, and never letting go.

It was the only thing that made him feel safe.
