Chapter 40: Nerves

Author's Notes:

WARNING: Dash is a bitch -.-
My brain is dead.
What the fuck is wrong with me? XD

Danny shrugged and sighed in response, feeling mentally drained and not in the mood to deal with the jock. "What do you even do all this for; why waste your time messing with me?"

Dash scowled. "Who says I need a reason? And even if I did have one, like hell I'd ever tell you."

The halfa brushed a strand of stray hair behind his ear, trying to imagine what could happen and how he should act in each scenario. "There has to be something specific. You seem to hate ghosts for some reason, but you picked on me even before I was turned into a halfa. So what is it about me that you can't stand Dash?"

"Shut the fuck up!" the jock yelled before moving to punch him in the face.

The older teen saw it coming and turned himself intangible; he didn't have to though since the bully tripped way before his fist even came close to connecting with him, falling flat on his face.

He stared dumbfounded and turned tangible as the bully picked himself up. 'Karma bitch.' He thought, trying not to laugh.

"What'd you say?!" the other said, glaring daggers at him.

'Opps, guess I said that out loud.' The halfa said mentally. "I asked if you were alright." He lied, trying not to smile. "I mean, that was a rather nasty fall."

"What the hell did you do?" the teen accused.

He held up his hands in a 'don't look at me' gesture. "I didn't do anything."

"Yes you did! You went invisible and then two seconds later it felt like someone was pulling me down by the ankles. I know that it was you."

"First off, I went intangible not invisible, there's a difference. Second, I'm telling you I didn't do anything."

"Well maybe it was one of your little ghost friends." Dash said, crossing his arms.

The older pinched the bridge of his nose, closed his eyes and counted to three. 'Maybe I can annoy him into leaving? At this rate I'm just gonna annoy him into trying to punch me again. This is ridiculous, it's always the same damn thing, my whole damn life is a circle.'

"Well, was it?!" the bully prodded.

He realized that his three seconds had turned into something like thirty seconds. He reopened his eyes. "My friends usually wait for me at home, not follow me around. Are you sure that you didn't just lose your footing? If one of my 'ghost' friends was with me they wouldn't be invisible."

"Why not? I wouldn't blame it for wanting to be invisible."

The halfa crossed his arms, nails biting into his flesh, feeling his patience wearing thin. 'Can I just ask Valerie's dad to make a 'Ghost awareness' holiday or something?' "Why do you hate ghosts so much anyway?! You do realize that they used to be alive and have just taken on a different form, right?! Geez they didn't ask to be this way!"

The other smiled, happy to have hit a nerve. "I don't like ghosts because they're like you Fagton, they're freaks." He said, half a second later he went flying backwards as if someone had pushed him.

The halfa saw the space in front of him blur a bit as if someone was holding a piece of slightly smudged glass in front of him. His eyes widened, there was someone there.

'Johnny? No, Johnny doesn't go invisible and he would have used Shadow. Ember? No she doesn't go invisible either since she likes being the center of attention.' The older teen searched his memory but couldn't come up with an answer to who it could be. It couldn't be a new ghost either since his ghost sense hadn't gone off.

"Uh Dash?" he called to the jock who was picking himself up about seven feet away.

He would have walked over to him, but he didn't want to walk through whoever was there because he knew that weird detached feeling that it came with.

"You were kind of right, there is a ghost here, but I'm not exactly sure who it is. Sorry it's kinda hard to identify an invisible person," he directed that last sentence to the space where he was guessing that the person was.

"Uh but whoever it is obviously doesn't like you, so you should probably leave before they decide to haunt you." The teen said to the jock.

The bully looked like he wanted to argue but decided against it. "Screw you Fenton! And your ghost friend!" he turned to sprint off, failed to see that he had been in front of the park fountain and fell in.

Danny covered his mouth to try to avoid laughing but a few giggles still slipped out. The other pulled himself out of the fountain, soaking wet, shot him a glare and stormed off.

The halfa burst out laughing. "T-that was awesome! Whoever did that come on out." He said between laughing fits."

Vlad turned visible a few paces in front of him, looking like his anger was barely being contained but his gaze instantly softened when he saw the teen laughing. "I really don't like him." He stated.

The younger laughed again but then remembered what Johnny had said to him before and the laughter died on his lips. He had never specifically told the other man what the motorcyclist had said, but this didn't mean that the teen didn't have a million questions, and what's more is that he had no one who could answer them.

"You okay badger?" the other asked, snapping him back to reality.

He smiled and waved off the question. "Yeah yeah, I'm good. How did you get here? I'm starting to suspect that you're physic. I mean, you always seem to know when to show up."

"These last few days I've been getting reacquainted with Amity, getting back to date so to speak. I was flying past when I saw you talking with that barbarian." He replied; distaste clearly showing on his face.

"Oh...how much did you hear?" the teen asked with an awkward laugh.

"Quite enough, hence why I stepped in. Personally I would have liked to electrocute the boy but I had a feeling that you would disapprove if you did, so I just gave him a few friendly shoves." He said dryly.

He giggled. "Your sarcasm level just now."

The other halfa smiled a bit before going back to the main subject. "I'm assuming that was the boy that you said 'sometimes' bothered you." He said, emphasizing the sometimes for the bullshit that it now clearly was.

"Yeah, how could you tell." He deadpanned; he sat on the one of the swing sets followed by the man.

"Why do you let him do that?" the older sighed.

"C'mon fruitloop, he can't touch me. Literally, ghost powers remember?" he joked.

He wasn't thrown off. "That's not what I meant and you know it. Why do you let him talk like that to you?"

The teen waited for a few moments before answering half because he didn't want to answer, half because he was trying to think up a convincing lie. Since he couldn't think of one he decided to tell the truth. "At first it was because I just wanted to avoid confronting him. That it would just be easier you know? Lie low, head down, all that junk. Then it was just routine, he messes with me I sometimes fight back. Now... now I just feel like I deserve it." He admitted.

"How could you think that you deserve to be spoken to in such a manner?"

"I just do. Okay?" he said gritting his teeth, clutching the chain of the swing set tighter. 'This is why I prefer to lie,' he thought bitterly 'I get to avoid confrontation. I get to pretend that nothing is wrong.'

"That's not an answer. I've always respected the boundaries you've set before but... this just seems different. Please tell me." The man said in his 'all the patience in the world' voice.

"I really don't want to get into it okay?" the younger said, an edge to his voice that was a polar opposite of the others calm tone.

"I'm not trying to get you upset. I'm just trying to tell you that no matter what you shouldn't let-"

"In a different future I'm a murder!" he shouted, eyes flashing as he looked at the other. "Is that a good enough answer for you!?"

Author's Notes:

Danny isn't snapping at Vlad on purpose, once again life has decided to dump a whole bunch of shit on him all at once.
And besides, he had to tell Vlad eventually right? I know that it seems a bit sudden but you'd be surprised how fast things can 180 when you're talking to someone while you're angry
Also Vlad DIDN'T and had no intention to hurt Dash. He was simply giving him a little back off warning. He didn't punch Dash in any moment, only tripped him and shoved him. The reason that Dash went flying back when he shoved him was because he had been caught off guard, that's all.
And Danny WASN'T laughing about how Dash got 'hurt' he was laughing about he fell in the fountain and the overall irony of the situation.
Just thought that I'd clarify that so there's no confusion. Although I may have made people more confused. ;-;
