One Cherished Slumber

Deciding to review this new information in the morning, everyone went their separate ways. As everyone drifted out, the trio walked together. Natsu, Lucy and Happy strolled down the street towards Natsu's house. They had decided to stay there, since Lucy didn't feel safe at her own place. She was once stolen from her own bed in the middle of the night, now she was too frightened to fall asleep in the same place.

Happy sleepily rested atop of Natsu's head, yawning occasionally. Natsu held a firm grip on Lucy's hand, her fingers were cold as he warmed them. He watched her shiver as her nose turned slightly red. She was so funny when she was cold, the way she drew closer to him and squeezed her eyes shut. Soon enough she let go of his hand and grabbed his entire arm, hugging him tightly. Natsu could feel the flush in his cheeks, everything she did was too incredible. No matter how close they had become, Lucy never failed to make his heart soar.

Natsu opened the front door and stepped aside, allowing his small family to walk inside.

Happy droopily flew to his perch and nestled into the tiny bed on the ceiling. Snores followed directly after, notifying the remaining two that he was asleep.

Lucy strode over to the couch, flopping down and sighing. Her sack-like shirt ruffled as she fell, Natsu was still not uses to her new fashion. Not that he didn't like it, she looked beautiful in anything. But he wondered what caused this dramatic change in clothing.

"Hey Luce." Natsu sat upon the couch next to her, pulling her closer.

"Hmm?" She hummed in response, snuggling into his side.

"Why don't you ever wear your old outfits?" He asked gently.

"I just don't feel like wearing it." She brushed off the question.

"But you don't wear anything you used to. In fact you hardly ever wear anything else besides that baggy sweater."

He had gone too far.

"Whats wrong with this sweater? I don't see why I shouldn't wear it! Sorry if I am a disappointment!" She snapped, pulling away from him.

"Im not saying that, I just noticed you weren't dressing the same as before." He tried to recuperate the situation.

"Oh! So you only liked me because of the way I dressed. Now that I don't dress like a tramp, I am boring!"

This was not going well. Lucy was fuming, beyond reasonable comprehension.

"No!" Now even Natsu retaliated. "I just wish you would tell me why you are so uptight. I want to know what happened to you!"

"I am fine! Why does everyone think that?! I dress different, so what?! Do you think something is wrong with me? Do you want to leave me again, just like you did in that cave!" Lucy thundered.

Natsu's heart stopped, filling with regret and depression. She had just confirmed that Lucy was not okay, she was still dwelling on the incident.

"You know that wasn't my fault." Natsu whispered gently, attempting to calm her.

Lucy paused, he was right. She had taken it too far. Natsu had no control over his actions, but the memory was still burned into her fragile mind.

"I know." She whimpered.

The tension died as quickly as it started. The meaningless fight had ended. Silence consumed the air, both parties at a loss of words.

"Mmm...Fish..." A groggy voice moaned in the background.

Happy hadn't woken up from the ruckus, but instead started to vocalize his dream.

The previous pressure evaporated as Natsu and Lucy snickered at their little companion.

"Will you please let me stay with you tonight?" Natsu asked, as he did every night. Knowing she slept better with him.

Blushing, Lucy nodded. Finally ready to accept help from her friend.

Impatiently, Natsu lifted her off the couch and laid her into bed. Pulling up the covers and sinking into comfort. Bare face and messy hair, Lucy was breath taking. Not able to take his gaze off her perfect features, he wandered to every inch of her face. Lastly his eyes landed to her lips, rosy and slightly parted. He was desperate to kiss them, after all their time together, they had not once kissed. Even after they confessed their feelings, the timing wasn't quite right. However this subtitle sensation, dug away at Natsu. He wanted to pull her in and show her how he truly felt.

But he was nervous, incredibly nervous. What if she didn't want him to kiss her? What if he did it wrong? How would she react? Taking a deep breath he confronted his fears and leaned forward. Thank the heavens Lucy did not shy away, alternatively she followed suit. Tilting her chip up to meet his, slowly making contact.

The sensation was better than a dream, the notion of conformation and acceptance. How they danced and hearts leaped. A joyous song playing in their minds, melting them until they forgot all worries and simply became loved. Side by side the slept peacefully, abandoning the cares of life, lost in their own world of harmony.
