Chapter 6
~Linwë's POV
Later in the day I headed towards my Father's council room. It was supposed to be a secret council, but Father is terrible at keeping secrets. So I was able to get it out of him. When I arrived they were just getting seated. I sat down next to Ada.
He looked at me. "This is a secret meeting, Linwë, what we are going to be discussing is not for your ears.
"Well, apparently it's not so secret, Ada," I said seriously, mocking my Father.
"Just because you know about it doesn't mean you're invited," he said in a low tone.
"Well, I'm here, aren't I?" I retorted. "You can't just make me leave, I might tell all of Rivendell about the meeting."
"Fine, you can stay," he grumbled.
I looked around at the people seated. I saw Aragorn, I knew Ada frowned upon it, but Arwen was madly in love with him. I noticed many men, though one was looking around with a confident gaze. Intrigued I turned to Elrond. "Ada, who is that one?"
Elrond looked to where I was pointing. "That is Boromir, he is the son of the Steward of Gondor,"
I nodded, then resumed my examination of the council. I saw a few dwarves. I leaned forward, curiously. I hadn't seen dwarves for a long time, and the ones I had met did not stay for long. On a bench near my chair I saw Mithrandir, he nodded politely and I smiled at him. Next to him I saw a hobbit with dark curls and vibrant blue eyes. An image of Legolas appeared in my mind, Legolas' eyes were even brighter than the hobbit's.
My gaze rested on Legolas, who was sitting by Aragorn. He met my gaze and smiled, a small smile, but still a smile. I blushed and turned my head. Unfortunately, Father noticed. He gave me a weird look then turned his attention back to the council.
He cleared his throat and started to speak.
"Strangers from distant lands, friends of old. You have been summoned here to answer the threat of Mordor. Middle Earth stands upon the brink of destruction!"
"None can escape it. You will unite, or you will fall, each race is bound to this fate, this doom." As he said this his gaze stopped on each race, elf, man, dwarf, and finally, the halfling, the Ringbearer.
"Bring up the ring, Frodo," my father commanded.
Frodo stood up timidly, his hand clutching something around his neck. He looked at me, almost as if for reassurance. I nodded and he walks up to the pedestal in the middle of the room. He takes the ring off the chain around his neck and places it on the pedestal.
Frodo walks back to his seat and sits down. He looked relieved, as if a heavy burden was lifted from him, which I guess it was.
Legolas and the red haired dwarf looked at the ring uneasily. The steward's son stood up.
"So it's true,"
I looked at Boromir, curious as to what he was going to say. He looked at the Ring with greed.
"In a dream I saw the eastern sky grow dark, in the west a pale light lingered. A voice was crying, your doom is near at hand, Isildur's bane is found!"
By now he was at the pedestal, reaching his hand out to touch the ring.
Father jumped up, concern etched on his face.
"Boromir!" Father shouted.
The blue sky above us turns black, and Gandalf leapt up out of his seat chanting in Black Speech. Boromir breaks out of his trance and backs up.
Everyone in the room starts to panic, I looked over at Father and he seems to be in pain.
When Gandalf finishes chanting the sky goes back to its blue color. Boromir sat back in his seat in shock.
Father glares at Gandalf in anger. "Never before has anyone uttered words of that tongue here in Imladris!"
"I do not ask your pardon Master Elrond for the Black Speech of Mordor, the ring is all together evil!" Gandalf replied.
"Aye, it is a gift," Boromir said, shaking his head in disagreement.
I frowned. This man was rather curious, bolder than most.
Boromir stood up and started to walk around and talk to everyone.
"A gift to the foes of Morder. Why not use this ring?"
"Long has my father, steward of Gondor, kept the forces of Morder at bay." he continued. "By the blood of our people, are your lands kept safe. Give Gondor the weapon of the enemy, let us use it against him."
"You cannot wield it, none of us can," Aragorn said, making Boromir turn to look at him. "The ring answers to Sauron alone, it has no other master."
"And what would a ranger know of this matter?" Boromir retorted.
Legolas stands up and answers him. "This is no mere ranger. He is Aragorn son of Arathorn. You owe him your allegiance!"
Boromir looks at him in disbelief. I look over at Frodo, he is gaping at Aragorn in amazement.
"Aragorn! This...... is Isildur's heir." Boromir says.
I rolled my eyes, he may be bold, but he wasn't that brightz
"And heir to the throne of Gondor!" Legolas finishes.
Aragorn holds up his hand. Finally someone to stop this nonsense!
"Havo dad, Legolas," Aragorn said. (sit down, Legolas,)
Legolas glares at Boromir one last time before sitting down.
Boromir looks at Legolas and heads back to his seat. "Gondor has no king! Gondor needs no king!"
"Aragorn is right. We cannot use it," Gandalf says.
Father stands up again. "You have only one choice. The ring must be destroyed!"
The dwarf stands up and pulls out his axe. "Then what are we waiting for?"
He goes over to the ring and raises his axe.
"It's not going to work!" I said before he brought it down upon the Ring.
When the axe hits the ring he falls down and his axe lay in pieces around him.
"The ring cannot be destroyed, Gimli, son of Gloin, by any craft that we possess." Father says. "The ring was made in the fire of Mount Doom, only there can it be unmade.
" It must be taken deep into Morder and cast back into the fiery chasm whence it came! One of you, must do this." He finishes grimly.
"One does not simply walk into Mordor. Its black gates are guarded by more than just orcs." Boromir said. "There is evil there that does not sleep, and the great eye is ever watchful.
"Tis a barren wasteland, riddled with fire and ash and dust. The very air you breathe is a poisonous fume. Not with ten thousand men could you do this. It is folly."
"Well, someone has do it," I mumbled, my father just glared at me.
Legolas jumped back up. "Have you heard nothing Lord Elrond has said? The ring must be destroyed!"
"And I suppose you think you're the one to do it?!" Gimli retorts.
Boromir stands back up. "What if we fail, what then? What happens when Sauron takes back what is his?"
"I'll be dead before I see the ring in the hands of an elf!" Gimli shouts. "Never trust an elf!"
The elves stand up for Legolas, the men for Boromir. Eventually everyone is up arguing, including Gandalf. Only Frodo, Aragorn, my father and I are still seated.
"Do you not understand that while we bicker amongst ourselves, Sauron's power grows!?" Gandalf shouts. "None can escape it! You'll all be destroyed!"
Frodo looks at the ring and stands up.
"I will take it!" Frodo says loudly.
No one can hear him. He looks at me for help.
I stood up, irritated. "Silence! Cease your arguments!"
Everyone turns to look at me. I look around as if nothing was wrong.
"I will take it, I will take the ring into Mordor," Frodo says again. "Though I do not know the way."
"I will help you bear this burden, Frodo Baggins, and as long it is yours to bear." Gandalf says, and walks over to Frodo and stands behind him.
Aragorn stands to speak to the halfling. "If by my life or death I can protect you, I will,"
Aragorn kneels before Frodo, and holds out his sword. "You have my sword."
Legolas walks over to Frodo, held out his bow and knelt. "You have my bow."
Gimli walked over to him. "And my axe,"
Now Boromir walked over to Frodo. "You carry the fate of us all little one, if this is indeed the will of the council, then Gondor will see it done."
'Well, I am not going to stay here, I am going to help!' I thought.
I stood up and bowed before Frodo. I held out my bow and my twin daggers.
"You have my bow, my daggers, and any other service you require."
"No, Linwë! You are not going!" I heard my father say.
"Yes, Ada I am!" I snapped. "There is nothing you can do to stop me!"
"Very well," father said in defeat.
Out of the bushes another hobbit runs out yelling. "Mr. Frodo's not going anywhere without me!"
"No indeed! It is hardly possible to separate you, when he is summoned to a secret council, and you are not, Samwise Gamgee."
Samwise goes to stand next to Frodo. Then all of a sudden two hobbits, one with a square face and golden brown hair, the other had a pointed face and brown hair.
"Wait! We're coming too!" The one with golden brown hair exclaimed.
They rush over and stand next to us.
"You would have to send us home tied up in a sack to stop us!" He said again.
"Anyways, you need people of intelligence on this mission......quest..thing!" The smaller one said.
"That rules you out, Pip!" His companion said.
At this we all stand up together around Frodo.
"Ten companions! So be it! You shall be the Fellowship of the Ring!" my father declares.
"Great! Where are we going? Pip asks.
I laugh and shake my head in amusement. 'This is going to be an interesting adventure!'
