Memories of the Past
Blinding light surrounded him as a harsh wind ripped through his bones. Making his clothing and hair fly in all directions. A bitter cold cut deep into his skin as the snow whipped past his squinted eyes.
One particular gust knocked him down, disturbing the white powder below. Rubbing his chilled arms, he surveyed the bright area.
The ground was covered in a bleached blanket of snow as the sky blended with the ground. Icy flakes swung by and stung his bare flesh. Yet the worst part was not the brewing storm. But the fact that he recognized the terrain terrified him the most. Because he knew exactly where and when he was.
He was atop Mount Haboke, the same place he and Lucy had shared a few missions together. None of which Lucy particularly enjoyed, she was never a fan of cold weather.
However, their most recent visit to the mountain was when Lucy had been held captive in its snowy banks. It was this exact moment that Natsu knew exactly where he was. Not simply in a mountain, but in Lucy's memories. He was about to witness Lucy's Looking Glass.
"Lucy!" Natsu sniffed around wildly, attempting to find his friend.
Nothing could be heard over the raging storm, yet he charged deeper into the white wilderness. Thankfully he knew exactly where she had been kept, having found her left behind keys.
Natsu ran a short distance to a large cave and dove inside. Immediately in front if him was an oddly shaped structure. A giant icicle towering from the ceiling as a tree. Towards the bottom, clear roots spread out and formed a perfectly flat-type cage. From the spaces between the ice, a small formed shivered.
Lucy.
Curled up in a tight ball, in nothing but shorts and a t-shirt. Despite the situation, she still held her look of determination. The shine of hope in her eyes. A look that had long disappeared when they finally rescued her.
Slowly the scene dissolved, fading into tiny pieces. Replaced by a new background, a sight Natsu also recognized. However he wished he could skip this memory, wanting to run away and never see it again!
Natsu stood in the middle of another cave. This one brown and musty, covered in many layers of dust. With every step he took the walls shook, threatening to collapse.
Footsteps from behind him drew closer, slowing tapping louder. Natsu didn't bother looking, he knew how this played out. He, Natsu Dragneel was the one coming. To yell at his best friend, to curse her name and scorn her very existence. However, he was wrong.
The figure that passed him was not who he was expecting. Instead of seeing his own image, he saw the white coat of Cloven.
Natsu's mind filled with curiosity as he followed the man. Only a few feet into the darkness she laid, hand and feet shackled to the rocky floor. Pale and thin, Lucy's form had already started to loose hope. At this point she had been taken for over a week and it was visibly taking a tole.
"Luce." Natsu called out, mostly to himself. Horrified at her state.
"Layla." Cloven spoke.
This confused Natsu, Lucy's name was not Layla. If he remembered correctly, Layla was her mother's name.
Cloven's voice caused Lucy to flinch as he gained her attention.
The evil man proceeded to rant about his past relationship with Lucy's mother. How they were inseparable partners and always trusted one another. Natsu couldn't help but draw parallels to his and Lucy's relationship and made him hate the situation even more.
Cloven elaborated that Layla left the guild to marry Lucy's father. How she had betrayed their friendship and deserted her friends.
"But now I have you! Layla's twin, her match!" The tone of Cloven's voice suddenly changed. Resonating deeper, dripping with lust.
Natsu could only watch in horror as the man took hold of Lucy. He could see her try to fight, pitifully failing. Her eyes wide in terror, but her body too tired to struggle properly. Cloven's disgusting hands drifted to all corners, places Natsu could only dream of.
He stood frozen as the abomination before him continued. Soon, Lucy started to cry, screaming for help. For him! Lucy was desperately calling out for Natsu, not wanting to participate in the awful act. This was too much! He couldn't take it anymore. This had gone on too long! He'd had ENOUGH!
Pulling himself from the spell, Natsu ripped his mind out if the Looking Glass.
Forcing his eyes open, he was back to the present. To reality. His mind still replaying the slight he had just witnessed and prayed it was not true.
Feeling the need to vomit he turned over and emptied his stomach. He truly refused to accept this, but his heart knew better. No wonder Lucy couldn't talk about it, that was something he would never revisit.
"Yes! Finally." Natsu's heart dropped as he remembered his original objective. Turning his head he saw that the Equinox Gate was wide open.
"Come forth my precious spirits!" A loud groan shook the earth. "Come to me!"
Savina spread her arms wide in waiting for whatever was coming. From the shadowed entrance, black sphere's started to rocket outwards. Into the sky they flew and tainted the night sky.
Dozens...hundreds...thousands of dark souls shot into their world! A select few spun around Savina's hysterical form.
Natsu could sense the evil energy spewing from every one. As they emerged the balls took form of spirits, similar Savina's henchmen. Except these had no morals, not an ounce of sympathy. They dripped with demonic power and were much larger, as if they were the ghosts of dead monsters instead of dead civilians.
"Master Natsu!" Aries appeared beside him and helped him stand. It appeared that all the Celestial Spirits had returned to their senses and gathered around him.
"We are so sorry! That Witch, she cursed us." Sagittarius spat.
"Our time is almost up, we will be sent back to the Spirit World soon." Virgo stated sadly.
"Its alright, I'll see you next time." Natsu half smiled.
"Unfortunately, you will not see us again." Loki's voice trembled. Seeming to hold back tears.
"What? Why not?" Natsu asked, confused.
"Its the fate of all Celestial Spirits." Loki continued shakily. "Our contract with Lucy is about to brake, we must all be scattered and await a new Master."
