Chapter 37: Audtitions

Author's Notes:

Also I know some people might be asking if Vlad was awake or not during the song BUT I AIN'T SAYIN NOTHING YET!! XD Key word is yet.

-Monday Afternoon, Drama Class-

"Thank you Dash, next up is Danny." Mr. Macrone said after Dash's tryout for the part of Hansel.

The halfa took a deep breath, walked out from behind the curtain and onto the stage as the jock exited. The bully tried to subtly trip him but the older teen saw it coming from a mile away and discreetly made his feet and ankles intangible when the jock tried to trip him. The other was clearly confused when his target didn't fall but was smart enough not to say anything. The halfa made his legs tangible again and stood in the center of the stage.

"Um hi, I'm going to be trying out for two parts, if that's okay."

"Ambitious aren't we?" the teacher said taking notes on his clipboard.

"Yes sir," he smiled, feeling a bit more at ease. "Kind of like how an actor has an understudy. If I don't get one part than I may have the other to fall back on."

"So what parts will you be trying out for?"

He took a deep breath. "Hansel and Gretel." He looked over from the corner of his eye and saw Dash looking at him with a face that could either be shock or that he was about to burst out laughing.

Mr. Macrone's eyebrows rose a bit in surprise but it was short lived. "Alright begin, Hansel first."

"Okay," he took a second to compose himself. He had fought ghosts and saved the world but if he were to be completely honest then he would admit that he was nervous. To him it didn't make sense, after all nobodies' life was on the line, so theoretically he shouldn't be this nervous right? Yet here he was, nervous of screwing up and making a fool out of himself; well such is the life of a high school student. And to make matter worse, Dash's tryout had been surprisingly good.

"Do not cry sister! I will protect you from whatever creatures that dwell here! Even if father does not return, I swear that I will keep you safe!" (He's not "shouting" per say, he's projecting his voice, that's part of tryouts as well.) He tried to imagine that he was comforting his little sister like Hansel was supposed to be doing, but it was difficult to imagine. After all, Dani never cried, never needed to be comforted. They had an ongoing joke about how she probably didn't have tear ducts; the only time anyone ever saw her tearing up is when she had been laughing too much.

"Look! The path of white pebbles that we made glitters in the moonlight! Do not lose hope sister for we shall follow them home!" he finished the tryout line with a nod.

The teacher returned the nod and wrote something else on the clip board. "Okay now show me your best Gretel."

'Okay, this is the big one, gotta make it convincing.' He thought, he held the charm of his necklace for half a second before beginning his performance.

"Papa please, please do not abandon us here! What did we do wrong; why do you leave us here!?" he tried his best to sound distressed and scared. This was the part where Gretel was pleading her father not to abandon them in the woods, even though she knows that he plans to do so no matter what.

He ran a hand through his hair as he dredged up memories of nightmares, trying to let past fears bubble into his voice. "We don't want to be left alone here! Papa please answer, you're scaring me!" he finished with the tryout line and looked up at the teacher who had the stone face that he always did when evaluating performances; but the halfa swore that he could see a faint smile on his face.

The teen grinned widely. "Thank you for your time." He said, walking off of the stage; he had been the last one to audition.

"I'll announce the roles tomorrow." The teacher said.

The bell rand and the halfa grabbed his backpack and raced out of the auditorium before Dash had a chance to mess with him. He met up with his friends outside of Lancer's classroom and they all took their seats.

"Did you even do the assignment?" Valerie teased him, knowing how forgetful he could be when it came to homework.

"Of course I did." He huffed, though he had finished it that morning at the last possible second.

After all it wasn't as if he had much free time that weekend; Saturday had been the whole virus episode and then Sunday he had been giving a concert with Ember. When he had finally sateen down to do the assignment his brain had been dead and he was out of creativity so he had simply rewritten on of the old love letters he had written so it could qualify as a poem.

"Okay, you all will be presenting your poems." Lancer stated

The whole class groaned, Danny almost screamed out loud. 'Oh no, fuck no, never in a million years! Hell no!' he internally screamed wanting to turn invisible or better yet, fly away.

"Any volunteers?" the teacher prodded.

"Why not?" Sam said, standing up with her poem in her hand. She obviously wasn't going to wait for the teacher to start calling on people. She recited a lovely poem about love for the night and the moon; it was dark, chilling and utterly beautiful just like the girl.

After her went Tucker who had written a haiku about gaming, then went Valerie who's poem was about the thrill of adventures, a few more people from the class willingly presented their work but son enough there was no more eager participants.

"Looks like I'll have to call on someone." The teacher said.

'Gee I wonder who he'll pick?' The halfa thought sarcastically.

"Mr. Fenton, please present your work."

'Called it.' He thought before starting to read off of the slightly wrinkled piece of paper. "I'm not sure-"

"Stand up please." The teacher interrupted.

The teen did as he was told and started over.

"- I am not sure at all what to say to you

They say that there is a thin line between love and hate

I am not sure if I should believe that too

Maybe this is a game designed by hate

After all, there is no other way to explain what has transpired

No other reason that could say why I have these feelings that I have acquired.

- I know that you're not exactly the best person

But I am no saint myself

I'm just so confused by the situation I've been immersed in

And I'm sure that if you ever saw what was in my heart you would be confused yourself

I don't want to burden you with this

So I will be stuck with the longing for an unattainable kiss

- You shall never know everything I wish to convey

Mostly because I could never string the words together

Perhaps one day I will tell you everything that I am too afraid to say

When that time will come I do not know, it could be now it could be never

And though one day we will inevitable need to part

You will remain in the depths of my heart."

"What's the title of that?" Lancer asked.

"Oh uh I forgot to put a title on it. It's called um ... Hidden." The halfa said fumbling for his words

"Fitting, because it seems that you have a hidden talent for words."

The teen resisted the urge to groan at the pun and chose to sit down instead, face pink over the embarrassment of having to read his poem out loud.

'Fuck my life.'

Author's Notes:

Um yeah the poem, that goddamn poem. I kinda wrote it myself... please don't hate meh!!!! XD I know I used the same font as when he was singing but he is not I repeat NOT singing! I just put it in that font to show that he's talking differently. So uh yeah, I'm the world's worst poet XD
Again sorry that updates may not be as often ;-;
