Chapter 19
Linwë's POV
Legolas never told me exactly what had happened, how I was so close to death, then suddenly I was filled with Light again. What I believe to be true is this: I think Elves can pass their Light into other beings, if they care about them enough. I know Arwen did it once, with Frodo. Legolas never seemed to want to talk about what had happened, so I never pried, if he wanted to tell me he would, in good time.
Gandalf had decided to have us ride to Isengard. From what Théoden had said, Saruman had control of the city. We had been traveling since sunrise when we spotted the gates of Isengard. What we saw was somewhat a surprise: Merry and Pippin were sitting on the crumbled ruins of the wall, they had bread and wine set out before them. Joy swelled inside of me, I had thought they had been killed when the Riders of Rohan raided the orc camp. The two hobbits looked at us cheerfully, I exchanged an amused glance with Legolas.
"Welcome my Lords-" Merry started to call out.
"And Lady!" Pippin added glancing at me.
Merry huffed and shot a look at Pippin. "To Isengard!"
Gimli shook his head, grumbling. "A merry hunt you've led us on! And now we find you here feasting!"
Legolas chuckled softly and steered his horse closer to mine, once he was beside me I nudged him with my elbow. He leaned over and kissed my neck, he pulled away and smiled at me. I glanced at the hobbits and saw Merry smirking at me, I felt myself blush self-consciously.
I heard Pippin telling Gimli about all the food they found in Isengard, Gimli was especially interested in the salted pork.
Suddenly Merry said something aloud. "We're under orders from Treebeard, who's taken over management of Isengard,"
I frowned, Treebeard, where had I heard that name before...?
Gandalf led us farther into the city, we got to the base of the tower and then a tall, looming, tree-like figure stepped towards us.
"I'm guessing that would be Treebeard," Legolas whispered to me.
I nodded, but stared, transfixed, at Treebeard.
"I'm glad you have come, Young Master Gandalf," Treebeard grunted. "I can handle wood, water and stone, but there is a wizard who needs to be handled, locked in his tower,"
My gaze traveled up the tower, there stood Saruman at the very top, glaring down at us. Saruman and Gandalf argued, well Gandalf tried to persuade him to rethink his ways, but then Gimli said something to Legolas and he shot an arrow at the corrupt wizard, at the same time Grima stabbed him. Saruman fell off the tower and landed, impaled on spikes, slowly the wheel turned and he sunk into the water.
I saw someone moving in the corner of my eye. I glanced over, it was Pippin, he had picked up a small glowing sphere, Gandalf quickly grabbed it from him. Pippin stared at the sphere in wonder. I frowned at looked at Legolas.
"What is it?" I asked.
He shrugged. "I am not certain,"
-------
We had returned to Edoras later that night, Théoden was hosting a celebration. I stood near Legolas, I shifted uncomfortably. He glanced at me.
"Something the matter?" He asked softly.
I shook my head. "No, I just do not enjoy all the noise,"
He wrapped his arms around my waist, I leaned against his chest. Eomer set a cup of mead on the table in front of Gimli, he looked to Legolas.
"No pauses, no spills," Eomer started.
"And no regurgitation!" Gimli added, chugging down the mead.
"So...It's a drinking game?" I heard Legolas ask slowly.
"Aye!" Several people shouted.
I tilted my head, puzzled. We had no such contests in Rivendell, as a matter of fact, I didn't think any of the Elves did.
"Last one standing wins!" Gimli cheered, taking another drink.
I sighed and shook my head. Legolas removed his arms from around my waist, he moved to walk towards the table. I caught his arm.
"You're not actually going to participate in this competition, are you?" I asked of him.
He glanced at Gimli then nodded. I shook my head again. "And what type of liquor have you drank before? Your father's wine would be my guess,"
Legolas' face flushed slightly, I felt someone put a hand on my shoulder. I glanced to them, one of the Rohirrim.
"You wouldn't understand the games and sport of men, lassie, best you go and join Lady Èowyn over there," he said.
I looked at him, my eyes narrowing, I put a hand on the hilt of my dagger. Legolas turned me so I was facing him. "Linwë, you should probably leave,"
I wrenched away from his grasp and stormed towards the door, I went down the hallway until I found the room that Legolas and I were sharing.
A few hours later the door opened, I was sitting by the window, thinking. Legolas walked into the room, swaying slightly. I sighed. "What did I tell you,"
He looked at me confused. "I don't know, what did you tell me?"
I rolled my eyes and stood up. He took a step forward, but ended up lunging towards me by accident. I put a hand on his wrist. "Legolas, how much did you drink,"
He frowned, deep in thought. "I honestly don't remember,"
I sighed again and led him towards our bed, he laid down, but then looked at me expectantly.
I shook my head. "No, Legolas, not while your drunk,"
He started to protest but I smoothed back his hair and kissed his forehead. "Sleep, mellamin,"
After a few moments he closed his eyes, drifting off into a peaceful sleep. I sat on a chair beside him, I took his hand in mine and I looked at him. Eventually I gave in to the temptation and laid down beside him. I felt his arms wrap around me and soon I as well fell asleep.
