Here is a (very) short story I wrote a few years ago and I thought I would upload it here. :)

"I can't believe they forgot about me!" I muttered as the sea started to engulf me." I was so tired. No, I needed press on! Just swim! I can do it! I was slipping under.

"Beep, beep, beep!" I rolled over and turned off my alarm clock. I listened to the light rustle of the trees and smelt the fresh morning air. I laid there for a few minutes bathing in the warm sunlight.

I had been looking forward to this day for about a month. Today was the first day of my vacation and I will finally be able to go on the Land and Sea Island Safari. Naturally, I was more excited about the sea part of this tour. I was the best swimmer in the world! Well not actually, but I was definitely a strong swimmer.

Swimsuit, check, sunglasses check, goggles check, Land and Sea tour here I come! When I arrived at the meeting point, the Safari trucks were already there. They were just waiting for a few more people to arrive. I stood awkwardly next to the truck. There were about thirty other persons going on this trip and they all seemed to know each other. I was the outsider. I did not mind though, I had decided to take this trip so I could see the coral reef, I took solace in swimming by myself, though I did not feel confident enough to swim out there on my own.

Finally, it was the part of the trip I had been waiting for, one of the instructors was explaining the procedure but I was too excited to listen, I could not wait to dive into the water. "Ok, you can go into the water now."

Yes, it was my time to shine, I dove head first into the water and felt the water wrap around me like a cool, comfortable blanket. This was the life! I swan further and further. The waves were getting bigger. I wondered if I should stop but I could still see the boat, so I continued. The water glistened under the sunlight, the birds flew over head, I heard the roaring engine of an airplane as it passed overheard but what was that other sound? It sounded like a horn, I must have imagined it.

I stayed there for I do not know how long just relaxing in the water. I started to feel a little tired, I turned to look in the direction of the boat. Wait I could swear it was in this direction, maybe I am just a little disoriented, I spun all the way around, but there was nothing to be seen. The boat was gone!

I tried to calm myself down. I took a deep breath and then another one. This was not working! No, this cannot be how I die. Why me? Why like this? I frantically began swimming in the direction I thought was the shore.

The sea was angry now. I was swimming forward but I was not moving. I felt as though the sea was tugging at my feet, dragging me back. I was going to drown out here. "I can't believe they forgot about me!" I muttered as the sea started to engulf me. I was so tired. No, I needed press on! Just swim! I can do it! I was slipping under.

I felt a sharp pain in my leg. No, no, NO! I could not be having a muscle cramp! "Ahhhhhhhhhh!" I screamed as the pain took over. I was immobilized. I cried out again and again, that was all I could do. Tears ran down my face, as I cried out. My throat ached.

I should have listened to what the instructor was saying. I should not have swum so far out. I should have returned when I heard the horn like sound. That was probably the call to go back. I ignored all the signs. I did this to myself. How could I be so stupid. My breathing slowed. My eyes closed. The pain took over. The vengeful sea pulled me under. Help me. Everything went black.

"Beep, beep, beep," my eyes fluttered open and my families' heads hovered above me, I was in the hospital. I had survived.
