Chapter 18

The caves were hot and stuffy and all around me children and women were crying. Legolas wanted me to stay in the caves while the men fought at Helm's Deep. As if I haven't been trained in the art of war for half of my life.

I laughed bitterly to myself. I stood up and started pacing the floor, making some of the girls around me anxious.

They started whispering nervously, debating the outcome of the battle.
I turned, banging my fist into the wall, yelling in frustration.

They looked shocked. "I can't sit here while people are up there dying for your sake!"

I stormed out of the caves, finding a way back up to the city. I strung my bow and joined the archers on the wall.

A giant orc came running towards the center of the wall carrying a torch. Aragorn shouted at Legolas to shoot it.

He did so, failing in killing it. I shook my head and went to shoot, but the ground started shaking and suddenly the wall blew apart.
~~~~
I opened my eyes to orcs stampeding around me and elves and men falling, dead, to the ground. I groaned and sat up, I touched my hand to my head and I felt something sticky and warm. Blood.
There was nothing I could do at the moment though, so I shakily stood up and scanned the battlefield for Legolas.
I did see one elf though, who I wished, still to this day, had not fought in this battle. Haldir. I watched an orc cut him down and he was dead before he hit the ground.
A hollow feeling spread through me, then grief, then flashes of rage. I unsheathed my daggers and hurled myself towards his killer.
I made a short end of the orc and I slashed at any other who came towards me.
Then, one elf looked at me in horror and shouted something I couldn't hear, I felt a heavy blow to the back of my head and I saw no more.
Legolas POV
The battle was finally over, it was a close victory, for we lost many. I made my way down to the caves.
The women were rushing out, searching for their loved ones. However, the one I was looking for was not to be found.
I turned to one woman who was walking out. "Have you seen an elf maiden? Dark hair, tall. . ."
She frowns then her eyes widen in remembrance. "Oh, yes, she was with us at one point, then she..."
She had my full attention now. "She what? What happened?"
A feeling a dread coursed through. I was stupid, of course Linwë would've gone up to fight.
"She left to join the ranks, M'Lord," she shook her head. "I haven't seen her since."
I nodded and said my thanks, then I went to the battlefield.
I walked among the dead, searching, searching for her.
Then I saw her, she was laying there, her daggers at her sides, she wasn't moving.
I dropped to my knees besides her, despair welling up inside of me. "Linwë..."
I put my hand on her forehead, channeling my Light inside of her, in hopes she may still he alive.
Nothing, but then- a faint breath, a flicker of an eyelid, then, finally she awoke, my Linwë, came back to me.
