Chapter Three

Lilly's POV

I sit up out of bed quickly as I wake from another bad dream. This one was much easier than the last. Now that I'm awake I don't remember it at all. I rub my face trying to wake up. It seems early but I know I won't be able to go back to sleep. I get out of bed and put my robe on as I head downstairs and into the kitchen, quickly finding the coffee pot and carefully looking for the coffee. Once I get it started I look for ingredients to make breakfast. He made dinner for us last night so I thought I could make breakfast. It was easy enough or so I thought. Breakfast is not a one handed meal. I had decided on pancakes and bacon. I think I was making more of a mess when I heard footsteps coming into the kitchen.

"Good morning, someone is being adventurous this morning."
"I'm trying. You made such a wonderful dinner. I thought I could make breakfast. It's proving harder than I thought with one hand."

"Hmmhmm, here let me help you. It does smell good though."
"I already made coffee."
"You have found the way to my heart, coffee. Thank you, much needed in the morning." He says after he has prepared a cup and has taken the first sip.

"Not a morning person are we?"

"Not at all."
After he had taken several big gulps of his coffee and set it down on the counter. He came over and helped me with the pancakes.

"You have been doing a good job by yourself though, thank you."
He quickly made several perfect ones and added them to the ones I tried to do. We took everything over to the table and set down and started eating. We fell into an easy conversation and soon his phone began to ring.

"Hey what's up?"

"Sorry to bother you, but you need to come down here, man, They are trying to deliver the wrong supplies. They say it's what you ordered."

"Damn, I will be down there as soon as I can."

He hangs up the phone and puts his empty plate in the kitchen and starts to head upstairs.

"That was one of my guys, Eric. There is a problem down at the build site. Will you be okay by yourself?"

"Yes, I will be fine."

"Call me if you need anything."
"How do I do that?"
"Crap, I will pick up a phone for you on my way home. I shouldn't be gone but a couple of hours."

"Alright, be careful. Don't kill anybody." I laugh as he heads upstairs to get dressed.

"I'll try not to."

He is quickly back down after he gets dressed, grabbing his keys as he heads out the door.

"Lock the door behind me, please."

"I will. See you later."
I walk over and lock the door and turn around to Rufus sitting behind me. I reach down and pat his head.

"Alright buddy, what should we do while your daddy is gone?"

"Woof, woof"

We head out to the backyard for a bit as I throw his ball around and let him do his business. Eventually we head back inside and I head into the kitchen and try to clean up breakfast. I soon hear a knock at the door and for some reason I tense up as I freeze. I hear the knock again and I slowly walk to the front door. Rufus comes up behind me and quickly starts jumping around excitedly and barking.

"Who is it?" I ask nervously.

"It's Nathan's mom, sweetheart. Don't be afraid."

I cautiously open the door and there stands in front of me a beautiful older woman with a huge smile on her face.

"Good morning dear. Nathan called me to come sit with you while he is busy at work. He didn't like that you didn't have a phone and were by yourself."
"Thank you, come in."
She follows me inside and I head back into the kitchen to finish cleaning up. I walk over to the sink and start to clean as she walks over and grabs the plates from me.

"Sweetheart, let me do that. You don't want your cast to get wet. I can take care of it."

"Are you sure? I don't want you to feel like my maid."

It's no problem dear. I don't mind. So you have no memory of where you are from or how you got here?"

"Not one. I wish I did. It scares me."
"It will come to you when you're ready, don't push it."
"I know. I just hate it."
"So how are you feeling?"

"I'm actually doing okay today. I don't hurt so bad today."
"That's good. Now that the dishes are done, how about we go sit down and talk for a bit."
That sounds good." We walk into the living room and sit down on the couch together.

"Nathan told me a little about himself but he didn't tell me about you. What is it you do?"

"I actually own my own flower shop. I don't go in as often as I used to. I have several employees who take care of it for me."

"Oh, that is nice. Have you always lived here?"

"My family moved here when I was a little girl. My husband and I were high school sweethearts."
"I'm so sorry for your loss. Nathan told me you lost him five years ago."

"Thank you, it was sudden. He never knew what hit him. He was helping Nathan at a job site and fell over dead."
"Oh, that's terrible. He didn't tell me that."
"He doesn't like to talk about it much. I think he still blames himself."
"Aw, he's got to know it wasn't his fault."
"I think he does deep down but he can't forgive himself."

We sit and talk for several hours as Abby tells me stories of Nathan's childhood. A few embarrassing ones, too. I am really enjoying my time with Abby. She is a sweet woman and I can see where Nathan gets his caring nature from. Soon I hear the door unlock and then Nathan's voice.

"Lilly?"
"We are in the living room, Nathan."

He comes into the room and he smiles when he sees me. He walks over and kisses his mom on the cheek and soon we hear Rufus coming down the hall and soon is jumping all over him. We all laugh as he leans down to pet him and Rufus is jumping and spinning as Nathan tries to calm him.

"Is he always like this?"
"Bark! Bark!"

"Pretty much, you would think we never see each other that much. He has gotten me through some tough times."
Once Rufus settles down a bit, he b rings me a bag. I look inside and it is the phone he promised me.

"Thank you"
"You're welcome. I already put mine and my mom's number in it. I feel better knowing you can get in touch with either one of us and I can get in touch with you when I need to."
"Makes me feel better too. Not sure why, but it does. Whenever I get back on my feet and get a job, I will pay you back."

"Don't worry about that. Focus on your healing and getting your memories back."
"Whenever you feel ready, you can come work at the flower shop." Abby offers with a smile.

"Oh, I would love that."

"Just let me know when you're ready."

"Thank you, you are both too kind."
"Well, looks like you both have it handled so I'm going to head home."
"Thank you mom, are we still having Sunday dinner at your house?"
"Absolutely, you know we never miss that. Tell the boys they can come too."
"I will, mom. See you Sunday."
"Alright see you both Sunday and don't be late."

"We won't."

"Goodbye Abby and thank you."

She heads out and we both sit down and relax. I can feel a headache coming on and I start to rub my temples.

"Are you okay, Lilly?"
"Yeah, just a little headache."
"Have you taken your meds today?"

"No, I have been doing good today so I haven't bothered."

"I'll go get them for you."
"Thank you."

He goes out to get my pain meds and soon comes back with them and a glass of water. I take them and lay down trying to will it away before it gets too bad. They soon kick in and I am out like a light. A few hours later I wake up and am covered with a blanket and I can smell something good coming from the kitchen. I slowly get up and head in. I see Nathan cooking and he turns around.

"Hey, feeling better?"

"Yeah, the headache is gone."

"Good, how about some pork chops tonight?"
"They smell amazing and I am hungry."
He finishes up and brings out plates to the table and again my plate is cut up for me. I can't get over how nice this man is to me, and all the things this man has done for me in the last couple days. Once we finish we clean up and decide on another game of scrabble.

"Will you be okay if I go back to work tomorrow?"
"I think I should be, and besides I have a phone now, so I can call you if I need you."

"That's true. I just hate leaving you alone."
"I'll be fine Nathan. Don't worry so much, and I have Rufus to keep me company."
He chuckles a little at that. We spend a few hours playing and finally head up to bed. He stops again before he goes into his bedroom.

"Good night Lilly, holler if you need anything."

"Good night Nathan, I will call if I need anything. Sweet dreams."
"You too."
I watch as he walks into his room and I go inside and change into my pajamas and crawl under the covers and soon am fast asleep.
