Prologue

This book is inspired from the stories of @YunaReinhart's "Black Dahlia" and @Vivian_Henituse's "In Another Life".

Both stories are great! Thank you so much for writing such amazing stories!

The sky was gray and the thunder roared. It was a perfect day to execute the sinner named Cale Henituse, the firstborn son of the Henituse Family. The people threw rocks and spat curses at him and yet the red-haired man looked cold as he stared at the sky. He couldn't understand what he had done wrong. He couldn't identify the reason why he kept dying from the hands of the people he cared, loved, saved and protected.

Did I really commit atrocious crimes in my past life for the gods to punish me like this? Cale thought. He was already devoid of any emotion. The rocks hit him on his forehead and bled.

In my nineteenth regression, I hid and only supported the heroes from the shadows. Yet, I am, once again, standing in this platform waiting for the verdict to pass for me to meet my own death, Cale continued on his thoughts as the knight forcefully made him kneel.

Cale looked around and there he saw his biological father, who was looking at him with his eyes that says he doesn't want to call him his son. Then, his eyes landed on his butler whom he trusted and treated as a second father. Next to him was the person he treated as an older brother. After him was the prince, now Emperor, whom he loved with all his heart and soul. Next was the children he loved dearly from his first life to his nineteenth regression. And lastly, his eyes landed on the hero Choi Han, whom he treated well after his second regression. He treated the black-haired swordsman as his best friend. However, all of them were looking at him with so much animosity and disgust. He tried to find the reason why he was standing on this platform once again, but he failed to spot him.

I guess he wasn't healed yet, Cale thought as his eyes were looking for Kim Rok Soo, another older brother figure.

During the final battle with the Sealed God, Cale and Kim Rok Soo teamed up to reseal the God of Despair. They desperately tried to do so as they were mortals, it wasn't easy to seal a god even if its real powers were suppressed. As soon as they resealed the God of Despair, he said words as if it were a curse.

"Cale Henituse, Kim Rok Soo, I will never let you two be happy! I will make you regret sealing me like this," the Sealed God laughed as his voice vanished to thin air.

Cale was about to cheer when he heard a grunt from his side and he saw his Rok Soo-hyung with a dagger in his stomach. He panicked and immediately approached him when a loud bang was heard and before he could do something, his face was on the floor.

"What the hell are you doing to Rok Soo?!" Choi Han yelled as he pinned Cale's body on the floor.

"Wait! This is a misunderstanding! I didn't do it!" Cale tried to reason as he lifted his head. Then Cale's head jerked to the side as a punch landed on his face. His eyes widened when he saw who did that, it was Vicross—his chef and the person he thought of as an older brother.

Cale's world stopped as he realized he would meet his end once again. He tried to plead to Alver but his cold eyes didn't change. Nobody believed him, as always.

He was dragged to the prison without healing him. He was still bleeding but they left him there in the cold, damp prison. Once again, he relives his prison life from his eighth regression. He was once again tortured by Vicross and Choi Han. They starved him and left him in the cold prison. The knights assigned to guard him raped him. All his thin threads of hope began to snap one by one as realization hit him.

I wasn't born to be happy, Cale thought. Mom lied to me.

Cale wasn't greedy. Cale cared and loved for his family and friends, no matter how much they misunderstood and betrayed him: he came back to be with them. All he wanted was to live longer together with them. All he wanted was to be happy with them. Did the gods consider his simple wish as greediness? Was he asking something so difficult to achieve? In his twentieth regression, he didn't show himself yet Kim Rok Soo found him and got reunited with everyone again. He thought this was it, but fate was cruel to him.

Cale Henituse tried to minimize his interaction with every single one of them to avoid his death flag, and yet here he was waiting for his death:

I tried to be good, that's why I made up with everyone in my first life and yet I was executed unjustly.

In my first regression, I tried to be a better person. I didn't act like a lout, I was a good son and brother to my siblings. I treated everyone well, however I was used as a sacrifice to save everyone. I got tortured to death from the hands of the enemies.

In my second regression, I woke up as a child and tried to rebuild everything that will aid us in defeating the White Star and Sealed God. But I was abandoned and left to die alone by my own family.

In my third regression, I cried and asked the gods why I kept coming back but nobody answered me. I did everything I could and I met Kim Rok Soo. I thought everything would be alright as I have found someone I sympathize with, yet he became the reason why I died.

In my fourth regression, I was kidnapped by the organization and once again used as a sacrifice to open the gates to the Demon World. Nobody saved me.

In my fifth regression, I was falsely accused of doing something I didn't do just because I was a "lout", nobody listened to my words and I was used as food for animals.

In my sixth regression, I found love. I became known as Alver's lover. I thought I would finally find the happiness my mother told me about. I have my found family and was living happily with all of them, but I was betrayed and killed once again.

In my seventh regression, I thought everything was a misunderstanding. I forgave everyone and started anew, yet I died again from their hands.

In my eighth regression, I lived a peaceful life with them once again. Alver and I loved one another once again. Everyone treated me so well, Rok Soo-hyung was a great brother to me. However, it didn't last. I was accused of harming Rok Soo-hyung, I got tortured, starved and sexually assaulted in prison. In the end, I died on the same platform.

In my ninth regression, Rok Soo-hyung got critically hurt and I was accused of doing that. I was mutilated by the people.

The cycle continued, abandonment, betrayal, misunderstandings, promises that were broken, death. My hope towards a new life and happiness didn't disappear. My love for my family, friends, lover, and people didn't vanish until the fifteenth regression. Just like how my life ended, my hope and love gradually disappeared every time I woke up in the past. I grew weary trying to defend and protect myself. I tried to understand and yet the cycle repeats in a loop. I am tired, I want to rest, Cale reminisced about the future he had. It was filled with anguish and despair.

Cale wasn't listening to the judge and the people. He didn't even hear the verdict given. Cale looked at his lover once again, Alver's eyes were cold. He was not the person who promised him he would love Cale until they grow old. He wasn't the person Cale thought would never break his promise.

"Did you ever love me?" Cale mouthed towards Alver. The Emperor understood what he said and averted his eyes. Cale smirked.

I see, it was all my delusions. I might have gone crazy after regressing so many times. Everything was all in my head, they never loved, trusted, and cared for me. I was still and will always be the villain in their eyes, Cale laughed.

Hey, god, if you truly exist, grant me this wish. Or make a deal with me, Cale once again looked up into the sky and closed his eyes as he heard the sound of metal being lifted to take his head. Before he could open his eyes, Cale's head rolled on the ground.

The people cheered after the knight beheaded the sinner. They burned his body and his ashes were scattered on the platform. One by one, people went back to their business and the heroes, along with the Emperor, went to visit their beloved Kim Rok Soo. The people were also worried about their hero, Rok Soo. Then a big screen appeared on the plaza. There, they saw Kim Rok Soo and the others.

As soon as they arrived, they met Kim Rok Soo in a disheveled state and Ron immediately assisted him but Rok Soo rejected him.

"Where's Cale?" Kim Rok Soo asked with bloodshot eyes.

"Don't worry, Rok Soo. No one will harm you anymore, he's dead," Choi Han warmly answered. The others nodded and smiled at the answer.

"Why? Why did you kill him?!" Rok Soo shouted which startled everyone.

"What do you mean 'why'? He stabbed you! Don't you remember?" Alver answered. There, they saw the always stoic man had tears falling from his eyes. His body staggered and he was immediately assisted by Eruhaben, who clicked his tongue and shook his head.

"Are you alright, Rok Soo?! Call Saint Jack!" Alver ordered.

"Why did you kill him? He didn't do anything wrong! He wasn't the one who stabbed me, you saw it wrong! The Sealed God manipulated the image you saw that day! How dare you?!" Rok Soo shouted. All of them stiffened.

"What do you mean? We clearly saw how that trash stabbed you!" Choi Han raised his voice.

"Trash? Don't make me laugh, you are the trash here. All of you are worse than trash! At least Cale knew how to pass judgment! At least that little brother of mine knew how to listen and discern what's the truth and what's false! How could you kill him when he's innocent!" Kim Rok Soo snapped. All of them were stunned.

Innocent? Cale Henituse is innocent? All of them questioned their minds.

Seeing how nobody believed him, Kim Rok Soo flashed the memory before. All of them saw how the Sealed God did the stabbing and Cale was there trying to help Kim Rok Soo. Every single person who saw the recording paled. They didn't listen to the red-haired. If anyone would say they thought he really was innocent would be a hypocrite. All of them were trembling from rage, sadness, and despair.

"Cale had suffered enough, he trusted and loved every single one of us. We asked for his help, he was reluctant at first but he helped us. And this is the repayment we gave him. People have called him trash but he was the light that guided us," Rok Soo spoke. Everyone couldn't say a thing.

Alver was regretting his decision. The thing that Cale asked him right before he was beheaded, did you truly love me? He wanted to shout YES, but he was too angry to do so. As a result, his rage took his beloved's life from him. Deruth, who saw the recording, shook. His son tried to explain that he was innocent but he didn't listen. His beloved son is gone. Everyone thought of the cries and plead of the Young Master Cale Henituse. They recalled the laugh he let out right before he was executed. It was beautiful and saddening at the same time. His eyes were dim, different from how it glows when he was happy. The once beautiful and strong red-haired man no longer existed.

"Get out of this villa, no exception. I don't want to see any of you again," Kim Rok Soo said as he turned his back from them.

Cale Henituse was the light that saved Kim Rok Soo after he was transported inside the novel. His laugh and smile were his only salvation in this world and yet the people who they saved took his only hope from him.

Cale, in another life, please let me meet you again. Let me make up for the things I didn't do, Kim Rok Soo cried.
