Chapter 16: Reunions
Author's Notes:
Yay!! The ice teddy bear makes his appearance!!! ^.^
"You know what's weird?" Dani panted, trying to catch her breath.
"What? How you accuse me of being a cheater even though you always do the same thing?" Danny said with a short laugh
"No," she laughed "That over here our hair doesn't get messed up when we race."
"That's cause ghost physics are different than ours."
"How so?" she asked curiously.
"Well think about it. Ember has fire for hair yet she doesn't get burned. Technus is made out of electricity but he doesn't short circuit himself. Frostbite can shoot ice out of his hands and he doesn't get, pardon the pun, frostbite. Need I continue?"
Dani rolled her eyes, smiling. "Okay smart ass, just call Frostbite already."
"Frostbite! It's Danny and... well Dani with an 'i'." he yelled loudly. Frostbite didn't have a phone since they didn't make any big enough for his massive paws. Moments later Frostbite came walking towards them, smiling brightly.
"Danny and Danielle! What a delightful surprise!" he greeted.
Dani went flying into Frostbite's open arms, squealing. "Frosty!"
The teen facepalmed. "Dani how many times do I have to tell you? Frostbite is our friend, not a frozen dessert from Wendy's."
"It's alright I don't mind," The ice warrior said smiling. Danielle was sitting on his shoulder just like Danny had when he had first met him. "So what brings you here my friends?"
"Well Dani over here wants to see if she can get ice powers, so I was wondering if you can train her?" he said "She's a much better shot than me though." He added in a rush remembering how terrible he had been at aiming when Frostbite had trained him.
"Of course! We'll have to see if she has the ability in her first though. Come, let us go to the village."
"Onward Frosty!" she said, talking as if she were a queen minus the fact that she was kicking her legs back and forth in excitement.
"Dani I think you are capable of flying yourself to the village." The halfa said not so subtly hinting for her to get off of the furry ice giant. She let out a huff, climbed off of the warrior and flew ahead of both of them to the village. Danny and Frostbite chose to walk there.
"I appreciate you taking the time to do this. She hasn't gotten this power yet, and I'm not even sure if she will but I do not want her to get it the same way I did. Sorry if it's any trouble." He said.
"Not at all." The ghost yeti reassured.
"Well still, thank you." He said holding his hand out to the other for a handshake. He took his hand, but paused for a moment, tilting his head to the side as if he were analyzing the halfa; looking him dead in the eye. The younger shifted but didn't break eye contact, not wanting to seem rude.
"Ah," Frostbite said as if someone had just told him something interesting. He let go of his hand, and smiled broadly. "Well c'mon, we don't want to keep Danielle waiting do we?" he said and continued walking.
The halfa stood there for a moment wondering what that had been about but shook it off and quickly caught up to Frostbite.
"So how has Danielle and you been lately?"
"Great, she's going to start high school tomorrow, so this is kind of like an end of summer thing that we're doing."
"That's good; a young woman like her should be able to study into the field that she wants to. It's very kind of you to this for her."
"Hey, you're doing more than me here, you're the trainer remember? Anyway, she's a kinda nervous but Sam, tucker Valerie and me will help her out."
Frostbite nodded approvingly. He had a good deal of respect for Sam and Tucker. But he greatly admired Valerie; the feeling was mutual since they recognized each other's warrior heart. The walk to the village was short and the two chatted, bouncing from subject to subject until they arrived.
Danielle was hovering lazily in the air waiting for them. "Finally." She teased upon their arrival.
"Yeah yeah yeah." Her brother said waving his hand.
The yeti led them to the center of the arena where he had trained Danny, except now it looked more like a hockey rink because they had added a glass wall all the way around it.
The teen groaned. "Did they do that because of me?"
Frostbite shrugged sheepishly.
"Yeah I thought so." He said facepalming. His sister laughed. "Uh huh, laugh it up, just remember you're the one who's going to be training this time." This caused her to stop laughing almost immediately. He smiled smugly.
"Alright, she had the power inside her, I can sense it, faintly of course since it hasn't built up, but it's there. It's a bit...odd though." The warrior said
Danny felt shivers even though his ghost half didn't get cold easily. "So you can sense if someone has ice powers?" he said changing the subject from whatever, however Dani's ice powers were odd.
"Yes, I can."
"So you sensed it inside me when we first met?"
"Precisely."
"Well thanks for the warning." He said crossing his arms.
"Sorry, you guys just seemed like you were in a hurry. And besides, how was I supposed to know it would get that bad?" He said apologetically.
"What do you mean that bad?" Dani asked confused.
"I was nearly frozen solid when I first got my ice powers and came over here for help." Dany answered matter of factly (and without thinking).
She turned pale.
"But you can avoid that happening since you're practicing now and not waiting for it to build up." He reassured in a rush.
"Okay," Frostbite said drawing their attention. "Danielle you have not yet discovered the power inside you, you have to search for it."
"Okay..." she closed her eyes and took a deep breath. After a few moments she let out an exasperated breath. "I'm not feeling anything."
"Try singing 'Let it go.'" Her brother called from the sidelines.
