prologue - first meeting
THE FAST AND THE FURIOUS
PROLOGUE - FIRST MEETING
As usual, it was another hot sunny day in Los Angeles. The weather was so suffocating and humid but it was always like that, especially during this month. Ellie Toretto was stuck working as a waitress at her family's Market & Cafe where the tables were empty except for her slightly younger sister who sat in a chair working on her homework. After all, Mia was the one attending college. But occasionally, the younger sister would ask for help or a customer would come in to buy a thing or two.
But other than that, it was pretty empty. The day was moving extra slowly, and the heat was not helpful. So, Ellie's work uniform always consisted of summer dresses and skirts. Today was no different, the brunette wore a short denim skirt with a white top that wrapped around her neck. She paired the outfit with white and blue Adidas, giving her a casual summer look. Her favorite and special necklace also hung on her neck which she often played with when nervous.
Ellie grabbed a towel from underneath the counter and started to wipe away the mess the last customer left when Mia looked up and saw a group of teenage boys walk in laughing. Mia chuckled to herself when she watched the boys try to push forward one of the friends towards Ellie. The boy had a crush on her sister; that was obvious.
Mia looked at her older sister, wanting to see her reaction. They sometimes made jokes about the young boys that only go there to make eyes at both of them. Mainly because the moment Dom or the others show up, they immediately run away like lost puppies. But instead, Mia saw her not paying attention and looking down at the magazine in her hand. Ellie's eyes were focused on the car parts and different cars shown in the magazine.
Ellie would normally read a book or spend her time flipping through magazines when she wasn't busy doing anything at work and since her boss was her brother, he didn't care. "El, can you check this?"
Ellie finally looked up, walked towards her sister, and turned the school book over, looking over the math problem in her hand and checking her sister's work.
But while no one was paying attention, a certain Brian O'Conner stepped into the small area taking a seat in one of the stall seats. However, for the first time, he wasn't Brian O'Connor and instead was an undercover cop going by, Brian Earl Spilner.
The blonde kept his blue eyes on the pretty girl behind the counter, watching as she grabbed the pen and started to write something down. His eyes followed her every move as they traveled on her figure. Eyeing her up and down before they stayed on her face.
Brian knew exactly who she was, seeing as he'd stared at her surveillance pictures multiple times. As a matter of fact, he knew Toretto's entire gang by name. But Ellie had always stuck out to him, she was beautiful.
But this was the first time, he was making contact with his marks sister. Or sisters, if he gets the chance to speak to the younger one doing her homework.
Mia nods, seeing her older sister fix her mistakes, and casually looks up. But her eyes widened when she noticed a customer sitting down. However, Mia couldn't help but smile when she saw the look this stranger was giving Ellie. His gaze was stuck on Ellie as if trying to figure her out. Which was strange but Mia didn't think much of it.
Ohh, he's cute for Ellie. And exactly her type, Mia thought to herself. Before nudging her sister to look that way, "There's a customer."
Ellie turns her head to the side, and Mia's words are true. But to her surprise, it wasn't a regular. Instead, it was a guy she'd never seen before. Which was a bit odd since they rarely got new customers - actually no. They get new customers every once in a while but most aren't returning customers since they don't come back.
Their eyes met and Ellie took a moment to eye him, he looked a bit out of place. But it was his striking blue eyes that grabbed her attention, that and his handsome face. He had an athlete-built body and was very handsome, that much was obvious.
Ellie's attention was immediately captured by the blonde but there was no way she was going to show that. Since his intentions were unclear.
The older sister looks at Mia to see her smirking with an eyebrow raised and can't help but roll her eyes. Knowing exactly what Mia was thinking since this out of place stranger was her type, wanting to distract Mia's attention, Ellie says, "I circled the ones you got wrong, try them again."
Before grabbing her small work notebook and walking a bit forward, eyeing the new face, "You sure you're in the right place, blondie?"
Brian gives a dazzling smile, the kind that would have most girls on their knees. "I'm sure. I heard a pretty waitress worked here and wanted to see if it's true."
Ellie raises an eyebrow, not impressed. Hearing that statement more than once in the past. "Well, I hate to disappoint but my sister isn't working today. Just me." Nodding slightly to the side.
The blonde doesn't even flicker his eyes toward Mia, instead, they stay on her. "Believe me, I'm not disappointed at all."
Ellie doesn't even react, instead clicks her pen and gets ready to write down his order. "Alright, playboy. What can I get you?" She asked since he had a menu opened in front of him.
Brian's eyes move down to the menu seeing her eyes flicker to it, and shrugs, moving it aside, "What do you recommend?"
Tapping her pen on the notebook, slightly bored, "Most come for the cheeseburger with fries but anything other than the tuna is average tasting,"
Mia eyes her sister and rolls her eyes, knowing that just like always her slightly older sister closed herself around unknown people, never letting anyone new in.
As if wanting to get a reaction out of her, or weirdly impress her, Brian gives a dazzling smile, "I'll have the tuna sandwich,"
Ellie looked at him in disbelief and Brian smirked silently congratulating himself for finally getting a reaction out of her besides boredom.
"I'm gonna be honest with you, blondie-" He cuts her off. "Brian," wanting the girl to know his name. Since he already knows hers. Even if he can't say it since that would just be odd and stalkerish. Brian also wanted to hear it from her.
Ellie continues, not batting an eye, "The tuna here is shit and nobody likes it, it's really terrible."
"It's alright, I'll still go with the tuna sandwich on white with no crust. And a coke, please." He reassures her with a genuine smile, not forgetting his manners. Ellie gives a nod, and looks down at her small notebook, writing down on the order.
When Ellie looks up again, she's a bit surprised to see Brian still looking at her. Normally most guys who go in there just to flirt with her, don't make it so obvious or straightforward.
"I'm Brian Spilner," He says, holding his hand out for a handshake. Ellie stares at the hand for a moment, before slowly placing her hand in his outreaching one. His hold was strong; firm but gentle.
"You really don't know my name?" Ellie asks, her tone is a bit surprised since most guys come to not only try and get in her pants but also to form an alliance with her brother.
If Ellie's being honest with herself, most guys just want to get close to her because it'll mean being close to Dom. Everyone wanted to be his friend, or alliance, just never his enemy.
"Should I?" Brian asks with a raised eyebrow, letting go of her delicate soft hand. Realizing exactly what she meant by the question but still, he was a pro at his job and wouldn't show the wrong emotion. Especially not with her eyeing him to see a reaction.
Ellie thinks for a moment before shaking her head, "No, you shouldn't. Eliana Toretto, but everyone calls me Ellie."
The brunette doesn't take her eyes off him, wanting to see if he showed any interest or gave away any reaction to her last name. When he doesn't give one, Ellie finally realizes his intentions may not be so bad.
So she gives him a small smile. At that moment, Brian knew he would do anything to get her to smile at him again. "Your sandwich will be ready in a bit, Brian."
His eyes once again eye her figure as she turns around, but clears his throat when he looks to the side and sees Mia looking at him with a raised eyebrow. Brian takes his eyes off the sisters and looks around the place, mentally praising himself for finally getting a smile out of her.
He chuckles when he finally notices the group of teenage boys looking at Ellie with wonder and amazement. The girl's earlier words were truly out of place, she really is pretty. Anyone with eyes could see.
Ellie finishes making the sandwich pretty quickly and places the plate and cup in front of Brain with a smirk. Leaning slightly against the side of the table, crossing her arms to see his reaction. She was wanting to give him the I told you look.
Brain acts like he doesn't notice her waiting for his reaction, and takes a couple bites of the sandwich. He hums slightly, lifting his eyes up to meet hers. "Delicious, thank you."
At this point, Mia is witnessing the scene and has her nose wrinkled, a bit disgusted. The tuna there was truly awful. Both sisters were half expecting him to gag or spit it out.
Before Ellie could comment, the sound of boys laughing made her turn. At her gaze, the boys practically melted. "You ready to pay?"
The one in front nodded. Not being able to come up with words. Brain noticed and chuckled at the girl's unawareness, taking another bite of the sandwich.
The boys just place their snacks on the counter, without a word and let Ellie scan everything. Clueless to Mia and Brain's chuckles.
"That will be $14.68," One of the boys, puts a 10 and 5 on the counter with a smile. Ellie takes it and places it in the cash register. And placing some coins and receipts in the boy's reaching hand.
"Thank you for coming, have a good day boys," Ellie says with a smile. The boys all smile back and wave back, giving "byes" and "thank you's".
Ellie picks up her magazine again and turns around to see both Brian's and Mia's eyes on her, "What?"
"They regulars?" Brain asks, shaking his head. Ellie shrugs, "Yeah, they normally stop by after school for sneaks. Why?"
"They think you're pretty." Brain points out, taking another bite of his sandwich and drinking from the straw.
"He means to say, they like you, Ellie!" Mia yells wiggling her eyebrows playfully.
Ellie rolls her eyes, "Harmless crushes. Besides, it's normal, remember that guy who worked at the ice cream stand-"
Mia's eyes went wide and they flickered to Brian who looked amused, "Ellie!"
Ellie laughs, "I know, I know. I promise never to mention it." Mia glares at her but gets back to her homework. Not wanting Ellie to continue.
That was Ellie's cue to turn back to Brian who had an empty plate and half-empty drink. Shockingly he didn't look like he wanted to throw up or looked sick. Which was what both sisters expected him to be.
"It was delicious, will you be working tomorrow?" Brain shrugs with a smile. Hoping to catch her interest.
"I'll be here," Ellie says crossing her arms, watching him take out his wallet and place multiple bills on the table.
"Then I'll definitely be back tomorrow, keep the change." He says with a smirk before watching him turn around and walk towards his car.
Ellie rolls her eyes but nonetheless smiles, looking a bit forward to tomorrow. Wondering if Brian was really going to come back for another awful-tasting sandwich. The generous tip he also left on the table was nice.
Brian didn't realize that meeting Ellie Toretto wouldn't just complicate his entire mission but also his feelings. He was already getting attached which is a huge issue for the mission. But at that moment as he thought about her, he couldn't find himself to care about the potential problem of giving too close or attached.
