Chapter 6

The air around me shifted and my body tensed in response. I kept my eyes on my children, but I slowly lowered my hands under the table, laying them over the handle of the knife hidden in my jeans. "Hello Sang, it's been a while."

A man spoke as he slid onto the bench beside me and I slowly relaxed but didn't let my guard down. "Axel," I say softly nodding at him. My eyes briefly glanced at him before turning back to the laughing faces I lived for. The years had been good to him. "Why is your team here?"

The question fell from my lips before I knew I was speaking and from the tense set of his shoulders, I knew that my question threw Axel for a loop. "We're looking for the Blackbourne team."

"That doesn't explain why you're here," I say with a shrug. "Everyone knows just how close you were with them..."

"That's the key word there Axel," I say as I give him a weak smile. "I used to be close to them. But then they lost their memory and I left. And I haven't seen them since I walked out of their hospital room six years ago." Silence fell between us. "Raven told me what he suspects," Axel spoke softly as he watched the twins climbing up the kiddy rock wall.

"And just what is it that he suspects?"

"Raven told me that North is their father," Axel spoke as he motioned towards the twins. A glance at his eyes told me that his mind was turning hard. Anyone that knew North Taylor would tell you all the same thing: his family was the most important thing in this world to him. "No." My voice was hard and cold as I suddenly stood up.

Axel gave me a confused look but then understanding settled over his face. "Sang..."

"I said no, Axel. I will not let you use myself or my children to help you and your team track down the Blackbournes." I squared my shoulders as I forced myself to hold his gaze. "If I so much as think that you or any member of your team is near my family, I will not hesitate to call Phil Roberts and have you pulled from this mission."

Axel's face paled at my words but I didn't care. The me that he was facing right now was a version that no one I ever knew, knew about. I was a mother protecting her children, and I was willing to take on the whole Academy to keep them safe. "Now, I haven't spoken to Phil in almost six years. So I don't imagine that he would appreciate that my first call to him would be to inform him that one of his teams is harassing me and my children."

"No," Axel said slowly as he stood up as well. "I don't think Dr. Roberts would like a phone call like that as well. I'm sorry." I watched as he dropped his head and his shoulders dropped. I sighed deeply as I pinched the bridge of my nose.

"It's not your fault Axel," I speak softly but I know he hears me. "I've walked away from everything Academy a long time ago and I thought that I was finally free of it- them... And yet," I say as I gesture around me. "Here they are again. I don't know where Owen and the others are. I swear that I haven't spoken or seen them. Though," I couldn't stop the smirk that crossed my lips, "if I had, I wouldn't tell you. They are family after all."

"And family comes first," Axel finished the sentence. I nod at him. I sighed again as I started gathering the trio's things. "It won't matter anyway in a couple of days." I hadn't realized I had spoken until Axel's eyes bore into mine. "What do you mean Sang?"

"I mean that my children and I won't be here anymore. It's time to move on to somewhere new." Looking over my shoulder, I call out to Weston to bring the other two to the car. "Goodbye, Axel. It was nice seeing you again, but I hope that it'll be the last time." He nodded, his eyes filled with sadness and understanding.

The screen of Victor's computer flickered to life as one by one, the tiny squares began to show him different views of the inside of his neighbor's house. "That's good right there North," Victor said softly as the last camera came online. They had every room except for the bathrooms bugged.

"Sang and her three are very active," Silas commented as he came to stand behind Victor staring at the screen. "They're either at the park or the zoo almost every day."

"She has done a great job raising them Si," Victor said as he looked up at his brother. "That she did," Silas agreed softly. Victor suddenly shook his head, chuckling. "I can't picture either Sean or North as a father. I'm sure that they'd make great dads, but it's hard seeing them in that role." Silas laughed as he agreed with him.

The sound of doors slamming had both men jumping. Glancing at the screen, Silas watched as Sang, Seren, Weston and Easton entered the house. Sang made her way into the kitchen and began to cook while the children changed clothes and began to play the violins that they had seen in the living room earlier. Silas noticed that Victor sat frozen in his chair as a familiar tune flowed from the speakers.

"I recognize this song. What's it called again?"

"Winter... It's by Vivaldi." Victor's voice was almost a whisper as he watched the triplets playing. He kept rubbing his face and Silas knew that he was doing his best to keep from crying. "We'll get her back brother," Silas said as he laid his hand on Victor's shoulder. "She and her children are our life now and without them..." He let his words fade as Victor nodded. Without them, there was no reason for their hearts to beat.
