Chapter 11: Someone's Else's Life
Danny was three seconds into flying home when he crashed into a wall. He looked around and saw that he was in the kitchen; with his parents looking startled and Danielle smirking. Apparently, they had just finished eating since his mom was elbows deep in a sink full of water and bubbles, washing the dishes.
"Fuck teleporting." He muttered rubbing his head, not expecting his mom to hear.
"Danny! Language please." His mom chided.
"Uh, I mean fudge. Fudge teleporting."
"Uh-huh, go wash up. I'll have your food reheated in minute tardy pants."
"Yes ma'am." He said, giving a short salute before trudging upstairs to do like his mom had told him too. He transformed back to human, took off his gloves, washed his hands, put his gloves back on and went back downstairs, sitting down at the dining table.
"I made spaghetti." Madeline said, placing a plate of said food in front of the halfa.
Danny had barely gotten a spoonful down before his dad started asking the inevitable questions. "So you're getting the ability to teleport?" Jack said pulling up a chair next to him.
"Seems like it." He replied before some eating more.
"When did it start?"
Danny shifted uncomfortably in his seat and procrastinated by eating some more before answering. "About last week I guess." On the contrary, he knew exactly when. Last week at the Disasteroid anniversary. He had flown away from the 'festivities', hating all of the banners and cheering. All of it was for Phantom. 'Dude did you see how Phantom got all the ghosts to help save the earth?' 'Wow, it was so cool how Phantom saved us.' For once he wanted to be known as Fenton, or better yet, as Danny. 'Danny, great job on your math test.' 'Danny you scored the winning touchdown.' 'Wow, Danny just got into NASA; I knew he could do it.' But he knew that would never happen, he was bound to his ghost half, in more ways than one. Sure the fame and popularity were great, but it was also a ball and chain. He would always be stuck inside the prison that was his ghostly counterpart; he could look out at everyone, but no one ever got close enough to ever look through the bars and see him.
The worst part of the festivities was that no one cared, or even remembered about Vlad. Sure the man had demanded absolute power, but he had tried to help too, in his own way at least. It was like the man had never existed, that he was just simply gone. After he had been stranded in space all talk of him seemed to cease. It sickened Danny how easily people could forget what was simply put out of view. There hadn't even been any kind of service after the man had disappeared. Although it didn't come as that big of a shock to Danny; after all his own parents didn't visit Vlad in all the years that he had been trapped in the hospital. They had just forgotten.
When Danny had flown away from the celebration he had suddenly found himself in the middle of Vlad's Wisconsin mansion. Of course he had freaked the fuck out and immediately teleported back.
"A week ago?! Why didn't you tell us Danny boy?!" his father asked in his signature loud voice.
'Because I knew you would have interrogated me.' He thought and shrugged. "I guess it slipped my mind, sorry."
His dad began to ramble about powers and possibilities and powers before Maddie smacked him on the head. "Ow! What was-" he was cut off by a stern look from her.
Danny rolled his eyes and continued to eat. He loved his parents but he knew that they can make him pretty uncomfortable; without meaning too of course. But hey, all parents were like that, right? After he had revealed his ghost half they interrogated him about anything and everything. His powers, the ghost zone, Danielle's cloning sequence, his allies, his enemies. His mom had already gotten the memo but his dad was oblivious as always when it came to things like that.
"So Danny, where were you? Danielle said that you were coming home alone, we got worried." Maddie said in her 'worried mom' voice.
"Oh, I was with Ember, doing a concert."
"Ah, so you're following in your old man's footsteps after all! Remember, I had a band too, The Skunk Punks!"
"Maybe you'll be on the news." Dani said.
Danny groaned. "I hope not, besides, I think the news channel has better things to do better things to report about that don't involve me playing music. Especially considering that I'm supposed to be protecting the town from ghosts instead of fooling around."
"It's a small town, and you haven't exactly had anyone to fight lately, besides Skulker of course.so no one can blame you for wanting to have some fun." Dani pointed out.
"I didn't know that Ember had come over." Maddie said.
"Well she was in my room. She doesn't socialize with adults much though. So she might have just flown in invisible or something." Danny finished eating and thanked his mom for the food, setting his plate in the sink.
"Dessert?" his mom offered.
"Oh! Oh! Can Danny make ice cream?!" his dad asked
Danny shrugged. "Sure, it'll take a few minutes though so go to the living room and turn on the TV or something. I'll take it over there when it's done."
"Yaaaaay!" Dani and his dad cheered simultaneously.
"Yeah, yeah. No go before I possess the whole kitchen." He joked making shooing his family out of the kitchen. He had discovered a while back that he could use his ice powers to make ice cream and since he had a sweet tooth, it came in handy. Although he doubted he could win a battle by throwing ice cream at whatever villain he happened to be facing. After adding the fudge flavoring he had the frozen treats ready. He balanced the four bowls and spoons on his arms and went to the living room where he heard Dani laughing. He passed out the bowls to each of them.
"Yay fudge!" Jack said before devouring the treat.
"Jack you're going to give yourself a brain freeze." Maddie warned.
Jack frowned but slowed down anyway, Danny laughed.
The halfa flopped down on the sofa with his own bowl in hand. "So what are we-" he nearly dropped his ice cream in shock.
"- earlier today Amity Park's hero, Danny Phantom was giving a concert with ghostly musical sensation, Ember McLain. I guess even ghosts need to rock out sometime." The reporter said before the footage began playing. The footage showed Danny spinning, dancing, flying and rocking the hell out. He knew what was coming next in the video and winced. He was playing a wicked guitar solo and smashed the instrument then was about to keep playing but realized that his guitar was broken. Then the camera zoomed in on his bright green face as he sheepishly made a new one. His parents cheered, his little sister laughed and Danny went intangible with his ice cream and flew up to his room, trying and failing not to laugh.
He went to his computer and turned it on. He then opened up the Facebook icon and sent a message to Sam and Tucker stating that he was dying and if they wanted to video chat. Less than thirty seconds later he got a request from Sam sending him a video request. Danny rolled his eyes grinning and answered the call. Both Sam and Tucker appeared on the screen.
"Hey Danny." They both said almost simultaneously.
"What's up?" Tucker asked
"Trying to get away from my family."
"They saw the video of you on the news." Sam said, it wasn't a question.
"Yeah, they saw my smashing performance." Danny replied.
Tucker and Sam groaned simultaneously at the halfa's lame pun. Then Sam let out a chuckle.
"What?" Danny asked
Sam waved her hands "Nothing, I was just thinking of the face you made after you realized that you had broken your guitar."
"Hey, I thought you said that I was cute!" Tucker protested.
"You are Tucker. Danny's a different kind of cute, like a two year old wearing a tutu."
Tucker burst out laughing
"I need new friends, first Johnny now you." Danny pouted, face crimson in embarrassment.
"What did Johnny do this time?" the goth girl asked.
"He said I was prissy."
"Oh Danny, of course you are." Sam said causing Tucker to laugh again.
"Hey Tucker, have you finished with the specter slicer yet?" Danny asked
"Just about. Why?"
"So I can stab myself with it." The halfa said making the trio laugh.
"You gonna be okay next week with Frostbite and Danielle?" Sam asked
"Yes I will, oh Sam of the very vegan."
The group talked about frostbite, old memories, Danielle and her possibility of getting ice powers and the most dread subject of all: school. At nine Danny called it quits and said bye to his friends, shutting down his computer.
"Dani! I'm going to go for a fly, wanna come?!" he called
"Not this time." She yelled from downstairs.
Danny transformed and flew out of his window. He went flying around at a leisurely pace, almost gliding when his ghost sense went off.
Author's Notes:
I meant to explain this before. Danny is eighteen going onto nineteen but he's going into his senior year of high school. This is because of two things, One: he was born in October, Two, he flunked eight grade, and that's how he met Tucker and Sam, since he repeated the grade he was in the same class as them.
