I Think We're Getting Closer
"If I have to listen to this song any longer I am going to go insane."
Arvanlyn growled covering her ears.
"What's wrong with it?"
Ayleen asked tilting her head to the side with a sly smile on her face.
"I think it's nice."
Arvanlyn mumbled something under her breath and turned around to glare at the four hobbits (who were responsible for the singing) as they skipped and danced around singing a very silly song.
And despite herself, she couldn't help but chuckle at their antics.
Frodo: "Now quicker the fiddle went deedle-dum-diddle; the dog began to roar."
Sam: "The cows and the horses stood on their heads, the guests all bounded from their beds amd danced upon the floor."
Merry: "With a ping and a pong the fiddle-strings broke, the cow jumped over the moon, and the little dog laughed to see such fun-"
Esmerelda: "And the Saturday dish went off with at a run with the silver Sunday spoon. The round moon rolled behind the hill as the sun raised up her head."
All Hobbits: "She hardly believed her firey eyes though it was day to her surprise they all went back to bed!
The hobbits erupted into laughter as the song ended. At the front of their party Aragorn and Varonwe shook their head with amused grins on their faces.
Legolas (who had been trying to avoid having his feet stomped on by the dancing hobbits) had to admit that he had enjoyed the song.
"You know, that song wasn't half bad."
He mused to himself.
Unfortunately he forgot that hobbits have sharp ears. Not as good as elves but darn right impressive.
"Did you hear that my fellow hobbits?"
Frodo asked, his face brightening in mischief.
"He wants to hear another one!"
Immediately everyone froze. Sure they enjoyed the hobbits' song but that was enough of "staying true to the book" for one chapter.
"Maybe we should just be quiet for a while?"
Aragorn suggested.
"I guess so."
Merry said crossing his arms amd winking at his sister.
"They just can't handle the amazingness of hobbits."
Es snickered and the other hobbits joined in too.
Knowing that getting into an argument with hobbits was a VERY bad idea Aragorn decided to let them go with it.
"So what exactly are we trying to accomplish again?"
Frodo questioned looking to Aragorn for an answer.
"We are trying to find our friend Winston who went missing and the only way we can do that is bring this coded sticky note he left us to some old guy who lives in the mountains so that he can decode it."
"Are we almost at these said mountains?"
Es asked sounding pretty bored.
"I think so. Varonwe how close are we?"
Aragorn turned to his navigator who was checking Google maps on his phone.
"Just three more miles to go and we're there."
He announced. Beside him Fabulous shook her head fabulously as she walked alongside her new favorite person.
"Only three miles? Great! The sooner we get to the end of the road the better."
Arvanlyn said sighing.
"But the road goes ever on."
Sam said which made his fellow hobbits' faces light up.
"Oh great here we go again."
Aragorn groaned.
All Hobbits: "The-"
"Uh hobbits? Can I ask you all something, alone?"
Legolas' request annoyed the hobbits and relieved the Rangers.
"We'll go on ahead and leave you guys to chat."
Quickly the Rangers ran until they were out of hearing distance.
"What do you want now Leggy Boy?"
Es stomped up to him and put her hands on her hips. She knew exactly what he wanted.
"I just needed to know if you had anymore advice for me."
Legolas rubbed the back of his head nervously as his face turned red.
"What more do you need?!"
Es shouted throwing her hands up in exasperation.
"I just need to know what sort of things a girl usually looks for in a guy, that's all."
"Well if you're Legolas Thranduilion than you're pretty much set."
Frodo bursted out laughing at Merry's comment and both were clutching their stomachs as they laughed.
Sam didn't really get what was so funny and Es ignored them.
"Don't worry my blond friend. There are pleanty of girls who go more for personality than looks."
"Legolas had better get a personality then."
Merry and Frodo started laughing again and Es rolled her eyes.
"Alright, since you want to know Leggy I'll give you a few examples based on my own opinions."
"The only thing you find attractive is food."
More unnecessary Merry and Frodo laughter.
"Oh I see. You all think just because I've never had an interest in this sort of thing I don't have opinions?"
Es snapped beginning to feel very offended.
"Feel free to prove us wrong Es."
Merry said ceasing his laughter.
"Alright. What I look for in a guy is someone who's kind, funny, humble, a great listener, loves going on long walks through a forest, is a great singer, can spell "Mississippi" backwards without messing up, will get me all the pizza I can eat, know how much pizza I can eat so I don't overstuff myself, is extremely loyal, not too worried about his outward appearance, (or what others think about him) and likes me for who I am."
Merry and Frodo blinked once.
"Wow. You actually put some thought into this."
Merry commented.
"Why does he have to be able to spell "Mississippi" backwards?"
Frodo asked.
"What even is a Mississippi?"
Sam scratched his head while trying to figure out the strange word meant.
"How much pizza can you eat without overstuffing yourself?"
Everyone looked at Legolas who shrugged awkwardly.
"What? I'm just curious, I mean, I've seen her eat a lot."
"And I still manage to keep this slim figure."
Es winked and smiled.
"That is because I know my limit for every single kind of food I eat."
"I thought you were trying to help Legolas, not talk about your ability to eat a lot of food."
Merry narrowed his eyes at his sister and then at Legolas.
"Right. So did that give you any ideas at all?"
Es asked turning to her elven companion.
"Actually, I don't really know what she likes, but that did help thanks Es."
Es bowed.
"My pleasure."
She straightened herself and added, "I am expecting full payment for my services after all of this is over."
"You never said that I had to pay you!"
"You're a prince right? You can afford to give me some dough."
"My dad hasn't given me any money in years!"
"Hey guys? We should probably catch up with the others."
Sam pointed in the direction that the Rangers went.
"Fine. We will discuss payment later."
With that Es spun on her heal and the four hobbits and elf went to rejoin the others.
Once they're next chapter rolled around again they would finally reach the old guy who would help them find Winston.
