The Moon

A silent, quiet, and serious atmosphere. The smell of books mixing in with the smell of the air conditioner along with the atmosphere was what made the library a great place to study and be productive.

The idea of being productive together was initiated by Terrence, who was most likely not able to study on his own, he was also luckily paired up with his girlfriend, Rina.

Seated along a long rectangular wooden table were Dalteon, Rina, and Terrence who were studying up for their recently assigned activity by their teacher. Rina had her nose into her books, her concentration never faltering. Terrence seemed disinterested, as he flipped the pages of his book in one hand and spun a pen around with the other. Dalteon on the other hand was trying his best to concentrate but failed to do so as he was still stuck on the same page he was in for the past 30 minutes.

Dalteon sighed in frustration, "I'm gonna go take a break." He said as he stood up from his heat and walked out of the library.

Dusk approached as the sunset, painting the sky with orange and gold. Dalteon approached a nearby vending machine and got himself a drink as he looked outside the golden grounds, students walking by to go home or to their respective clubs. To his surprise, he saw a figure who was about to leave too.

Luenniel walked down the hallway as he saw a figure standing right by the exit. He looked away, avoiding eye contact, and headed for the exit without looking back. To his surprise he stepped out into the open, the golden light shone on him as he looked away. He thought that Dalteon would stop him and talk to him. As he approached the gate, he finally looked back, perhaps expecting.

As Dalteon saw Luenniel step into the light outside he simply dropped it all. He had his hand raised and was about to chase him but his legs wouldn't move. He felt the fear of rejection all over again creep up to him in the form of cold sweat. He looked down on the ground and walked away too, without looking back.

Nightfall came as once again, the full moon rose as it illuminated what little it could in the dark sky. Luenniel couldn't say he was any similar to the moon. He felt more like he walked around a plane of darkness. Now he stood outside his home, he could certainly say that in this plane, he would call this place the void - the deepest and darkest place possible. His metaphor immediately justified, as he opened the door it just was like a horror movie as his hair got pulled in into the pitch-black darkness, and chaos ensued.

Dalteon, Rina and Terrence were on their way home, it was already late as the full moon had been hanging over them as they left the school. In the darkness and in each other's presence, Rina and Terrence held hands, while Dalteon simply walked ahead as he pretended not to see anything.

The noble guide, Dalteon had always characterized the moon as such. In such a dark space in the sky, it illuminated them. Of course, in reality, the moon simply reflects the sun's light to make it seem like it was illuminating itself. He wondered if the moon ever regretted being unable to have its own light.

Soon enough, the trio went on their separate ways. Dalton got home and immediately went to his room upstairs. He felt tired, perhaps because he studied very hard during the afternoon. Dalteon looked out of his window and up to the moon, thinking perhaps he just felt like the moon, regretting his decisions and actions.

Sitting beside his window, Luenniel looked up to the moon above him. He wondered if anyone was also looking at the same moon, and it was possible for anyone to be the moon in his darkness.

"Hey, " a voice called out in the dark, Luenniel's attention goes toward the house just across where the voice came from.

"Mike..." Luenniel flushed as he looked at the handsome person across, a neighbor who was far older than him.

"You look like you had a tough time," Mike said as he noted at Luenniel's messed hair, the small cut, and numerous scratches on his face. He felt bad all over again but decided to not show it to Luenniel so he wouldn't offend him.

"Niel, wanna sneak out and stay over the night here? I'll treat your awful face for you hehe." Luenniel snickered along with Mike, despite his mocking remarks.

Opening the window, Luenniel immediately jumped off as quiet as possible. He successfully landed on the ground, though his sore body mildly wincing at the impact.

Soon enough Luenniel arrived at Mike's doorstep. He quickly opened the door to see standing over waiting for him was a tall man in his late twenties, he had overgrown unkempt hair and his eyes were as dark as night.

"Yo, come in and take a seat,"  Mike said to Luenniel as he got into his neighbor's humble abode. He took a seat on the couch and was offered a beverage by his host.

Mike went to the kitchen in the other room, "Just hold on a sec, Niel." He came back, a first aid kit on his hand.

The sting as the antiseptic disinfectant made contact with his wounds made Luenniel wince, but Mike did his best to treat him gently. Soon his treatment was done, the cut by his left cheek was plastered with a band-aid, his scratches were disinfected and didn't hurt at all, and even his hair was properly combed. Mike puts down a warm plate of omurice in front of his.

"Mike... Really, thanks so much." Luenniel was on the verge of crying. He initially only looked at Mike because he was kinda hot but he felt ashamed to admit such a thing now. Mike was actually a widowed man. He had lost both his wife and child in an accident and decided to move back to a whole new place to start over. Despite this, every time Luenniel had a hard time, he had his hand held out for him.

Luenniel gratefully ate his omurice, "Feel free to wash up after, I already readied extra clothes and your uniform. Also, here are your pillows and blanket. I gotta turn in, so good night." Mike said, turning over the things he mentioned before he went into his room.

After eating his dinner, Luenniel washed up, brushed his teeth, and got changed. He wore some oversized pajamas, but they were too big and his pants kept falling so he just didn't wear them at all. He lay on the couch, as he put over a blanket on himself, set his head on the armrest, and hugged his pillow. He felt so warm and comfortable that he drifted easily into sleep.

In the middle of the night, Mike opened the door in his room as he looked over if Luenniel was asleep. He looked over at his young guest who was happily drooling on his pillow, his peaceful and almost cute goofy face, and his pale blonde hair had its dark black roots start to grow back in. He tucked him in his blanket to make sure it covered his whole body and went back to his room to sleep.
