Chapter Two
Lily's POV
I smile as I follow him out to his truck. He opens the passenger side door, and I climb in as he shuts the door behind me. He quickly walks over to the driver's side and climbs in, starting the truck. It roars to life, and he heads away from the hospital. The ride is quiet as we eventually head into the mall and I look over to him with a questioning look.
"What are we doing here? I thought we were headed to your house?"
"We will soon. You need some clothes, don't you?"
"Yes, but you don't need to make a fuss over me. I would be okay with Walmart clothes."
"I am buying so you will be wearing decent clothes."
"Walmart is decent."
"Not for you. Come on, let's go in."
I just roll my eyes as I climb out of the truck and we head inside. We spent the afternoon shopping for clothes for me. He tries to buy me everything I see but I won't let him. He is too kind. We eventually end up at the lingerie shop. I stop at the door as a blush forms across my cheeks and heat rises in my chest.
"I can't go in there with you."
"Why not, it's just bras and panties."
"I don't know you and I would be embarrassed to know you knew what I was wearing underneath my clothes."
He looked at me and smiled, as he took his wallet out and pulled out his credit card, handing it to me. I shake my head and he takes my hand and places it in mine.
"You go in and get what you need. If I don't see a big bag, I will take you in there with me and pick them out myself."
He smiles at me again and I blush. I turn to walk in and say over my shoulder.
"I will pay you back for this, when I finally get a job."
"We'll worry about that when the time comes. For now you worry about healing."
I quickly ran inside and found what I needed, making sure I had plenty. I didn't need him to drag me back in picking things out for me, or did I? I still couldn't comprehend why this man was being so kind to me. He didn't know me at all and found me wandering the road. I wish I knew who I was and where I came from. Did I have a family that was worried about me, or a boyfriend? I don't think I had a husband. I didn't have any wedding rings on. What happened to me? I was told I was found in the middle of nowhere. There was no car or any buildings around. Something bad had to have happened, because of the injuries I had. I just wish I knew. I finished with what I had and walked out to sit next to him on the bench. As I sat down as a migraine slammed into me and nausea set in.
"Are you okay, Lilly? He asked me.
"My head is pounding and I feel nauseous."
"You haven't taken any medication lately. I think it is time for them, and time for lunch. Are you hungry?"
"I am, but I don't think I could eat right now."
"Let's get your meds, and find something light to eat. That should make you feel better."
We headed over to the food court and got something to eat. I took my meds and tried to eat something. It helped a little, but my head was still pounding.
"Come on, let's get you home. You can lay down and rest."
"That sounds nice."
He grabs my bags and we head out to the truck. He places the bags in the back and we head to his house. As we were headed to his house the meds kicked in and I had fallen asleep.

Nathan's POV
I pulled into the driveway and parked. Looking over I see that Lilly is sound asleep. Going over to her side, I carefully lift her up and carry her inside. Rufus comes running to me and jumping.
"Shh, buddy, you have to be quiet. You don't want to wake our guest. She needs to rest. You can greet her later."
"Carrying her up to one of the spare bedrooms, I laid her down and covered her with a spare blanket. Rufus jumps up and curls up to her side.
"Come on buddy, let's leave her alone so she can rest."
He just looks at me and pouts as he lays his head back down. I don't think he is going to leave her.
"Alright, but be gentle with her."
I head back out to the truck and get all the bags and head back to her room. I put away all her clothes, but left the one bag for her since she seemed so shy about it. I can't help but stand and watch her for a minute as she sleeps. Her soft breathing and occasional little snores are cute. What am I going to do with you sweetheart? You have the potential of tearing me apart. I stand and watch a few minutes more. And go downstairs to give her some space. I would have figured that Rufus would come back down eventually but he never did. I guess I have been replaced. That little traitor, I laugh to myself. I had been sitting watching some TV and realized it would soon be dinner time. Heading into the kitchen I pull out some chicken to make. As I'm preparing everything, I hear small footsteps coming down the hall and I see her walk in with a smile on her face.
"Did you have a nice nap?"
"Yes, and I woke up to a furry creature staring at me. Once he knew I was awake, he started licking my face."
She scrunched her little nose when she said that.
Sorry about that, he kinda attached himself to you. He doesn't like too many strangers."
"I guess I should feel honored then?"
"Just a little bit. Are you hungry now? I am making roast chicken with vegetables."
"It smells really good."
I heard her stomach grumbling and we both laughed.
"I take that as a yes? Are you feeling better?"
"That nap helped a lot. I got a little tangled in my sling though."
"Oh yeah, sorry about that. I didn't want to wake you."
"Thank you for putting my clothes away and leaving the one bag for me to put away."
"NO problem. I knew you might have a problem with them, so I hung them up and put the others away."
"You're so sweet."
Now it was my turn to blush as she sat at the counter to watch me cook."
We made small talk as I put everything into the oven and sat down with her.
"So I don't remember anything about me. Can you tell me about you? I know nothing about you."
"Hmm, I was born and raised here in Stillwater. My mother's name is Abby. My father died of a heart attack about five years ago. I am an only child and I own my own construction company."
"Wow, any love interests?"
"No, I was in a long relationship, but we broke up two years ago. I found her cheating on me in our own bed, with my cousin. I threw them both out and bought a new bed that day."
"I'm so sorry."
"Don't be. I had suspected for a long time, but didn't want to believe it. I thought I loved her and she loved me. I was going to propose to her that night."
"Oh my, that is so sad."
"I don't need any pity. I'm glad I found out before we got married or had kids. I found out six months later that she was pregnant and made her get a DNA test and it wasn't mine."
"Whose was it?"
"I don't know but I think it wasn't my cousin's either. I haven't talked to either of them since."
"She sounds like a horrible person. I'm sorry if I offended you."
"No, it's okay. She is a horrible person and I realized that she was probably only with me for the money. Everybody knows me in town and here I'm kind of a celebrity. She craved the attention and what my money could bring her. She never really loved me, just my money."
"That's terrible. How could she do such a thing, she is horrible."
"Okay, I think that dinner is finally ready. Go sit at the table and I will bring it to you."
She walks over to the table and I can't help falling for her just a bit . She seems like a gentle soul and her concern for me after what Jennifer did made my heart squeeze for just a bit. I shake my head as I pull the chicken out of the oven and plate it for both of us. I quickly cut hers into bite size pieces so she can eat easier. I then carry them over to the table and place hers in front of her as I sit across. She looks down at her plate and that smile that I am beginning to love crosses her face.
"Thank you for cutting this up for me."
"You're welcome. I will try to make things easier for you."
We sit and eat in a comfortable silence. It is nice to have someone here again. The house doesn't feel so empty. I could get used to her being here. Once we are finished eating I gather up the plates and take them into the kitchen to clean up. After I finished I walked into the living room and she curled up on the couch and was watching the news. I walk in and sit down in my chair.
"Anything interesting?"
"I was just trying to see if there were any reports of a missing person or any elaborate events that I might recognize."
"You know what How about we play a game. Get your mind off things. You know if you relax, maybe your memories will start to come back."
"That sounds great. What kind of games do you have?"
"I've got cards. We could play a card game. I've got scrabble, monopoly and a few others.
"Something tells me I might have liked scrabble. How about we play that?"
"Okay"
"I go into the closet and pull out the game and set it up on the kitchen table. She comes in and sits down. I let her start the game and she pulled out a big word and I realized I have met my match. The evening is filled with laughs and taunts. We stop for a bit to feed Rufus and let him outside for a bit. We stand outside as I throw his favorite ball for him for a while and we go back inside to finish the game. I don't remember the last time I had so much fun. It was starting to get late and I could see Lilly yawning. It wasn't long after that she had beaten me. We decided to call it a night and after cleaning up we started to head upstairs.
"Make sure you take your meds."
"Got it, boss."
She heads off to take them and she is soon behind me as we walk upstairs. Once we reach our doors, she turns to me.
"Good night, Nathan."
"Good night, Lilly. Sweet dreams."
She smiles at me as she walks to her room and closes the door. Rufus runs over to the door and sits down whining.
"Come on buddy, you can see her tomorrow."
Rufus slowly gets up and follows me into our room and climbs into his bed sulking.
"I know buddy, I kinda wish I was with her too."
"I climb into bed and close my eyes as I will myself to go to sleep. I tossed and turned for a long time seeing the blonde haired woman that is sleeping next door to me in my dreams. Once I had finally gotten to sleep, screams woke me up. I sit up quickly and I hear the coming from next door. I hurriedly climbed out of bed and ran next door. As I enter her room, I see her twisting and turning like she is trying to fight someone off. She is tangled in the covers.
"Ahhhh, no! Stop, don't hurt him, please. He didn't do anything! Aaaah! I don't know anything! Stop, you're hurting me!"
I quickly run over and grab her pulling her to me and try to hold her still as I softly brush her hair.
"Lilly, wake up. Sweetheart, you're having a bad dream. It's okay, you're safe. Lilly, please wake up.
I kiss the top of her head and hold her still. She slowly begins to soften in my grasp as she wakes up and looks at me. She blinks at me and soon begins to cry.
"Oh my god, I don't know what that was."
"It's okay. It may have been a memory. Do you remember any of it?"
"Only that I was in what I think was a warehouse? There were several men and they were beating another man. One came over and started hitting me. I don't understand."
It will be okay. Your memories are slowly coming back."
"It's like I was watching a movie. I don't remember any of it."
"You will be okay. Are you okay with me going back to my room?"
"Could you stay until I fall asleep?"
"Sure, if it makes you feel better."
I straighten out the covers as she crawls back under them and curls up to my chest. I softly rub her back as she slowly falls asleep .I lay there for a while, because I can't pull myself away from her. When I think she is sleeping soundly, I slowly pull myself out from under her and slowly walk back to my room. I wish I could have stayed with her all night. She doesn't need me complicating things. She needs to find out who she is. She probably has a family and a man somewhere looking for her. I crawl back into bed and lay there staring at the ceiling. What was she afraid of? Who were the men that were beating her and who was the man she was trying to save? How can I help her? I lay there thinking about what happened and eventually fall into a worried sleep.
