The Dawn of Fire
I wiggled my foot again. "How did this happen?", I wondered aloud. "Have you ever broken anything before?", Alfred asked slightly hesitantly. I shook my head no. "Well, maybe we should figure this out a bit more later since we have a few more pressing matters, like the fact that we are stranded in the middle of the woods.", Arthur said.
We successfully built a medium sized shelter from the parachutes and branches. It was actually a little warm in there, but it would have been better with a fire. Alfred was using a bit of the parachute as a net to try and catch fish, but was not being successful in any way, shape, or form. He slipped in the water and fell on his face. England snorted, earning a glare from America. Alfred peeled his sopping wet shirt off and laid it in the fading sun. The bad train of thought returned.
I got a long, bendy stick and tied a parachute cord onto it. I had Germany bend a spare bobby pin I found in my pocket into a hook shape. Then, I went a little ways away from our camp and cast out my makeshift rod. I could here the country's yelling faintly from were I was.
"Italy, put some clothes on!"
Holy Roman Empire, I left just in time, I thought with a slight smile. I swished the rod around in the water, hoping to catch a fish. I had always loved the ocean or just water in general, so I felt at home here. I heard the countries bicker and attempt to make a fire. I could tell they were having no such luck. Suddenly, a big jolt caught on my rod. I pulled and pulled. It was much harder without a reel. After a few minutes, a gleaming trout lay on the sand next to me. My arms burned and my breathing was heavy. After a few minutes, I picked up the fish and walked back to camp.
Now that we had the fish, how were we supposed to cook it? We had no fire until Germany remembered something I had learned in school a while back. "America, hand me your glasses.", the country said. He held them up and sun concentrated into a single beam using the glasses as a filter. As the sun went down, a fire was lit.
"WE HAVE MADE FIREEE!", I yelled out. America called out a Indian sounding war cry, to which Italy joined in. We all started dancing around the fire in a tribal sort of way. The more mature countries watched us, exasperatedly. Italy grabbed Germany's hand and pulled him around the circle with us, much to his discontent. America and I looked at each other, than each took one of Arthur's hands and dragged him up. He tried to sit down again but we wouldn't let him. As we forcefully dragged him in our fire circle. America and I laughed.
Alfred's blue eyes reflected the warm glow of the fire. After a while we all flopped down in the sand. Everyone was hungry, having not eaten all day.
"I'll cook the fish.", Arthur offered.
"NO!!"
