Battle Of The Mind

Mabel's mindscape was broken.

Everything looked twisted and out of proportion, like an impressionist painting. It was all quiet and there wasn't a single touch of colour anywhere.

"...Bill... Why does this look like a creepy version of Grunkle Stan's mindscape?" I turned around and saw our room properly and gulped. Mabel's bed had been smashed to pieces, whereas my bed was neatly made, but littered with conspiracy papers, all written in code.

"What could that mean?" I whispered to myself.

"Trust me pine tree. You don't want to know." Bill said softly.

We heard Mabel's laughter downstairs, ringing like a bell in a graveyard.

"Its her!" I exclaimed. And swung open the door. I rushed down the stairs, and almost fell down them as one of the steps snapped under my weight. I looked back at the broken step worriedly.

"Bill? This place looks like its been abandoned. But it hasn't has it?" I asked him.

Bill floated over the stairs as looked down sadly at the broken one. "It could mean many things. None of them good."

"Dangit talk straight you stupid Dorito!" I snapped.

Bill frowned. "Don't take that tone with me Pine tree. Or I'll throw our body off the roof of the Mystery Shack when we wake up."

I gulped. He had done that before.

I reached the bottom of the stairs and looked around. I headed for the first door and opened it, looking into the Gift Shop.

Empty. It had all been cleared out of merchandize. An empty postcard rack lay on the floor, while the windows were all broken through. Glass littered the floor.

The only things untouched were the rows of Pine tree hats on the shelf. They were spotless and in neat rows, as if someone had just put them there moments ago with extreme care.

I gulped. "...I... I did this?"

"Well. Yes I suppose." Bill said.

I headed for the screen door and opened it. Gasping.

A huge black abyss was outside. Littered with debris from Mabel's Childhood. Her crushes floated by on a barren rock, clinging to each other as they tried not to fall. Our house in Piedmont, half broken into pieces, hovered a few feet below them. Hundreds of small islands containing shattered shards of memories and people.

"Please... Tell me the spell did all of this." I whispered.

"I wish I could... But you heard what her Subconscious said. I think it was mostly like this already." Bill said. I looked sideways at him. He was gazing at the abyss with a sort of... Longing.

"What... What is it Bill?" I asked.

"Oh... Nothing... I just remembered all the times I've seen a mind crumble like this. Of course it was always me behind it. Who knew you would be so destructive as well."

I stared at him. And then before I knew it my fist had pulled back and was heading for the demon's eye. I punched it as hard as i could and Bill reeled back. "OW! MY EYE! PINE TREE!"

"That is my sister." I hissed. "Don't you ever say things like that again! I am nothing like you!"

I walked out of the Gift Shop and went down the hall. Then I heard Mabel laugh.

"Mabel?" I called out. And walked past the TV room doorway. I froze. Looking inside.

There was Mabel. A black and white Waddles was in her arms as she watched ...me?

I blinked as I watched the Dipper in front of me do what looked like an impression of Grunkle Stan. Mabel was laughing, "wow! You got him dead on Dip!" She smiled.

"Mabel...?" I asked. More to myself than to her. But she turned her head.

"...huh?" She looked at me, then turned back to the other Dipper, then at me again.

"Mabel!" I had found her. I rushed forwards and hugged her, sending her stumbling back.

"Wow. I'm confused." Mabel said.

"Mabel! Get away from it!" The other Dipper said, pulling her away from me.

"Hey! Give her back!" I protested. Trying to move forwards.

"Don't take another step!" The other Dipper ordered. "Don't listen to it Mabel! Its a trick!"

Again. Again with the lying. Why did it feel like everything around me was trying to keep us apart?

"Bill! I found her!" I called.

Bill teleported beside me. "I still haven't forgiven you Pine Tree." He grumbled, rubbing his eye.

"I'll apologize later." I rolled my eyes.

Bill looked the other Dipper up and down. "Ah. So you've found the spell."

"Wait. That's the spell?" I exclaimed, "great! Let's get rid of it!"

"Not that simple." Bill muttered.

I glared at him. "What?"

"Only Mabel can get rid of the spell. All we can do is try to save her." Bill looked down.

"And you couldn't have mentioned this sooner?" I said disbelievingly. Of all the times to mention something that vital...

I turned to Mabel. "Alright. Listen. I know this doesn't make much sense. I know you probably don't believe me. But please Mabel, that thing there isn't me. It's a spell that I put in your mind to make you forget me. Just please, you have to believe me..."

"Dipper can't do spells! And he doesn't side with evil Dream Demons!" Mabel cried.

"Please Mabel. You have to try to remember..."

"Don't listen to it. I'm your real Brother Mabel. You can trust me." The spell said comfortingly to her.

"You shut up!" I snapped.

Mabel looked down at the ground. "I don't understand..." She whispered.

"Please. Mabel. I'm not Bill and I'm not Alcor! Grunkle Stan even told you and now please just give me a chance to explain!"

"Who... Who's Alcor?" Mabel asked softly, furrowing her brow. Her eyes never left the floor.

The spell grinned triumphantly at me. And it's irises turned a pitch black.

"Mabel. Please." I had nothing more I could say. I was fighting a losing battle. She couldn't even remember what was happening.

I was losing my sister before my eyes and I couldn't do anything about it! What was wrong with me? Why couldn't I stop this? Why couldn't I save her?

I closed my eyes. "I... I'm so, so sorry. I never meant for this to happen. I... I'm such an idiot!" I crumbled to the floor. Feeling the worn carpet on my hands as they curled into fists. "It's all my fault! I should never have taken away your memories! I should never have left! All I've done is make everything so, so much worse! I've made all the wrong choices and you've had to pay for it! And now... Now you won't remember anything! You're losing everything and all I can do is sit here and take it! Mabel, to me you're the most important person in the multiverse... I want to fight for you! I want to save you! And I... I can't..." I began crying. Silently. My voice died as I began shaking with sobs.

How could I be so weak? What was the point of all this power if I still couldn't save her?

I was just so pathetic...

I felt something touch my hand. And opened my eyes.

And there was Mabel. She was crying. And a bright white light seemed to emanate from her.

"D-Dipper... You're the real Dipper! You're my brother!" She threw her arms around me and her body glowed brighter.

The other me hissed and screeched, it grew long black claws, and snarling, it lunged for me.

Yeah. I know. Cheesy
