"Woah, woah, woah, hold up there, buddy." Ema finally decided to back Edgeworth up and stood beside the, suddenly stiff and unmoving, prosecutor.
"I said.. NOBODY MOVE." The kidnapper rose Phoenix slightly higher, lifting him toward the open window.
"Don't you dare... You.. Wouldn't dare..." Edgeworth became possessed by fury, trying his best to quash the hurricane of panic, jealousy and sorrow within him. The defence attorney's heart raced abnormally fast, squirming slightly as he felt a cool breeze brush his cheeks. He wasn't really sure what was going on but, from Edgeworth's sudden slightly panicked tone of voice, he could tell it wasn't good. Clementine stayed firmly planted at the top of the staircase.
"You want him alive, don't you? If you truly value his life, you won't call for backup." The kidnapper hissed as he noticed Ema discreetly reach for a pocket in her immaculate white jacket.
"He got me there," She commented.
"He wouldn't do it." Edgeworth blankly responded, a distinctive desperation and fear forming in the pit of his stomach. The kidnapper chuckled to himself sarcastically;
"Oh, so you really want to test me? Even at his expense? You truly must be a devil." The man tapped the defence attorney's temple, causing him to flinch amidst his cold sweat;
"Hear that, Pheenie? Your precious Edgeworth doesn't give a single crap about you." Edgeworth narrowed his eyes, on the verge of lunging forward and pushing the man out of window;
"Don't you DARE plant ideas like that in my Phoenix's head! Do you hear me? DON'T YOU DARE!" The prosecutor yelled.
"Hmph." The kidnapper's mouth formed a mean smirk, much to Edgeworth's annoyance;
"How disappointing."
"What."
"Didn't everyone praise you so highly? Didn't they all call you honourable things such as 'intelligent' and 'disciplined'? Didn't they promote you to 'Chief Prosecutor'?" The man shook his head in amusement.
"So what?" Edgeworth snarled, more than ready, by this point, to snatch his boyfriend out of this devil's arms.
"It's just that you've hardly got anything to show for it." The kidnapper snorted;
"I mean, for someone so almighty - with such 'godly powers' and influence over the law... You're nothing really, aren't you?" Phoenix tensed, another tear streaming down his cheeks before dissolving in the fabric, a few restless sobs escaping his lips as he was forced to listen to these meaningless insults which were directed at the prosecutor. He was powerless, though.

He couldn't talk back, or he'd be punished. He couldn't move too much, or he'd be punished. It was torturously ironic. A truly defenceless defence attorney.

"All these people bowing down to you... A perfectly good defence attorney right under your thumb.. Don't you ever feel guilty? Guiltier than all those poor victims you placed a guilty sentence on, I mean."
"Why should I feel guilty for doing my job?" The prosecutor folded his arms. A psychological approach, huh. Those kinds of gimmicks definitely worked on Phoenix's mindset, but Edgeworth? Edgeworth was a little tougher.
"Well..." The kidnapper smiled openly;
"Perhaps because.... You're an idiot." He stated fondly, bringing Phoenix back beside his chest, away from the window.
"Excuse me?" Edgeworth blinked in shock. No, he wasn't offended... He was confused. Why was he suddenly so joyful? Why was-

"MR.EDGEWORTH, SIR!" Ema cried out, flailing her arms about crazily;
"DON'T BREATHE IT iN..."
"BREATHE WHAT!"
"tHe AiR.. hE... g-GaSsEd iT.." The forensic scientist began to feel a little woozy, stumbling about clumsily as she frantically searched for a support to hold. Now that the prosecutor thought about it, he was beginning to feel a little drowsy nearer the end of the conversation.. From approximately the point that the kidnapper said:
"You're an idiot."

Wait.

Did he say that? No... The prosecutor was sure he heard him say that. Edgeworth frowned. His boyfriend.. Where was he..? His boyfriend.. Who was he again..? The prosecutor widened his eyes as the dull perspective of the world in front of him presented him with the image of that man... And his man.. Leaving..

They were running away..

Edgeworth cursed, although he couldn't hear himself anymore, and tried his best to pursue them, but his legs were like lead. He heard a faint voice behind him as it fell silent with a soft thud;
"wHeRe iS cLeMeNtInE....." No.. He couldn't go back to aid that woman.. They were getting away.. The prosecutor covered his mouth with his aching hands which were attached to his aching arms - far too late. His vision was dulling even more. He cried out in suppressed frustration and heartache as he felt his body begin to fail him, overriding his commands with a speedy 'shut down' against his will.
"PhEe... NiX..." He reached out in a final futile attempt as he collided with the ground, his grey hair dancing in the sudden rush of air, taunting him.

It was all gone. The hope. His hope. It had all disappeared along with a certain spiky haired man. A tear streamed down his cheek as he stared at a bleak yellow wall for a few seconds before being submerged in the murky waters of darkness.

It couldn't end like this, could it?
