Entrance Exam Orientation

Walking into the large auditorium, I glance down at the card in my hand. I had been given the exam ticket before making my way listen to the orientation. The ticket had my basic information on it, but it also had my examinee number and the location of the test. Number 2234 and Battle Center B.

'I wonder how many battle centers they have?' I mused, looking back up and into the auditorium. There was twelve rows to each of the three columns. In other words, there was a lot of UA examinees here.

"Let me have a look at you card, kid." A lady asked me, drawing my gaze away from the partially full room.

"Here." Handing over my ticket, I tried to see if the lady before me was a hero or not. She didn't look like anyone that I knew. Then again, she was in everyday clothes.

"Okay, middle column, three rows down from the top. The tenth seat from the right, next to the boy with the spiky blonde hair." The lady smiled.

"Thank you." I replied, before regretfully joining Kacchan. I try not to fiddle with my ticket while waiting for the orientation to start. Its not like Bakugo could do anything to me, but I just really didn't want him to make a scene. The stage lights flickering on drew my attention and hushed everyone else. An image of the UA logo flashed onto the large screen and glinted. It was followed by a voice.

"What's up, UA candidates? Thanks for tuning into me, your school DJ. Come on and let me hear ya?!" Present Mic exclaimed, holding a hand up to his ear. He wasn't met with as much excitement as he had put into his words, "Keepin' it millow, huh? That's fine. I'll get start to the main show. Let's talk about how this practical exam is going to go down. Okay? Are you ready?!"

Again, he was met with more silence. He did host a radio show, so asking a question and being met with silence was nothing new I guess. That and his bubbly personality was sort of too much sometimes.

"I knew that the school had pro heroes as the teachers, but I honestly wasn't expecting it to be Present Mic to lead our orientation today." I gushed.

"Shut up." Bakugo grumbled beside me. Crap, I said that out loud. Muttering or speaking out loud was still something that I was trying to workout of my system. It won't really help me much in the long run and would simply annoy anyone that I might end up working with. Present Mic went on to explain about how we would be performing ten minute mock battles in one of seven different battle centers. Though, everyone already knew that from our applications.

"Sound good?" Present Mic asked. Glancing down at my card, I looked over at Kacchan's. He too was looking at his card.

"I see," Kacchan noted, looking over at my card, "Their splitting us up so we can't work with our friends."

"Yeah, you're right. Our examinee numbers are one after the other, but we are assigned to different battle centers." I stated.

"Don't look. I'll kill you." Bakugo growled.

"Sorry." I exclaimed and looked away. 'Our conversation was perfectly civil, but you just had to go and get egotistical?' I thought.

"Damn," Kaccahn grumbled, "I was looking forward to crushing you."

'Same.'

Turning my attention back to the UA teacher on stage. I frowned up at the board. Glancing back down at the information brochure, I couldn't help but notice that there was four faux villains in front of me, but only three of the board. Did they use old brochures from last year? Or did someone forget to add the forth to the slide?

"Excuse me sir, but I have a question?" A boy three rows down asked, standing up, right arm raised.

"Hit me!" Present Mic replied, pointing to the student. A second later and a spot light came on, highlighting the student.

"On the print out, you have listed that there are four types of villains. Not three. Will all respect, if this is an error on official UA materials, it is shameful. We are exemplary students, we expect the best from Japan's most notable school. A mistake such as this won't do. Additional, you with the unkempt hair."" The student exclaimed, turning to point a figure in my direction.

"Me?" I mutter quietly, confused as to why I had earn this student's annoyance.

"You have been muttering this entire time. Stop that. If you can't be bothered to take this seriously, then leave. Your distracting the rest of us." The boy snapped. I really do need to work on the muttering. I hang my head and placed a hand over my mouth. My cheeks felt warm and I couldn't help but feel embarrassed. I was a little annoyed with the kid three rows down, but at least he had asked a decent question before calling me out.

"Sorry." I muttered. I could hear giggles coming from some of the students and I wished desperately to disappear.

"Alright, alright," Present Mic said, waving his hands up and down, to quieten the giggles, "Examinee number 7111. Thanks for calling in with your request. The fourth villain type is worth zero points. That guy is just an obstacle we'll be throwing in your way. There is one in every battle center. Think of it as a hurdle you should try to avoid. It's not that it can't be beaten, but there's kind of no point. I recommend that my listeners try to ignore it and focus on the ones top of the chart."

"Thank you very much. Please continue." The student bowed before retaking his seat. The spotlight turning off shortly after. Judging from how the student spoke, held himself and his whole appearance, I could only guess that he was from a private school. Which school, I couldn't quite tell. I hadn't been able to see his school's crest on his uniform. Then again, I wasn't really looking. What with being called out in front of the whole auditorium and all. I could vaguely hear a couple boys off to the left talking about how the whole thing was like a video game. Honestly, they had a point, but this is real life not a video game.

"That's all I got for you today. I'll sign off with a little present. A sample of our school motto. As General Napoleon Bonaparte once laid down, 'A true hero is one who overcomes life's misfortunes'. Hmhm. Now that's a tasty salivate*. You ready to go beyond?" Mic asked. I knew I was ready to go beyond to reach my goal. If I wasn't, I won't be here.

"Lets hear a Plus Ultra!" Present Mic exclaimed. "Good luck! I hope you practiced more then just books."

With that, orientation was over and a steady stream of students left the auditorium. Several students snickered at me as they strolled past, but I didn't pay them no mind. After all, Kacchan has done worse to me then just poke fun of or laugh at my expense. The butterflies in my stomach were going nuts and my heart pound against my rib cage, waiting release. I was ready and so pumped to get started.

Everyone exited through the front doors of UA and into the courtyard, where we were all divided into our respective Battle Center groups. After everyone had been divided into their groups, all seven groups were lead to a parking spot and we all filled into buses. All the groups had their own buses to fill. When everyone was on the buses, the buses drove us to the Battle Centers behind the main campus.

Even from a distance, the centers were huge. I was honestly taken aback by the enormity of each center. How much it would have cost to build each one would have had to be an insane amount. It made me wonder how often they would have to fix and clean each center whenever students used them. There would be no way that UA would only use the centers for just the entrance exams. Right? That would be such a waste of time, space and money.

Pulling up out front of Battle Center B, we all disembarked. Standing in front of the center made me feel really really small. The fact that I was here, about to take the entrance exam to one of the most prestigious schools, was starting to feel like a day dream. It wasn't a day dream and it was really happening. Ten months of hard, intense and grueling training was about to be tested and it made my heart rage. I was so pumped.

'I am going to ace this, get into UA and be one step closer to my dream!' I thought and couldn't help the smile on my face.

* What is Present Mic actually saying and how do you write it? I was listening to it whilst writing this chapter, but I couldn't quite make out what he was saying.

Thank you for reading!
