Chapter 14
"Vote for training, kill, or leave." One said to Griz's left.
"Kill the unholy abomination."
"Train her, she'll be useful."
"Kill!"
"Train!"
She turned to her previous mentor, "Do you get a vote?"
"I don't know. But if I did, I'd vote train or leave, depending on what you want."
"I want you to train me."
"I can't."
Griz turned her attention back to the twelve who were residing her fate. They were having a large argument, leaving her be was out of the question, they would either kill her, or train her.
"You will deside as well, then there's an odd number of us."
"But it'll vote not kill!"
"Thank you." Her past mentor said. They argued long into the night, Griz sat down as she waited, neither side wanted the other. They will cast their votes at dawn.
Orange streaked the clouds above them, it was a beautiful sunrise, the thirteen went silent, Griz stood.
"We will cast the votes!" One said, the one Griz thought that was the leader. The thirteen went to their original places as the leader went around, listening to each vote. The leader came to the one next to Griz last, who whispered quietly, "Train."
The leader went back to its spot. "The votes have been cast! For leaving the hybrid be, none. For killing the hybrid. Six. For training the hybrid. Six. It's currently a draw."
Griz looked at her mentor, "What? There's thirteen of you."
"The eldest has an extra hour to deside on their vote."
"Oh. Okay. What happens if they can't deside, and it remains a draw?"
"They will leave the matter for a week."
"And if they still can't deside."
"It's never gotten that far for a long time. Each side will choose a champion to fight the other side's champion, whichever champion wins, their side wins the vote."
"If it comes to that, which side do you think will win?"
"The other side have quite a few bloodthirsty fighters, our side has the more intelligent ones and calmer fighters, it will be quite even, if the sides remain how they are."
"Okay, I guess we wait." Griz said, sitting back down.
"We do."
An hour later, the eldest stood up from where it had been sitting on a rock, and Griz stood once more. "I have... not made my decision. Both sides have advantages and disadvantages.
"The next vote will be held at nightfall, this is a matter that cannot be delayed for any longer."
Murmurs broke out on both sides. Neither side were happy by the outcome. "I'm going to go and get some sleep." Griz murmured. Her mentor nodded and walked over to the argument and started making its point. They're like a bunch of children, always arguing. Griz thought as she tried to find somewhere to sleep, she looked around and started walking towards a tree, she shifted to become a Fox before curling up and entered the world of sleep.
