2 - EMPIRE STRIKES BACK
WARNING !
SPOILERS FOR STAR WARS
AND MY BOOK "HOPE"
─────
Teresa couldn't get what David said off her mind. Maybe Henry's too nervous to ask considering what happened last time. It was like playing the same song on the jukebox over and over again, something Henry has done a couple times just for her. Why hadn't Henry asked her out on their 'real first date' as Snow likes to put it. She knew that last time he tried setting up a romantic candlelight dinner with a movie on his cell phone in Camelot didn't turn out like he original thought, or how she thought for that matter, but why? Just why?
Did he think she would say no? Did he think she would burst into tears just like she did last time and run off? Was he scared to take another step forward in their relationship by asking her out to something other than Granny's Diner, the arcade and his house for movie night? If so, he honestly didn't know her as much as she thought because she would, of course, accept.
Heaving a heavy sigh, Teresa kicked a stone that was sitting on the sidewalk. It skipped, bouncing across the street and nearly hitting the tire of a car parked outside a house in Emma and Killian's neighborhood. She was sad and confused and infuriated all at once, and she wasn't sure if she could sit through another Star Wars film, which are incredibly long, with all these thoughts on her mind.
"Just man up and ask him, Teri," she whispers to herself.
A sudden noise and a low hiss coming from a set of large bushes causes her to pause. She swirls around, hand instantly ablaze with blue swirls of magic. Her fingers twitched, just waiting for the danger to jump out and make its self known to her.
The archer took a cautious step forward, her hand ready to throw a burst of ice cold magic that would stun them. "Who's there?" She calls.
She pauses again, listening intently to the noises. She even brushes her hair behind her ear with her free hand to hear better. She can hear the buzzing of bugs zipping around the nearest lamp pole and the chirping crickets singing in the night, even the sound of a distant car, but nothing from the bushes.
She takes another step forward, and this time the threat makes itself known. She stumbles back a step or two when a blur comes flying out of the greenery. She thrusts her hand forward, but misses, and lets out a laugh when she watches the cat run back home.
"A cat," she whispers to herself, shaking her head in disbelief. She had been ready to possibly kill a threat, yet it was a cat. She scoffs, turning and continuing on her previous path. Thanks to Hyde, every noise she hears even when hunting gets her in an uproar and puts her in a defensive mood.
Finally, she comes to a stop in front of the large blue house, and lets out another sigh before advancing forward.
She noticed Emma's yellow bug wasn't parked in the drive way, which could only mean she and Killian were out. Or something happened that forced Emma to stay down at the station. However, if it had been in regards of town trouble, surely David wouldn't have returned home to make them dinner. He would have been out helping Emma instead.
When she reached the door, she knocked thrice. The archer was silently cursing herself for not changing out of her work uniform, which consisted of shorts and a white t-shirt that had the Granny's Diner logo on it. Although she could adapt and live in colder temperatures far better than anyone else, she still wore her jacket. Plus Henry always worries that, despite her powers, she could still catch a cold and had to dress warm. The thought of him worrying causes a smile to tug onto her lips as she waits for the door to open.
It doesn't take long for Henry to pull open the door. When he sees her, he grins, then frowns when he sees her attire. "Teri, you must be freezing!" He exclaims, snatching her wrist and tugging her inside.
Teresa rolled her eyes as she glances down at her bare legs. "You worry too much."
"It's my job to worry about you," he replies as he takes off her jacket, which causes her to cock an eyebrow in his direction.
"So I'm a task now?" She asks.
Henry stammers for a moment, but when a smirk works its way onto her lips, he knows she was only teasing him. As always. He lets out a relieved laugh and tossed her jacket on the coat rack with the others.
Teresa smirks as she shuffles passed him and into the living room. On the coffee table is a variety of snacks, such as popcorn, M&M's and even her favourite soda. The buttery smell of the popcorn already was beginning to sing sweet songs to her as she made her over to the couch.
"So where's Emma?" She asks.
"She's out with Killian," Henry replies, "date night. You ready to start the movie?"
Nodding, Teresa watched as he pressed play on the remote to begin Empire Strikes Back. She pulled a blanket over her lap as the opening credits begin to roll across the screen with the sound of the instrumental music fueling it.
"Sorry I'm late, by the way," she apologizes, eyes soaking in each yellow word on the screen before her. "I got sidetracked. David made pasta for dinner."
Henry smirks. "You love that stuff too much."
"Can you blame me? The guy should be a chef, not a sheriff." She then hums a laugh. "I almost killed a cat as well on my way over."
Henry's eyes widened. "What? How?"
"In my defense, I didn't know it was a cat before I got in defense mode," she began. "There I was, walking along the sidewalk, minding my own business...when I heard shuffling in some bushes. I was expecting it to be Hyde or a surprise minion of his that we have all been expecting, so when a cat came bursting out I may or may not have blasted my magic towards it. Don't worry though, the archer, for once, missed her target. The cat is perfectly fine and is probably already at home."
Henry frowns, feeling immense guilt. Next movie night he wasn't going to allow her walk over alone. He thought that maybe tonight one of his grandparents would have driven her, but when he didn't hear a car and only her knocking, he was disappointed to find she had walked over. Alone and in the dark. He wish she hadn't, given that Hyde now owned the town, but his girlfriend was incredibly stubborn.
Teresa, noticing the frown weighing his face down, places a reassuring kiss on his lips which pulls him from his thoughts. "You worry too much about me, you know. I can handle myself."
"I never said you couldn't handle yourself," Henry replies, sighing after. "I just wish you...wouldn't always insist on going out alone."
"I didn't want to bother Snow. She isn't my shofar. Plus, she deserves to have a lovely evening with her son and husband without having to drive me over to my boyfriends house for movie night." Henry's heart flutters at the mention of 'boyfriend'. "I have magic that I rarely use, so I am perfectly capable of unleashing the bottled up energy on Hyde's ass."
Henry sighs and decides to not say anything. Instead, he reaches forward and grabs the bowl of popcorn and places it in his lap.
Later in the evening, Teresa ended up being curled up against his side on the couch in. Their sock-covered feet were propped up on the coffee table with a plaid blanket draped over their laps. His arm was wrapped around her, her head on his shoulder, and the pair were munching on the popcorn and sipping on sodas.
Teresa was enjoying the movie franchise Henry was currently having her watch. When first asked by Henry to watch it with him, she was hesitant. She wasn't sure if she would like a science fiction themed space movie, but it was more than just a space movie. She loved the action, but mainly the storyline.
Shmi Skywalker was by far her favourite character. Teresa thought she was a total badass. She was, however, confused about why Shmi has a red lightsaber when, according to all the Star Wars movies she's watched so far, red lightsabers represent you as a sinister force-wielder. A Sith of the Dark Side, as the franchise likes to call it.
Teresa had a inkling that Shmi and the resistance General, Cassian Andor, had a thing for each other too, but when asking Henry about it he wouldn't tell her, saying it would just spoil the movie if he gave things away. Teresa had rolled her eyes, of course.
Not only was Shmi her favourite character, but she also liked Shmi's father. Darth Vader may be the villain of the franchise, but she thought his story was tragic. All he wanted was to save his wife from dying at child birth. And because of his immense worry, the Chancellor Palpatine was able to easily corrupt his mind and poison him with persuading thoughts. Personally, Teresa wished that Anakin had sliced him down, but she understood why he had killed Mace Windu instead of Palpatine. Anakin Skywalker just loved his family too much.
Henry's favourite character was Luke Skywalker, the son of Darth Vader and younger brother of Shmi Skywalker. But Luke didn't know that his closest friend was also his sister, since Shmi goes by Shmi Kenboi to keep her identity a secret from their father. That was something that confused Teresa. If Shmi and Luke were both in hiding from their father, why couldn't they be in hiding together? That way, at least Shmi had one of her siblings who knew her true identity.
"Why you stuck up...half witted...scruffy looking nerf herder!" Exclaimed Priness Leia to Han Solo on the television in front of them.
Teresa raised an eyebrow at the characters choice of offensive words. Scruffy looking nerf herder? What does nerf herder even mean? She thought. Han Solo, Teresa noted, looked extremely offended by the princesses outburst, so she knew it was apparently quite offensive to say in their world.
"Who's scruffy looking?" Han replies while staring at the princess Teresa knew he was incredibly fond of. "I tell you, sweetheart, I must've hit pretty close to the mark to get you hoppin' like this. Doesn't it look that way to you Luke?"
Luke glances sheepishly over at the fuming Leia. "Yeah...it does...kind of."
"Oh it does, does it? Well, I guess you don't understand every thing about women, do you?"
Suddenly, Princess Leia was crossing the room, and she slammed her lips onto Luke Skywalker's. Teresa's eyes widened and she nearly choked on the popcorn that Henry had placed on his lap. She lifts her head from Henry's shoulder, only to look at him with wide icey blue eyes. "I thought you said that they were siblings?!" She exclaims.
Henry laughed. "They are."
"She just kissed him!"
"Neither of them know that they are siblings yet."
Teresa cringed. "Who made this movie? Why would they make siblings kiss like that? And look ─ !" Teresa points at the screen, where Luke Skywalker is now leaning back and crossing his arms behind his head in satisfaction from having been kissed, most likely for the first time too. "He enjoyed it!"
More laughter slipped from the Mills lips. "Yea, it is weird, I'll give you that. George Lucas, I guess, needed a love triangle. It wouldn't be a movie unless it had some sort drama involving love."
Again, she cringes. Love? "Oh god...please tell me that all they're going to do is just kiss that one time," she pleads, leaning her head back down against her boyfriends shoulder.
Henry smirks. "I guess you'll have to watch and find out."
Teresa shoots him a playful glare as she lifts her head up from his shoulder. "I hate you."
The door behind them opens, and Emma and Killian walk in. Emma is dressed in a nice pair of dark jeans and a maroon sweater, while as Killian is wearing some of his nicest black clothing, and in Emma's hands was a white takeout box.
Killian immediately smirks when he sees that Teresa and Henry are cuddling together on the couch during their movie. "Aww, look at that, Swan," the pirate grins. His teasing tone causes Teresa to sigh and roll her eyes. "They're cuddling. Adorable, isn't it?"
The teenagers both turn around to look at them, and Teresa throws an annoyed glare in the pirates direction. Why he always insisted on teasing them, she will never know.
"So we're sitting on a couch, big deal," Teresa says.
Emma chuckles and pats the pirate on his shoulder. "Come on, let's leave them to watch their movie. I'll just put the leftovers in the fridge and I'll meet you upstairs."
"Alright, love," Killian replies. When he leans in to kiss her, Teresa smirks.
"Aww, look at that, Mills!" Teresa says, mocking Killian's previously used tone. "They're kissing! Adorable, isn't it?"
Henry chuckles, as does Emma as she pulls back from kissing him. The blonde savior then made her way over to the refrigerator to place the container inside. Flashing the pirate one more smirk, Teresa turns back around to face the television. Luckily, Henry had paused the movie once the teasing had begun so Teresa didn't miss anything. He pressed play on the remote, continuing where they left off.
"No funny business!" Killian calls over his shoulder as he and Emma made their way upstairs. "We wouldn't want little archers and authors running around right now, would we?"
The teenagers' faces start to burn in embarrassment.
"Mom!" Henry exclaims in a pleading tone, his eyes widening.
Emma and Killian's light laughter disappear as they walk upstairs. After a moment, Teresa awkwardly clears her throat and turns back towards the television.
Henry let out a sigh and rubbed his face in embarrassment. "Sorry," he apologizes, face still flushed.
"It's fine," Teresa reassures him, before resting her head on his shoulder once more.
