Family time

Collins P.O.V
I stare at dad, a little taken back. "What?! A movie?" Dad nods happily "yup. You two have been stressed with you tube lately so we thought you guys could use a distraction. A movie ought to do it."

Devan's starting to get that cheeky grin he does when he know he'll be able to get what he wants. "What movie?" Our parents shrug "whatever. With some limits of course. Why don't you look up what's playing dev."

Devan turns to the computer behind us. He pushes my chair away from the computer so he can get closer "hey! Devan!" He gives another cheeky grin and searches up theaters near us. I grunt in annoyance and move my chair back to the computer. "Let me see bro." He moves over a little and we set to work.

"Ok. Let's go in and get some good seats before it gets crazy packed in there." Mom pulls into the parking lot and we step out into the warm summer day.

Collins and I picked out The Italian Job which none of us have seen but the trailer looked good. Mom gets our tickets while Collins and I look at the food. Dad comes up behind us "Collins, why don't you go with mom and save some seats? Devan and I will get the food."

Collins shrugs "ok!" and walks back to mom. Suddenly he stops and turns around "you know what I want right?" "Yeah of course we know dude! Popcorn, coke, and skittles. Don't worry we got you." Dad exclaims slightly annoyed and I chuckle. Collins grins and runs after mom.

Dad and I turn and back to the food. "Is it cool if Collins and you share a popcorn? I'll get the large refill." I nod "yeah sure. No problem." He nods his thanks while I grab some candy. "Let's see...skittles for Collins, m&m's for mom, whoppers for dad, and milk-duds for me. Hey I wonder if I could get dad to get us some other stuff too."

I turn back to dad and I can feel a smile forming on my lips. "Hey dad..." He looks over and sighs "fine. One more thing for everyone." I grin wider "thanks dad!" Turning back to the candy I randomly grab four more packs of candy. I honestly don't really know what I just grabbed because dads ordering.

"...and the candy as well." He looks back at me and I set the candy down at the counter. The woman behind the counter nods and punches things into the computer. "Two large popcorns!" She yells and my stomach growls a little at the smell.

After we get the popcorn is on the counter, dad hands it to me and points to the butter machines "Go for it. Be modest, but you know what your family likes." he says smiling. I grin and walk over pouring a good amount onto each tub. Dad joins me and then together we walk into the theater.

"There they are." dad says pointing to where Collins and mom are waving at us. We go up and join them and I sit next to Collins and dad goes to sit on the other side of mom.

I set the popcorn between Collins and I and put my hand over the top. "Don't eat it all bro, seriously I want some too." He feigns shock "You think I wouldn't leave you any?!" My eyes narrow and he just smiles. "I won't bro, I promise."

Hesitantly I sit back and take my hand off of the top of the popcorn. "Ok. I'm watching you." He grins. "Sure bro. Whatever you need to tell yourself."

"Nice choice boys." I smile "yeah that was pretty good." My eyes catch to Collins dancing around "what's the matter with you?!" He turns to me and whispers "I gotta pee." I shake my head "well you did drink all that soda. Goodness Collins! Calm down!" He's started jumping up and down at this point.

"Come on Collins. Let's go and we'll meet you two up somewhere?" Dad looks questionably at mom who nods. "Yeah now go before Collins pees in his pants." I grin as dad and Collins quickly run off in the direction of the bathrooms.

"He just doesn't get it. If you don't want to pee in your pants, don't drink two large sodas!" Mom laughs and starts walking off. I follow "where are we gonna meet them?" Mom shrugs "maybe outside the bathrooms or something."

We make our way over to the bathrooms and I instantly start looking for a bench to sit down on. Finding one I walk over and sit with mom following me. "Was Collins giving you a hard time earlier?" I look over at her in confusion. "What do you mean? When?"

"When we came downstairs and you guys were shaking about something. You seemed a little...cornered." I shake my head as this weird feeling washes over me. I don't know what it is but it always happens when this topic is brought up.

"No. He was asking about it but I told him I didn't want to talk about it. He kept pressing and I got a little upset." I shrug and look at the floor. It's still weird to make eye contact when talking to someone about it. Even mom.

She nods and reaches for the loose lock of hair that always falls in my face. "He's worried." I nod "I know." then relax as mom strokes my hair. It's always been a weakness of mine. "I'm worried about you too. And so is your father. He was asking me about it upstairs. It's a hard period of time for everyone in the family."

My heart starts beating a little harder in my chest. I'm scared. I know this is coming, I've always known. I was told about it constantly since I was a little baby, but I'm still scared for when it will finally start to kick in.

Mom must see this as she gently turns my head to face hers. "I know this is tough Devan. It was just as scary for me as it is for you. But you can make it through. I did, your grandmother did, your great grandfather did, and generations above have made it. You're no different. I'll always be here and we can always talk to your grandparents too. Through it all Devan, I just want you to remember this:it's not your fault."

I look into her eyes to find only love. I smile. "Thanks mom." A smile forms on her lips as she brings them to my forehead. "You're welcome dev. I love you." "I love you too." I mumble back and put my head in her shoulder. "It's gonna be ok. I have mom, everything will be ok."

"What could possibly be taking them so long?" I chuckle and pull back from her "well it is Collins so." She smiles "I know but you wouldn't think it would  take him that long." Her gaze shifts to the bathrooms. "You want to go check on him?" I wrinkle my nose "not really."

She looks back at me with a smile "Trust me I don't want to either, and I can't, so I guess it's up to you." I groan and stand up. Just as I take a step dad and Collins appear from the doorway. "Hallelujah!" I throw my hands up in relief. Chuckling mom gets up "you got lucky."

"Well, it's about 3:00. What now?" Mom looks in the review mirror at Collins and I as we buckle up. I shrug "I don't have any ideas. Unless Collins does." I look over at my brother as he's struggling with his seat belt and not paying attention.

"Bro." I nudge him and he looks up "What" I stare at him dumbfounded "We asked what you want to do now." He shrugs and looks back down at the seat belt he was still struggling with.

I can feel a smile forming as I watch him get angrier and angrier at the seat belt. "Oh come on!! Seriously?! Stupid thing! Just work!" I laugh as he finally gets it. "Ugh, that was exuasting. Can we go have ice cream?" I laugh and he looks over at me. "What?" a chuckle escapes during his words and I laugh harder. "That was just a fast change." He shrugs with a smile and turns back to mom and dad. "So can we? Please?"

Mom simply starts the car with a smile.

We walk with our ice cream down to the nearby park. I smile when we get there. I love parks.

Flashback
----~|~----

"Collins! Come on! It's only a few branches." I look up to see Devan smiling down at me from a few branches up. His blonde hair swings around his face. "He needs a haircut soon." I look back down at my foot stuck in between two branches.

"I can't Devan. I'm stuck. Come help me please." He starts to descend the tree like a monkey. He gets to my level and grabs the branch I'm holding onto. "Woah! Devan be careful." He ignores me and looks down at my foot. "How did you do that?!!" A bought of laughter overtakes him and I can't help but laugh as well. "I don't know!!"

----~|~----

"Collins! Earth to Collins! Anyone there?" A hand is waved in front of my face and I snap out of my haze. "What? Yeah I'm here. What's going on?" Devan lightly punches me in the arm "you've gotta stay with us bro. We asked you if you liked you ice cream."

I grin and nod "heck yeah!" Devan rolls his eyes with a smile. "Hey! What was that about?" He shrugs but there's still a smile on his face. Narrowing my eyes I stare at him. "Bruh. Hey where are mom and dad?" "They went to the bathroom."

I follow him as he starts to wander down the lawn. Finishing my ice cream I run ahead of Devan and throw it into a garbage can. Turning back I look at Devan as he makes his way over to me.

My mind wanders back to earlier. I can't help it. "Something's wrong. What is it? Why won't either of them tell us?" I open my mouth then hesitate and close it again, remembering my deal with Devan. "If he doesn't want to tell then he won't. I can't push him."

He gives me a funny look. "What." I shake my head breaking eye contact "nothing." Out of the corner of my eye I see Devan stare at me for a second. "Just...drop it please." I look back up at him and raise my hands. "I did. I didn't say anything. I promise! I just can't help but keep wondering what happening."

Devan sighs and turns away to continue walking. I jog to catch up with him. "I'm sorry Devan. I keep trying to forget but I just can't. Don't get mad at me bro. I swear I'm trying my best to drop it." I stop walking and pull on Devans shoulder. He winces slightly and I remember that his shoulder still hurts from years ago sometimes. I quickly let go.

"Sorry, but please don't be mad. I swear I'm trying." He sighs again and look down at the grass beneath us. "Look Collins. It's...it's not like I don't want to tell you, I just...can't. It's not just something I have against you or dad, it's a lot me and some other things. I've just got to get through this. I don't mean to cut you out Collins, but I...I kinda have too."

He looks back up at me with pleading eyes. "Please just understand and let it go ok?" I swallow then nod "sure bro. I'm sorry for pushing, I swear I'm trying to let it go." He nods "I know you are bro and I appreciate it."
