Epilogue
The Fairytail Guild had been searching wildly for their two missing members and no one knew where they could be. They searched the entire span of Fiore and neither Lucy nor Natsu were found.
After days of research they finally figure out Savina's dark purpose and knew they had to look for the Equinox gate. They pushed through their bad memories with the Eclipse Gate and looked eagerly for their comrades.
Finally a small party was sent to the Gate's location. However, it took them an entire week to arrive! Because the two gates cannot be near each other, they are like repelling magnets. Therefore they are located on opposite sides of the globe and since the eclipse Gate was so close, they had a long journey.
Erza, Grey, Wendy, Happy, Charlie, Gajeel and Levy were all sent to help Natsu and Lucy and bring them back to Fairytail. However when they arrived, only the later was needed. At first they prayed that their eyes deceived them. However, it was true.
In a large clearing of the Dexot forest stood the intimidating Gate, its door stood high above the canopy. It was obvious a battle had taken place, evident in the damaged trees and scratches on the grass. however, one sight captured their attention more than anything else. Set in the center of the field laid Natsu and Lucy.
The group rushed over to their comrades to assess what happened. However, it seemed even after all their efforts, they had arrived too late. Both Natsu and Lucy were covered head to toe in serious injuries and bodies now cold. Lucy positioned face down on top of Natsu, her head softly rested just under his chin. Natsu's arms gripped Lucy's back firmly, even after death his determination kept her close. However, despite their condition a content smile rested on their faces. It seemed like they had been in this position for several days.
"Natsu! Lushie!" Happy took flight and sped towards his parents.
"Come on Wendy, there must be something we can do!" Grey could not accept the sight.
Erza placed a shaken hand on his shoulder and shook her head, tears already falling down her cheeks. "There is nothing left to do."
"We need to take them back home, they still belong to Fairytail!" From her knees Levy clutched her hands tightly together. Gajeel rubbed her back, but not without his own tears.
"You are absolutely right, they deserve a proper burial." Erza agreed.
Happy sat on the ground and clutched unto Natsu's shoulder, he was silent. The poor exceed closed his eyes tightly and wished for a different outcome. In one day he had lost his family.
"I don't know what happened. But if it had anything to do with the last gate, I think they did the world a huge favor." Grey obverse the scene.
"Yes, it seems they fought hard for something. I can imagine they did their best."
"Looks like they won too." Wendy smiled sadly.
"How can you tell?" Gajeel asked.
"Because it's so peaceful." Erza asnwered for Wendy, feeling the breeze in her hair.
"It is beautiful." Wendy joined in on gazing out.
"At least they fell asleep in such a nice place." Levy traced a finger across Lucy's grey face.
No one spoke a word after that, instead they separated Natsu and Lucy's bodies and transported them home. Wendy cast a spell on them, so their bodies would stay preserved during travel plus it was too hard to see them another way.
Upon arrival at the Guild, a great cry was heard throughout Magnolia as the entire city morned the loss of two great mages. Mages who had protected the town from many obstacles and stood by the citizens with their lives.
Two grave stones were handmade and placed in the center of the Fairytail Graveyard. Side by side they were buried. The stones almost touched each other and rightly so, because in life, no two were closer than Natsu and Lucy.
Therefore even in death they would forever be together.

Hey guys! Sorry for the sadness but I wanted to write a more realistic ending. Instead of some random, heroic, last minute come back. The hero's to accomplish their goal, but couldn't bring themselves out afterwards.
If you liked this series, check out my other works! The most recent writings are the collection of Short Stories! As of April, 2020 I am still updating them semi-regularly. I really hoped you enjoyed reading!
